- The FINAL stretch! I didn't intend on all of these shenanigans happening last minute. That's just what happens sometimes. We fought the clock and struggled to get it back together.

The challenges are RELENTLESS with this little car!!! How am I ever going to make this trip?
Dean, I literally haven't stopped laughing through this video! Love it! Well done for smashing those jobs out!
This one was a bit of a bear but well worth the trouble! Made great content!
@@DeanofMachines definitely worth the trouble I look forward to the road trip video
@@SimpsonsClassics rough edit is done, just working on the polishing now ;)
Nice vice you have! Big thanks to Mike! Congrets with your new pets! But What a succes! You made it to the trip 🎉! Big respect 🫡!! Looking forward too the trip! And like allways big 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 🆙
Someday I’d like to afford an actual vice. For now, wrenchs and the closest flatish surface will have to do
I totally loved every minute of this video( especially the squirrels) that old Volvo is rad cool
@@loveyou211ful 🙏 thank you!! This is one of my favorite little cars. 100%
Very entertaining to watch. Admire your perseverance!
Thanks for checking it out!!
13:22 That's a 6-bolt flywheel which means it the same on the B18's and early(!) B20, in 1973 they actually introduced a new 8-bolt crankshaft/flywheel for the B20 engine, and those same crankshafts and flywheels were then later used in the B21 engine. And there's actually an old trick when getting some more horsepower out of the later B20's because those first connecting-rods used for the 8-bolt crankshaft/flywheel were really weak, so people would get the later M-connecting rods out the mid-to-late B21 engines because they fit right onto the crankshaft used in late-production B20's. Great video btw!
Thats a lot of great info!
I knew there had to be some serious hidden rust issues on this car. Real shame putting in all the work just to see the car disintegrating in front of you. But the patina on it is so fucking good each time I see it I get jealous. Perhaps a complete strip down and rust treatment and some welding in the long distant future?
Luckily the car doesn't need a whole lot of stripping down. I think I can get a lot of rust repairs done without taking the car completely out of service. Fingers crossed anyway
Really neat with the rear main seal! A lot easier than on my Amazon, and a modern neoprene rubber seal available too. I have to drop the crank as it is a two piece felt seal (along with some wood sticks, no joke) that seal it up. No rubber seal available as far as I know for a B16. Glad you managed to work through all the other issues as well. Hopefully you felt it was worth all the long hours. Looking forward to seeing how the trip went.
Some day Ill find myself a b16 powered car but for now I’ll stick with the easy to fix b18/b20 platform.
Was totally worth the headache :)
A remarkably enjoyable video and your brilliant work was a pleasure to watch !
Thank you David! Hope you got a laugh or two.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEO! I ADMIRE YOUR PERSEVERANCE!
Thank you Lisa! Its amazing what is possible when hanging out in the woods with your friends is on the line. :)
I had one of those when I was going to school many years ago (early 70's). Mine had a B18-D engine if I remember correctly with dual SU carbs. My interior was tan colored. That is about all I can remember except for the long shifter and scrolling speedometer.
I think the tan color interior looks great in these. Probably the best car ever built
I'm falling in love with these little cars. I have to get me one
I drive it every chance I get now. Its the perfect little run around car!
They are lovely cars.
One of the best ever!
Thanks for making videos dude
Absolutely my pleasure! It’s an interesting hobby at this point.
This is very cool, road trip should be a good time!!
It absolutely was a blast!!!
Epic video. I can’t wait for the next one!
The anticipation is real at this point. I was trying to fit the story together but not give a 2 hour video lol
Last time that happened to me, in 1990, the part was still available from Volvo, and they had actually upgraded it to thicker steel with a gusset.
Seems like it might be an old design issue.
Excellent floor repair! 👌🤌👍😂
Only the highest quality license plates used!
So that is why my 121 had an universal spring loaded brake light switch on the brake pedal! 😂
If it works its not dumb!!
It's *_really_* easy to get basically every kind of Amazon part you could every need here in Sweden, but i can definitely imagine that it's quite a lot harder to find over in the States 😮
I’m very fortunate to have a circle of friends that have been into Volvos for decades. I was able to source a b21 block for free and also have a b230ft block for another build. The best part about Volvo is their Lego like build quality!
Thx for the seal trick I'm actually rebuilding a 122 with my dad and this will be useful
Awesome! I hope it helps you out!
Spoiler alert: It was great seeing you at Mountain Meet! PS: Mike saved my bacon too when my old hoopty Volvo decided to reject the valve cover gasket.
Good ole pushrod daddy saving the day again. It was great seeing you!
Do you ever get the feeling the only luck you have might be bad luck? Good luck. It’s really a beautiful car.
I was fortunate to find such a car in the first place! Really though, some of these problems are on the ridiculous side.
10 for effort, 10 for ingenuity, 10 for technical commentary and humour.
But the squirrels only get 7 for not focusing on the task ahead and craving head scratch in flowerpot, something very much frowned upon as we all know.
Good help is hard to find these days.
What happened to the squierrels? :O
@@indrek8366 sadly, we had to put them out in a box. They were gone when I came home
I love this car. I wanna get a Amazon too. But first I need to buy a property with a garage... 😅
I highly recommend an Amazon! If a full on garage isnt possible then look into one of the temporary shelters for 300-500 bucks, good enough for a couple years!
What are the rims on it?
They are Mercury Grand Marquis wheels. Late 90s American grandpa car.
Good.job. Nice car Good volvo
Best Volvo. Everyday.
Man...I hope you video your whole trip...
I figured itd be best to just film the prep and leave the rest to imagination :)
(Trip is done and over, filmed, rough edit completed yesterday) stay tuned:)
Sorry. I probably ended up with your guide when I did my Transmission last year. Someone sold me a guide out of a cover. Could be?
Maybe! Its not out of the realm of possibility.
I heard animals do not like mint, and it could be put around trash as repellant. Why not get a gallon of Ospho from the house paint store and brush it onto that rust.
There are options. I have not tried Oshpro though. You have piqued my curiosity. Thanks for stopping by the channel!!
Dude, I was joking about the tank and clutch!!
Things got worse real quick.
Looks like a silicone seal, not a silicon seal
It’s actually sillycorn. Grown by clowns in the midwest.
I must say i love the look of that car make s me wont to sell my r50 mini but then id have to much money
I say it all the time, of all my cars this car is my favorite to look at. Its just perfect.
Poor Dean, the joys of classic car ownership huh 😂😂😂
It goes round and round lol
О таком автомобиле можно только мечтать❤❤❤
I am very thankful that its not a dream for me!
❤
🐿️❤
En gamal amazon, me lister o krom 🎵🇸🇪
Take the relectors off
The off the rear?
@@DeanofMachines Yes, they were an afterthought to the original design. I had a 66 four door and it looked good without the reflectors :-)
@@davebancroft I’ll consider it
