i wonder: if large units were weak to spearmen and were easier to hit, was there a boon for being small, some reduced chance to get hit? or was being small just making your units lose combat power fast when taking damage
@@Pilvenuga spawnkin transformation means more models and I believe 20% damage .. this means they lose models/dmg more often but in smaller amounts cause there’s more of them… as for small targets I can’t speak for spawnkin but I have been using T3 fairies which have ‘tiny target’ making them 20% harder to hit from ranged physical and magic attacks … so I’d say we’ll see this feature with some units yeah if that answers your question :)

I've been playing this game and I can confirm that this game is really quite excellent. Wholly endorse Potato switching content wholly to AoW4 until Civ 7 comes out.
It's the combination of game knowledge, mechanics expertise and both hilarious narration and teaching excellence that make this series just so addictive to watch! Bravo, Potato! You have made watching you play AoW4 just as addicting as it is to play the game.
I loved how you explained your thought process behind reloading! It's something I feel very similarly about, but you expressed it very succinctly.

Man, in Age of Wonders games there is ALWAYS some combination of effects that you overlook and has some surprising effect that you have to learn (or relearn) when you come across it. There are *so* many interactions.
mana addicted has been really fun to watch both in the high peaks and the low plummets with extremely mana usage or spelljammers,
I wonder how effectively you could pair it with wightkin? to nullify the morale loss and get passive life steal to preserve mana at least a bit

I really enjoyed the part where Potato was talking about why he allows save scumming during teaching moments. I thought it was an interesting perspective and a completely valid one, and I appreciate that he acknowledged and respected the other perspective. I also thought it was really wholesome when he talked about how he applies that idea to his relationships as well.

autobattle lost you inferno dogs, gremlins, arcanists, some polearm damage, and unknown amount of mana (you need to accept the outcome to see that, which is weird).

manual combat lost you inferno dogs, warlock, spellshields, 100 mana, and a lot of damage to surviving units, so A LOT MORE expensive outcome.
My personal biggest gripe with AoW has been the fact that by the time you get the awesome units the combat gets very tedious to the point that you auto resolve almost everything.
Hey not sure if you figured it out yet, but In custom games you can increase game speed that affects the research speed and stuff like that! To me it feels like it helps
After being able to play this game I will say Mystic culture seems quite a bit over-tuned. At least compared to Dark culture the difference is quite significant. I'd love to see you play a Dark/Necro build just to see if you can make it as powerful as this mystic army.

When people do things that cause me pain in relationships or just in life - the way I think of it is this - first time is an incident, second time is a mistake - third is either deliberate disregard or a habit - I need you to change that habit for me or I'm going to take steps to make sure that habit doesn't do more damage to me.
In general - I've been really fortunate in relationships and I'm very happily married - but it can be very hard to be in a relationship with someone who puts a lot of pressure on our personal boundaries - for example: Blaming me for your own bad mood, or accusing me of not listening when you did not check to see if I was able to give you my full attention at that time, or not giving me time to reflect on a disagreement before you demand a conversation where I 'explain myself' when I am trying to process and manage my own turbulent inner world.
In general, be gentle with yourself and those you care about. We're all hurt sometimes, but its what we do with it that is most important.

New to the channel, loving the content. Thanks for such an interesting blend of teaching, strategy, with a little humor in there as well! Enjoying the progression in the tactical battles from the early game, to mid game, to late game. Curious if you have any idea what a 'typical' game takes to play. I love 4x games, and have slowly moved away from them as I don't tend to like the 40 hour slog that some of them can be. This game seems like a nice length, maybe 5-10 hours to finish a campaign.

i need MOAR, shoot it into my veins. Not able to get the game myself atm (it just launched on steam as of today i think) but i would LOVE to see like, a full on druid faction build based around massive summons and healing.
The learning moment graph reminded me of that guy explaining himself meme, where it goes at 5x speed.
I'm loving this AoW4 detour the channel is taking, but I usually do not engage much with the community here, so I'm not sure if people are getting mad. If you're worried about it, why don't you make a poll and see how many people would actually like to see more AoW4 content for a while? Personally, I'm sold. Really loving it.

I was totally avoiding supergrowth thinking it was going to reduce the number of units you could field rather than the number of creatures inside the unit.

I'm a 4:2 army composition man of 4 main damage dealers and 2 supports. With heroes being either or. In my current game I'm running as the Kingdom of Lordearon so I'm aiming to have 4 knight units with two support units. Of course this can vary with 3 knights and a combat hero, or one support unit and a caster hero. With various stacks of whatever I pick up supporting them or to be a reserve in case of losses.
I am here for the addiction for Age of Wonders 4. Am Excited for the coming gameplay
Mistakes in new games are lessons where you learn the game. Mistakes in games you know well are carelessness and are not the same.
Totally cool you reload like that now here. After you know the game well enough it would be a different story but even then commentating while playing is much harder than just playing.

30:09 That's my biggest pet peeve with the game, the way reinforcement works. The way it should work is that the game should suck in every participant in a 3-hex radius, and simply allow the combatants to select the stacks which should be joining the fight (up to 2 additional, which is the limit anyway). This way it's much more strategic and no longer a guessing game, because of course the opponent will always pick the strongest combination. But instead of this, we get some sort of weird random shit, it is incredible what I've been able to cheese from the game, and what kinds of turn-wasting actions I've seen similar to this one.
edit: Specifically this split happens because the city area happens to be a separate zone (there are also wonders which are single hero stacks, but maybe more)

The most diff thing for me after 10 hours of playing AoW4 is to decide when and where to place a new outpost. Could you please make a tutorial on this topic?
Ya like I have no idea what optimal spacing is. Or whether or not you should settle on resources. Or even how to pace actually settling them. Just been replaying the early game over and over again until I can figure it out lol.

There's a 1 time city cap upgrade in the materium tree isn't there? If so, you should grab that if available instead of the 2nd rank of the imperium city expansion.
