29:30 opponent time wipes bouncing their own zombie token preventing liliana from drawing a card XD Never thought about bouncing my own prison realm as Teferi and then casting a sweeper. I guess that's why prison realm is in the deck.
Not to mention them not using Castle Vantress on upkeep, as well as not bouncing their own fires to possibly let themselves cast a few more spells. Some major misplays.
My brother and I literally crafted a red/white deck with Divine Visitation as the main win condition last week, and I thought to myself, "I wonder what LVD's take on this deck would be." What a Christmas miracle. Ours wasn't a fires deck, but rather focused on insane token production via Krenko and some pump spells, but still had Outlaw's Merriment. This deck is (predictably) better, though I have been having more luck with a Selesnya Divine Visitation deck than I did with our Boros version.
Yeah I tried many different Visitation builds before settling on this one. The main takeaway is that Visitation is such a strong endgame, that it's better to spend the early turns interacting and sculpting our hand, as opposed to overloading on threats like Krenko and Warboss, that are all pretty fragile.
@@LegenVD That was my takeaway, too, which is why I moved on to a green white version that could ramp into it better and had more early blockers like lovestruck beast, as well as more flexible win conditions like March of the Multitudes and Trostani Discordant
Thank you for your content! I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and learning new things about this game. I got this game a couple of months back and your channel helps me a lot! Thanks!
i made a similar sort of deck, but didn't have divine visitation. maybe i should consider that. one thing you could also consider in a deck like this is charming prince (likely instead of thrill). he's a good speed bump for aggressive decks and still helps you get what you need with the scry. he also can give you life if you need it, or even flicker your cavalier to let you pitch lands and draw more later.
Taking cards out of the sideboard is a totally fair and balanced mechanic that we are sure to see more in the near future, I guess they took inspiration from the wish cards and wondered if they could be made even more broken.
I was trying play a Boros deck with Outlaws' Merriment and Angel of Grace and the deck was actually doing reasonably well, but i decided to try a more control-ish version of the deck (the other was more aggressive) and i build this same deck you did, except i'm using 27 lands, 3 Deafening Clarion and 4 Realm-Cloaked Giant (and no Dawn of Hope and Thrill) and the deck is working really well. Right now my winrate with it 67% (30+ games) and i went all the way from silver to platinum (silver is easy anyway). I noticed that i do have a good match ups against aggro decks, a fair match up against most control decks and a terrible match up against Simic flash or any other counter spell heavy deck (which is normal for a Fires deck). So i would say the deck is legit. Not tier 1, but able to climb with it. I would like try it in a Bo3, but i'm not if it will work that there cause there are less aggro decks in Bo3 and also i'm really unsure about the sideboard cards.
Glad to hear! I had Realm-Cloaked in the deck for a while too, but he eventually got cut. Dawn of Hope is the first card I would remove to make room for something else. Your matchup assessment is also on point.
34:36 : I think you shouldve played the land here. You could either get two activations of the castles or gamble on finding a draw spell, and the safer options was the double-activate I think, especially in hindsight... just a thought tho?
@@mantra1229 was thinking about that as well, but the Castle requires 2 white for the activation, meaning double activation was only a possiblity with the Mountain being a Plains instead, so it never was an option.
@@Handygamer he drew lands for about 3 turns, the opponent would know that he has lands because anything else playable would be used, might as well throw the lands down, there was a period where he could have played a land for 2 turns, which would have granted an extra angel and lethal when the opponent was on 3hp. If he had played the lands he would have been able to trigger both castles
Didn't have enough white mana for a double activation and we always want to keep something for a looting effect (we can probably kill Narset with damage from Merriment at some point).
As soon as Throne of eldraine came out I tried to make a nonhuman (grumgully) multicoloured (rienne, angel of rebirth) fires deck. Actually sorta worked, despite the jank, especially with wildborn preserver as a mana sink. I think more mana sink centric fires decks will be great as a result of the new theros gods.
Match 3 when you mentioned that you amazed that you not dead yet. Couldn't agree more. His deck's power level is way way higher then fires with divinations. Super surprised.
In the Jeskai match there were a few opportunities to get to 10 mana to play double tokens, it would've been lethal if you did it before they cast Casualties of War.
Any reason to play Solar Blaze over 2 more Clarions? Solar Blaze lines up poorly with our creatures, and Clarion is great with angels, since it lets them survive and lifelink for a bunch of extra life. Clarion also answers early game threats more reliably, and this deck seems to have incredibly powerful late game, if it can get there. *To deal with Regisaur and Questing Beast I think Giant Killer is a much better choice than Solar Blaze. Can also use Response/Resurgence, it doesn't answer Regisaur, and doesn't work very well with Fires, but it can be used for 5 mana to win the game on the spot.
I play Rakdos Knights and fires decks have a very difficult time dealing with Regisaur and Spawn of Mayhem before they’re dead because Clarion does nothing to a turn 3 7/6 or 4/4
Your creatures are replaceable to the point they are rarely a consideration. Consider the cards as a factor in gaining a winning board state, Solar Blaze clears the way/removes multiple threats, Giant Killer slows down the game at a point you want to start establishing yourself as a threat, two spells with fires of invention to deal with a single situational threat and tap their creatures when you want to make your own tokens.
Every extra turn we give them we're much less likely to win. We don't know beforehand whether we'll get two damage dealing tokens, but I think our best bet at that point was getting lucky, killing Sarkhan and then drawing Cavalier. Killing Narset to maybe get an extra turn would probably decrease our outs at that point. It's playing to win versus playing not to lose.
@@LegenVD (sorry for commenting 6 days later) the other outlaw's merriment activation is on the stack already, so you can actually just check which one you're getting by right clicking the icon on the stack and reading it. When the ability is on the stack the decision has already been made.
@@MackJCM Thanks for the heads up, wasn't aware. "As you put the triggered ability of Outlaws’ Merriment on the stack, you choose a mode at random. Players can respond to the ability knowing which token will be created."
Why didn't you play a land around 24:00? I get why you held land when you could have had 2 angel activations. Holding 1 I get, but 2? Heck, could have even played the plains to make it game? Wouldn't that have been game?
he needed to have played a land the turn before and the second land before having enough to tap and pay for both castles, and he really wanted that cavalier XD
Real Black Lion When you amass, it specifies that you are to put a +1/+1 counter on an Army creature you control, and you only create a token first if you don’t already have an Army creature. You don’t get to put the counter on the Angel because it isn’t an Army. If the card said “create an Army creature token and put a +1/+1 counter on that token,” then I believe the Angel would get the counter.
Every extra turn we give them we're much less likely to win. i think you definitely attacked when you had the chance, you get 3 tokens a turn so they are all expendable, also I think you just got unlucky that game. your opponent drew perfectly while you couldnt draw or scry into any action for turns on end, and not because of a lack of action in the deck
They did get to Scry a lot with Castle, so it's not too surprising. Part of the reason not to attack is that if I force them to use a boardwipe it takes up half their turn and we slow down their development too.
@@LegenVD forgot about the scrying he was doing evey turn from the vantress. and I shouldn't doubt your decision making as it has been pretty rock solid throughout the videos I've watched. Fires is such a dumb anti fun card. Same with the 7 drop that steals permanents. Those are the only 2 cards I've seen since I started that just kills games unreasonably. You either play something equally broken, or you get lucky, or there simply is no game to speak of.
