The Year Serena Went UNDEFEATED On Clay | 2013 Peak Serena

  • The 31 match winning streak of Serena Williams on Clay in 2013 including her 4 tournament victories in Charleston, Madrid, Rome and the French Open (Roland Garros).
    This was the first time she won RG in 11 years since 2002, as it was extra special given that she had lost in the first round of a slam for the first time the year before at the 2012 French Open.

    Chris Evert saying Serena is at the end of her career in 2013 gave me a laugh. Nobody could have predicted she would still be competing at age 40. She truly is the GOAT

      @@PravoslavniVitez But Realize, how Steffi has no doubles titles? I would also argue that Steffi did not have formidable competition in her era what with the unfortunate stabbing of Monica Seles who was the only real competition she would have had, Steffi also appeared at an era where Navratilova and Evert were older and waning and honestly she had it easy. Not only has Serena competed on the doubles circuit, but she faced much competition from Martina Hingis, Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters, Venus, Davenport, Sharapova, Angelique Kerber, Simona Halep, Naomi Osaka and. Also correction Serena generally had a higher career win % until recently, Yes shes playing poorly because I mean at almost 40 who wouldn't. I have to applaud Serena and truly believe she is GOAT because I have to ask if it wasn't for Gunther would Steffi have won as many titles and as many Times? I also have to think of Serena being robbed vs Capriati at the US open leading to the introduction of Hawkeye, Serena honestly is many peoples GOAT because also of all she has come back from, the racism she has faced and still managing to show resilience.

    The toughest opponent Serena has to worry about is herself. When she's calm and focused, no other woman can touch her. When her emotions and drama is created, then she can have a horrid time. This clay achievement was a wake up call. She is the GOAT!

    This vid is AMAZING! Far too often, the nuances of Serena (and Venus)'s games aren't given the credit they deserve. Serena has always been terrific at net, which is why she and Venus have won so many Doubles Grand Slams (and Olympic Gold medals). She transitions wonderfully on Clay, as her mobility in sliding seems so fluid and natural. Not to mention that she was 31 during this run, an age where alot of tennis greats are either already retired or nearing it. She was hitting another PEAK LEVEL of performance

    This video is incorrect at 1:00. Serena won FIVE clay tournaments in 2013 including French Open: Charleston, Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros, then Bastad (with the loss to Lisicki, on grass, the only disruption in that winning streak). No male or female player (besides Serena) has ever won FIVE clay titles in one calendar year while simultaneously going undefeated on clay. And yet people act like clay is Serena’s weakness lol. Even Nadal hasn’t done what she did in that sense.

    • @BTURNER1961
      @BTURNER1961 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry Bryan. In 1974 Evert won 8 tournaments and was undefeated: Fort Lauderdale, Sarasota, St Petersburg, Hilton Head, the Italian, the French, US Clay Court championships, Canadian Championships in Toronto, and a two round invitational which I am not counting. the next year1975, Evert won 7 and was undefeated. Amelia Island, Italian Open ,French Open , United States Clay Court Championships, Medi-quick Rye New York, United States Open Championships, Orlando, and a two round invitational event at Hilton Head again which I am not counting. And then she keeps winning everything she enters on clay for 3 more years undefeated until she finally loses in 1979 to Austin. And yes, clay was Serena's weak suit, or she would have more than 3 RG titles to her name.

    • @bryanmartin5901
      @bryanmartin5901 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BTURNER1961 name another tournament that the modern WTA schedule would have allowed Serena to win more clay tournaments in a single calendar year? Notice that Serena’s also were actual 1000-level tournaments as well, not draws with what, 16 or 32 women? And the fact that multiple grand slams were ever on clay is an embarrassment to our great sport which originated on grass and was meant to be played there. “Only 3” French Opens = a weakness? Do you have any idea how many players would kill for 3 French open titles; and who would be praised endlessly as masters of the clay if they won the FO THREE times? Evert’s powderpuff tennis in tiny draws are unimpressive. But I do see your point.
