Toddled over from The Progress Bar. Absolutely loved your detailed review of the rums, and now Ten to One is on our Christmas list! Tip to level up your orgeat- use almond milk concentrate! We use 3 tablespoon scoops (it doesn't come off the spoon well, and I'm not breaking out the scale for this, so not sure how much is really going in), a cup of water and 2 cups of sugar, then the rose/orange water per batch. It takes no time for a great result.
Whenever anyone asks what my favorite drink is, I have trouble deciding, but I usually say mai tai! So needless to say, when I saw this video, I instantly clicked. I wasn't concerned about the Ten to One. I was actually the most excited about that one! I need to find some of that. I default to the Denizen when I don't feel like thinking. Either that or just a blend of Appleton Signature and Clement.
Arminder from Rum Revival and Derek from Make and Drink did a blind tasting of Overproof Rums and the Worthy Park 109 did really well. Enough for me to go through the process to try and find it locally. I've been using Rum Fire for floats lately so I'm interested in how the WP holds up myself.
It's *still* really good; take that bacardi. Did Auntie Susan sample any of these? Slightly fancier, slightly more fun could be one of the mottos of this channel. And this was both entertaining and informative.
Sadly, Denizen Merchant's Reserve does not have a *minimum* age statement. The new label says "Aged Up to 8 years" with the "up to" part in smaller font. The previous label said "Pot Still 8 Oak Aged", which is also not legally an age statement, but at other points in time it did say "Aged 8 Years", so who knows. My guess is now there's some 8 year Jamaican rum in the blend, and the Grand Arome component is completely unaged (which is more common).
Thanks for another great comparison video! BTW the Denizen's contains rums "Aged up to 8 years" rather than rums aged "at least 8 years". Tricky little fine print on the label there. 🤥
WOW, that's all it takes to make Orgeat? Also, curious Mai Tai question - I am a huge fan of OFTD, what white rum would pair well to give the right amount of brightness to compliment the lime while benefiting from the OFTD Funk?
Mai Tai Thunderdome!
2 enter 1 leaves!
You can’t go wrong with a Mai Tai. I love Banks 5 and Ten To One white rum.
Mai Tais are the best! 10 2 1 is a new one to me but I dig it!
Now I'm excited to have a mai tai this evening. Thanks, Pete!
You got it Nathan!
My my that is a lot of Mai Tais!!! Love swapping out the spirit in well loved cocktails to see how it changes.
Pretty fun! Thanks for watching!

You should find Ten to One it’s pretty unusual, and not very expensive, I highly recommend!

WP 109 is really good, would make an awesome float for sure!

Banks 5 of this group, otherwise real McCoy 3 maybe, or even the 10to 1 would be good. Lots of options!
