In the late 60's/early 70's my buddies and I would walk from Black Point Rd around the beach and descend the lava stairs to go out surfing. We could see the pillars above us and one morning there was Jimi Hendrix waving at us and saying' "hey sisters" as we paddled out.....we were teenagers....what a beautiful life we had there.
I've seen a # of videos/photos of Shangri-La, but this one is by far the best of the lot! ❤ Doris worked on this masterpiece right up to the time of her passing. It's in the most gorgeous setting...Hawaii! Absolutely breathtaking w music that accompanies, adding to it! Thank you. You really did great justice to Ms. Duke's efforts! ❤

Late afternoon swims at Doris Dukes. Playing in the pipe with waves rolling in and over the break walls. Snorkeling beyond the breakers and, over to Kaikos then to home.
Thank you for sharing your lovely collection. I visited Ms Duke's Kahala Estate shortly after it was opened to the public through Honolulu Academy of Art. It was then and remains one of my favorite places to feel relaxed. Although there were many others there at the time I really got a sense of peace and solitude, except when I wanted to take a picture sans humans. Thankfully I was able to get a few nice photos. I'm curious as to how you were able to be there without the crowds and to attend the NYC exhibition. Do you work for the estate or a major art org perhaps?

Oddly enough, the Doris Duke Foundation , created by her to preserve her legacy , did not honor her wishes . As beautiful as this home is , her favorite was where she grew up and she wanted the gardens to be preserved for the public to use and enjoy . She also wanted the mansion preserved . There is a video that shows original footage of the beautiful gardens and grounds . I was stunned to find out the Doris Duke Foundation deliberately removed the gardens . I swear someone said the Mansion , too ,has been demolished even though Doris worked diligently on its upkeep. There is a video called Doris Duke birthday party at Duke Island . There you will hear people talk about the Doris Duke Foundation doing the exact opposite of what they were supposed to do and how they did not honor this generous lady's wishes . Instead of trustees , they were untrustees .
