As someone who has interacted with the Hetalia Fandom I can say it's a lot better nowadays there's arguably less cringy 13 year Olds who think nazis are cool or whatever
@@TheKillerDoll Hate to break it to you but someone on Twitter, I think, made some questionable art of Ukraine and Russia from Hetalia in response to the Ukrainian War.
True, it's not as bad anymore, all of them went to the Countryhumans fandom. Also that's kinda surprising because fandoms rarely get batter, they mainly get worse
I remember 14 y/o me stumbling across nsfw Italy x Germany doujinshi in which Germany proceeds to burn a goddamn nazi symbol into Italy’s skin. What the FUCK was this fandom
@@TheKillerDoll The fan comics were full of the most truly deplorable shit, and that’s not even getting started on the multitude of baby south Italy x Spain stuff.
Yeah, its a fact that the characters have to follow what their bosses say and do but essentially have no choice or will in the matter even though they dislike the boss
as someone who was into hetalia, was apart of the production of dreamtalia, and is friends with the creator of 23.5...... this was not something i was expecting to see in my 2022
HOW did someone write the words "good morning, adolf" and not stop to think "huh this is a bit fucked up" ironically the show goes out of its way to avoid the darker sides of history, which makes sense since its meant to be a light-hearted comedy. the fandom on the other hand....
Seeing these reviews makes me glad I joined this fandom as late as I did. That is messed up, and I do not associate myself with it. And it’s sad because no matter how much we sweep that under the carpet hoping time will patch it up, it’s never going to. This will always stain the fandom, along with... _other things_. But give credit where it’s due, the fandom is soooooo much better now and I am lovin it. Ba da ba ba ba! All that is hopefully behind us. Hooray!
Me too, I joined the fandom 4 month ago and right now in Instagram and TH-cam people are way chiller. Not joining Tumblr tho because I think that specially in that social people are toxic (also that site is basically dying)
I started watching Hetalia with my Discord Server a few weeks back, weirdest show on the planet, we really like it, I couldn't have imagined that the fandom was THIS bad
Not anymore tbh. We’re VERY good nowadays. In the fandom it’s frowned upon to even mention Hitler or the holocaust. Nowadays there’s just minor references to history like in the comics. References to Brixity, maybe some other minor rebellions, etc.
I like hetalia a lot…but I’m not a nazi supporter or a history fan and I don’t ship ppl, I just like the anime and the characters with there funny personality’s, and I like to draw them, I’m sure I’m not the only hetalia fan who is like this, It’s the small ducked up group that is the loudest
idk if this is just me, but back then when i liked hetalia a super amount, i still never knew any of this was going on lmao? like the whole nazi stuff? and i was like a major hetalia fan and i’m so surprised that i was able to dodge this shit. i didn’t even hear about this nazi stuff until like last year in 2021 and i was so confused because i couldn’t understand why people would do those type of things. like what the fuck? but to be fair, i didn’t interact a whole lot with the hetalia fandom back then (or even now), and i only talked about it with my irl friends and maybe one or two online friends. the only “bad” thing that i remember happening back then for me personally was my friends and i being weebs since we were in middle school and shouting “pastaaaa~!” every two seconds and annoying everyone.
7:27 In 2019,a while before covid hit the world,a new fandom gained the attraction of the internet called"country humans" the fandom was kinda like hetalia, but worse ,it had no shame at all, since most of the fandom were little kids who didn't understand the seriousness of human history, stepping two foots into the fandom, will lead you to see countless fanarts of none other than the third Reich itself,a lot of them were ship art, which included Germany as soft UwU kawaii gay femboy country,i will not go into detail but one of the most popular ship was "sovietreich" (I'll let that sink in) with countless fanfiction filled with grape, gore, torture, Stockholm syndrome, and a very wrong representation of the countries , a good example of this would be the infamous, sovietreich fanfiction "was always mine"which the creator deleted due to the harassment coming from the r/ country humans cringe subreddit(which is now deactivated) and due to mental health issues I don't why I made this comment :/
Tbf, I've seen stuff from hetalia and read some pretty classic hetalia fics with all the old tropes typical of the fandom at the time. Nothing prepared me for what I saw regarding countryhumans holy hell.
I was in Countryhumans before hetalia and…. Oh boy. The fact I knew a bit of history but still partook in ch scares me. Honestly I don’t think I did anything with Nazi and Soviet (aside from giving them a lovers to enemies story, so backwards.) I literally hate myself 💀💀💀 I was also one of the people who drew Japan as a kawaii neko girl… big culture shock when I came to hetalia. The differences in character are shocking. Like in CH, Poland is shy usually, and mentally I’ll. While in hetalia he’s just a little queer 💀 I canttttr. Me in Countryhumans was weird tbh. Cuz I was an AVID RusAme shipper. It’s not like I’m against it by any means nowadays, but the media I consumed was straight garbage. Like Russia was practically abusive and America was a femboy send help
This makes me really sad I never knew how bad the fandom truly got if I’m being honest- I was only ever active on quotev, amino, and tumblr when it came to hetalia back in 2012-2015 and met some cool people back then- I kin Prussia but seeing people pose with nazis in a Prussia cosplay makes me feel absolutely sick to my stomach. 😢
As someone in the Hetalia fandom (and trying to at least recruit one new Hetalian in these new times were it’s a practically dead fandom) I don’t claim them as Hetalian, y’all can keep him, and I will never. 6:12 SAME
I really love Hetalia but I don’t think the fandom is going to change because it’s been a few days ( I think) that the queen Elizabeth dies and now I can’t even go to any Hetalia tags on tumblr without seeing the queen is dead meme along with England crying nonstop. I hate when the Hetalia fandom mix the show with reality
Tbf, I've seen those. A massive chunk of that is 100% the fans ironically taking the piss out of the whole thing because had this been a decade ago? You would have seen that shit unironically. The fandom is very aware of its past and revels in making fun of it lol
Hey! Hetalia fan here, the fandom is so much better now- thank god. It still disgusts me how many KIDS were making these decisions… The anime (basically) never references it, and it’s gross how kids made art of it. I can’t imagine how the VAs felt that their silly little characters were…. Doing.. that crap. Anyways, it seems that the relatively bad part of the fandom has moved on, and I’m glad
As an italian fan of Hetalia, I do have some old memories of stumbling upon the same kind of nazi fanart you showed in the video, and the discomfort it brought to me since Germany was and still is my favorite character. However I've never heard of the nazi cosplayers/fanfics and the Holocaust photoshoot until recently. Guess I was lucky enough to not fall into that weird stuff. Also, I've been in various fandoms of other anime series and I always see the same problem with the shipping of characters and the self-inserts, and I feel horrible sometimes because I tend to make OCs that are similar to me in terms of personality and then ship them with my favorite characters; I never made NSFW stuff though, it's too embarrassing for me. However, I feel like the Hetalia fandom is much more safe now and there are a lot of artists and history nerds just having fun - joined a Hetalia subreddit a few days ago: the people there are nice and chill. I hope it stays like this for a long time :)))
im left with a few thoughts, as someone who used to be in the fandom 1. im so glad ive gone down the history lover route instead of the nazi fanfic route. 2. i thought id be desensitized enough to be completely unphased by that fanfic reading, but im glad to know what i still have enough sanity left to be in shock and disbelief in what in was hearing. im glad this side of the fandom wasnt as relevant when i was in the hetalia fandom. or if it was, at least middle school me didnt come across it.
@@TheKillerDoll yeah ill give you that one. Deadman deserved more love than it got. BUT THE WAY YOU PULLED OUT THE KNIFE READY TO SHANK..... you're amazing Justine lmao
I've been in the hetalia fandom for quite some time now(and still am) and it was a total trainwreck. And that time when I saw people making nazi cosplays and fanart of Germany and Prussia being nazi's left me speechless. I was really embarrassed by ppl In the fandom that time. It was kind of a waste cause the anime was really good (it got me interested in history lol) but the fandom was shitty. Sometimes I liked to Imagine the hetalia characters reacting to the chaoticness of the fandom and then going like "what have we done😟" OH AND THE SHIPPING WARS, DEAR LORD. But I'm glad the fandom has calmed down now, it's all chill I guess.
Being a german cosplayer who also was/is in the Hetalia fandom I have to say that the whole nazi content thing was never present at conventions in well... Germany! Hell you can actually go to jail for that... what I found is actually this kind of fanfics and there might also be some ffs with the current ongoing war in Ukraine... it's just.... I cannot and will never understand
I know there's a hell lot of bad stuff in Hetalia but I just want to take time and give credit to the fanfic writers that wrote the characters with their canon personalities and made it historically accurate. I mean when writing fanfic that needs historical accuracy, especially with a show like this, can be really hard because there are a lot of walls that can be hit.
Changing a personality a bit was still better retaining a personality form canon one, Sweden, Norway and Iceland are bunch of emotionless and smileless twats doesn't know how to smile and show happiness
Apart from the one infamous post on Twitter or whatever about Ukraine forcing a knife into Russia's hand and saying he was attacking her - (which I think this was made by someone who wasn't in the fandom at ALL. Just someone who jumped on the whole site praying the Hetalia fandom didn't make fanart about Russia invading Ukraine) - the Hetalia fandom actually is way better. People acknowledge the cringe and shitty past of the fandom and know it's wrong. Then again, despite the recent season 7 of the anime, there's like 13 people within the fandom still (at least on Tumblr, which is ironic since that's where the Hetalia fandom really boomed)
i'd disagree with "cringe being wrong". cringe is good, especialyl in the hetalia fandom. More so the dozens of youngsers and more just.. putting themselves out there creatively ya know? drawing art, singing the ending songs...
@@STEVEYTHEEXEEVEE By cringe, I mean the ones who were cosplaying N@zi$ to stay "true" to Germany during the Axis Powers arc. Stuff like that is cringe, not people enjoying a piece of media and being respectful in their enjoyment of it.

Cosplayed Italy in 2010 and the con I was at had an actually really chill hetalia fandom. Zero tolerance at photo shoots for being an idiot, would teach etiquette on things that while intended to be innocent were offensive and should not be done, zero tolerance for non consenting touching. Made it a really good experience because it was just history nerds in cosplay
Hey ! To anyone here around 2024, I'm back in the fandom. I found out about hetalia 6 years ago, so lucky me i didn't know much about that dark period. But now I'm glad to see that the fandom is mostly artist and chill people who still love to read Himaruya's scan. I feel like the fandom is way less around the anime and i prefer it this way. And if anyone today is in this fandom, welcome ! :D
Honestly same, its a guilty pleasure anime for me (personally i think i just like how fast paced it is and its not like you need to watch all of them back to back to enjoy it)
@@TheKillerDoll yeah, hetalia was a huge part of my life. I'm sure if you did a follow up video it would get alot of views. lmk if you want a story because back in middle school I had a Prussia cosplayer during Halloween that made her mark on the school forever. 🥶
CW THIS HAS MURDER I remember like a month ago I read a Gerita fanfic on wattpad. I don't remember what it was called but I don't want to because MEIN GOTT IT WAS BAD. It had Germany and Italy in the setting of a fucking concentration camp. In the first paragraph Germany shot and killed a 10 year old Jewish boy because he smiled on his fucking birthday. Also there was smut and it was bad. I think it ended with them either being caught by the allies and hung for their crimes, or it ended with them being caught as gay and then some other Nazis hung them. Pretty fucked up story to say the least. I hate everything 😭
as someone who was a cringe little kid who was in this fandom, i remember going to a convention dressed as Canada and...well a group of older women (older then me at the time probably 20's-30's) in Hetalia costume having me go around with them (yes these where strangers) They then had me give them my phone number and convinced me i should meet them for another convention that was miles away...im so glad my parents did not give me the money for that train ticket cos hek knows what would have happened :/
I just started getting into hetalia and Germany is my favorite character because of my German ancestry and I just really like him so I’m glad the fandom is better now.
I was like 13-14 in the fandom and we all pretended to be characters at school or when playing together. I was always Canada, my friends were America, Russia, France, and Italy. It was so fun, but looking back, it was so embarrassing. Also loved the whole 2P! character concept.
This is pretty beyond fucked up. There should have been some common sense and consideration from the cosplayers to respect to the victims involved due to holocaust.
i was into hetalia around 2013-2015 and i am SO glad i only cared abt the nordic characters (honestly really just finland lmao)😭😭😭 my memory of the hetalia fandom is like: dog named Flower Egg (hanatamago finlands dog), sweden and finland "adopting" sealand, norway's phone hair pain, finland being santa, etc lol (also some sufin fanfic that seemed like the author REALLY wanted salad flavored gelato to be a thing)
It's been such a long time since some fans talk (again) about the darkside hetalia fandom. But im happy though seeing someone still remember hetalia, like it's diamond in the dust. Thankyou for make me remember again old times XD
I love hetaila because it was just a cute show to me and i found the gerita ship wholesome, but something about it did feel off to me. Why do they make a whole series about the axis powers and just ignore everything that made it evil? If they are going to include a serious subject, the author should portray that and it felt so wrong that it was made as a wholesome comedy the whole time during that. OUT OF ALL OF THE HISTORY IN THE WORLD, WHY CHOOSE WW2!??! Later seasons didn't have axis powers stuff, and it feels like the axis powers thing was unnecessary. In the show it was never shown that Germany hated hitler, or anything about facism in Italy, they had a serious moment between America and England but can't include an anti Hitler moment?!?!? They didn't have to mention the horrors of gas chambers and stuff all they had to do was just be like "yes nazism is bad. We are now free."
Used to be into Hetalia and my family is Italian. My ex tho.... she never used my name only names from fandoms. She tried to call me a name from Hetalia but was upset that she couldnt be Italy (I didnt even want a nickname) so she pressured me into going by Germany.... After cheating once WITH MULTIPLE PEOPLE she tried to convince me to forgive her with a "love note" from "italy to germany". Safe to say I've cut all contact.
This video brings me back memories when I was in the Hetalia fandom in 2013-early 2015, I honestly didn't know about these incidents but I do still know seeing fan art of Germany and Prussia as Nazis....yeah that's fucked up. I got in the fandom in the first place is due to one of my old friends (whom I lost contact after middle school) introduced Hetalia to me in 7th grade. I still remember this one girl that I knew was a huge Germany fangirl btw. I also still remember reading extremely cringey Hetalia fanfics on both fanfiction net and wattpad (very rarely read fanfics on the latter). I should've known that this fandom was bad but I never interacted with other fans in the fandom back then, I'm no longer in the Hetalia fandom to this day but I do still have some fond memories of watching that anime
Goodness, you brought up memories I wanted to forget. But hey this video is very well done and glad I was part of the respectful part of the fandom. As much as I cringe at past me who was absolutely obsessed with Hetalia, I have to say I’m thankful for the manga and anime for getting me into cosplay, history, learning languages and different cultures.
I still kind of,, lurk in the Hetalia fandom. I wasn't ever really an active participant. I remember hearing all about the bad things that would happen in terms of arguements and disrespect. I'm glad I wasn't really super engaged with that show honestly. I'm still super attached to aph Lithuania to this day though :')
Its so super weird that germany cosplayers were doing nazi stuff when germany himself is never seen as a nazi. I mean there is a slight glimse at Germanys boss being hitler but nazism itself is never reflected in Germany as a character.
ive known hetalia for around 7 years now. i can confirm that once you get into hetalia, its stuck with you forever. even if you manage to escape the fandom, you cant escape hetalia. till this day i still sometimes imagine the characters instead of the actual countries.
been in the hetalia fandom for nearly a decade,,,,, from cringy tween to cringy adult, i’ve seen many horrors, and it’s great to see it all encapsulated in one video lmao. most of the biggest issues have shifted to other fandoms, but i*cest ships are still pretty common, at least within the eastern side of things (aka i don’t see much on western social media, maybe the occasional fix on ao3, but the moment i check pixiv or search up new doujins, boom! i*cest!) ^_^’’
As a german person that used to be part of that fandom years ago as a dumb kid, it‘s certainly very ugly in terms of how the series itself blatantly erases the ww2 stuff for being „too disturbing“ but also the nazi shit was always a thing that ppl kinda desensitized in the fandom even in germany wich was hella nasty. Although I never really saw anyone here cosplay with the straight up nazi uniforms but still it‘s just a wild can of worms. Not to mention as well all the pedo stuff ppl would always glorify and stuff or the weird russia prussia abuse relationship obsession people had wich was related to how germany was split I guess but yeah it was just really weird looking back and I‘m still feeling quite aweful remembering it all. It just feels so nasty and cringe to me now and I‘m not even a person to be like „ew cringe!“ when it comes to other fandoms being cringy cause I see that usually as just harmless fun of children or teens. But hetalia was just too extreme in retrospect. It‘s such a gross disrespectful „comedy“ of history and nationality drenched in ugly stereotypes and weird fujoshi bait and I really just feel like gagging when I remember it now. Yes. It was THAT bad yall! I mean even the country humans thing feels less bad to me for some reason. But that‘s a low bar! God! I just wish we all didn‘t get into that phase. It was so not worth it lmao

@@pandascanrun I feel the answer is pretty self explanatory. While I agree that APH could’ve handled certain topics better, I do feel that it’s pretty obvious why a skit comedy surrounding country relations and cultural trivia wouldn’t necessarily mention the truly gritty and far more sensitive topics such as the Holocaust and specific instances of fascism. The show was never meant to portray serious topics to begin with. I think the focus on WWII initially might’ve been a way to set up general groups of characters and placements. Though as you said the focus in later seasons shifted from that, which was considerably for the better- we still have the main associated groupings, but it’s moreso there for character relationships. While these darker instances could’ve benefited from maybe some brief mentions, I understand why they were typically avoided given the show’s tone and intent. What I don’t understand is how the fanbase took it upon themselves during those times to make actual mockeries of shit like the Holocaust, because the source material just straight up never mentioned it.
This was probably in part due to the terrible dub, where it made a bad joke about the holocaust that was never in the original. I think the dub brought a lot of idiot fans that were in it for the awful attempt at humour (that changed canon dialogue) and these people didn’t care at all about learning the actual history.
proud to say that the hetalia fandom got a whole factory reset, the UkUs shippers finally understood that it's weird to pair them, nazi's arent cool.............. and theyve fixed most of their flaws! its really calm now, not as lively as it was back then, but WAYYYYYYYYY better now!
i need to know how the modern fandom feels about finland cus i have not interacted w this fandom in like 10 years and i literally only cared about finland 😭
Hello everyone! Nice video, very accurate and it brought back many memories about Hetalia and the fandom in 2010... I would like to say that, in my opinion, every fandom unfortunaly has these controversies: incest, pedofilia, organized crime, etc... It’s up to people to understand that it is wrong and not follow these concepts, in any fandom. I admit my community was great: I was really shy and Hetalia made me meet lots of new and friendly people. History was not my favourite subject, but after Hetalia I saw how interesting and exciting it was. The invention of Hetalia Day was also nice and interesting: it was great to see people from all over the world posting cosplay videos or photos while showing their country and their customs. It was as if a huge family had been created. But I seem to have understood that in each state things were different. I speak as an Italian: we never, really never had to deal with the nazi/fascist cosplay in this fandom, but because we really have them and our relatives had really lived the war. Nobody wanted to be related to such people, and we didn’t deal with the subject much either, except in a serious way. The uniform of Italy was not equal to a real war uniform, but still we made it unrecognizable or we dressed in casual clothes because fascism in Italy is obviously illegal and criminally punishable. Moreover, nobody did the cosplay of Germany: I think I saw only two cosplayers in all those years, with casual clothes and without flag. The reason is always the same, and it's a pity beacause we love the character. With other fandoms it happened that some people had certain symbols during cosplay fairs: the police came immediately to get them removed (I wish they did it more often even with real criminals, but that’s another story). The basic idea of dealing with such a controversial, heavy and still very close to us topic in a light way, would not have been wrong: we have a lot of historical films that deal with WWII even in light way. But I realize that Hymaruya should have organized it better, but I don’t know how the Japanese manage WWII. In conclusion, for me the Hetalia community was a beautiful and very confrontational time. Overall, the positive aspects are more than the negative aspects. I’m glad that it’s still a living fandom, where you can talk about any kind of topic and somehow still bring people together.
As someone still in the fandom and joined in 2014. While i haven't personal seen any RECENT art of the Russian Ukraine war (thought i wouldn't be surprised if it existed). There was art being made of the annexation Russia did of Donbas (i can't spell) in 2014. While not a whole lot I seen it at the time. And these older pieces being even being brough up more recently. Though the modern Hetalia fandom does crack down on people making inappropriate art of WW2 or other KNOWN tragies. I said known in the sense that for example alot of people probably don't understand why it's completely inappropriate to make lovely dovey art of Russia x any of the Baltics for example. As alot of non Europeans probably didn't research the history or if they did they just skimmed Wikipedia and didn't really look into the realty of Russification in the Baltics and current ethnic tensions/ issues Russia caused these countries. While there have been Hetalia fans from said countries and even people from these countries who find the fandom example why it's not appropriate to do what they are doing. It doesn't get nearly as much push back because it's not a known event/ tragity (by most the world standards) and so unless there is a big enough fuss about it people just won't see or ignore the people trying to explain the history. So while i think the fandom has gotten a bit better with a wave of i think new fans coming to Tumblr from tiktok (as i headd Hetalia had a boot of resurgence on there) these younger fans are starting to clog up the actual counties tag on Tumbler with their RP BS and it's making people from these countries mad. As alot of the younger fans probably just don't know or care about learning the Hetalia tags and to not use the actual counties tag. So make of that what you will.
I dont know if “loving” is necessary the right word for it BUT they sure as shit were dressing up as them and making fanart of Germany and Prussia as Nazis seemingly often🙃
If you would watch kolkos introduction to the fandom video you would learn that this video is actually a LOT better then it was back in 2009-2014 mainly because most of the bad people grew up and got out of the fandom and if there is a newbie doing something bad it’s usually the veterans of the fandom that stop the behavior so yeah it is actually kinda tame compared to other anime fandoms
when I was in middle schooler I thought it was all fine cosplaying Nazis and especially how my friend supported them. I didnt Cosplay or knew Nazis or supported them, I just enjoy the series and ship incest without learning that it's not okay. I felt cringe and ashame at my younger self even after learning ww2 / how gross incest is. I wish I learnt better I used to ship Us + Can / Us + Uk 😬 yeah that's cringe middle school me 😅
Unfortunately, my most intense and long drawn out fffffANDOM, was hetalia with an ex-friend. Thank, GOD, we didn’t go on forums or something and end up being indoctrinated by neo-nazis. No, just my ex friend shipping countries like dolls in a doll house, and me writing self- 🤢 self-inserts with them like it was A THING to do. And listen self-inserts are nice and great and I think you should be able to enjoy yourself but the problem HERE is that it was a personification of a country that- Well we don’t need to get into it. Don’t worry about it. Everyone shut up forever.
When you showed the nazi fanart i assumed people made that just because they liked the uniforms, BUT THEN YOU GOT TO THE MFING FANFICTION. AND THEY ACTUALLY SOUND LIKE THEY AGREE WITH HITLER. I personally think people could make art of the uniforms just without the nazi symbols on it etc, because it would be a waste of a good design. But when people add the symbols it feels like someone could use that to promote neo nazi stuff.
I have been a fan of Hetalia for 5 years, I love the stories, BUT I HATE OC SHIPPING IN HETALIA. Things that I hate/dislike in the Hetalia fandom: 1. one person who created the ship Germany x Oc (the federal state of Germany but I won't say which one because I don't want that person to find this comment, but the name of the country starts with the letter "B" and ends with the letter "A"). This person has denied many times that this OC is not related to Germany because it used to be a Slavic state and hides behind the fact that they are studying history (I asked my History teacher whether this federal state of Germany is related to Germany and the History teacher said - "yes"). Most often, OCs are created because a person makes a self-insert in order to ship himself (i.e. self-insert OC) with a given country. 2. I hate how the fandom is not interested in history and only argues about some idiotic ships. 3. I know one fan of a certain country and I used to be hyperfixated on it I managed to taste the culture of this country, I started collecting information about this country, learning the history of this country and I even tried to learn the language of this country, I collected most information about this country (in terms of Himaruya's blogs), I tried to learn new songs from this country (I love Greek songs and especially the 80s❤). This person was not interested in anything and was only interested in the character, did not deepen any knowledge about this character, did not even want to know the lore of this character in terms of Hetalia (which is strange if you are hyperfixated on a given character) and was delighted with its appearance and created a healthy relationship with this character. 4. Referring only to the historical evidence presented by Hima (which is often wrong) I still love Hetalia but the fandom is ehh.... So now I'm focusing more on Harry Potter, like, that series calms me down...
I knew some people online who were more libertine about the nazi and other darker elements. I would see but honestly I didn’t care either way. I wouldn’t be in that photo but that’s part of history. And it was somewhat of a fetish
I love the dub of hetalia. At the end of the day its a comedy anime. Its meant to be satire and all comedy shouldn’t be taken seriously. Its just a joke. I find it funny but i dont agree with what they say or do in real life. Its just dark humour and if you dont like it dont watch it lol. But I agree that the fandom is toxic. Its mostly the fandom and not the anime itself. Im 27 so i know whats a joke and what’s inappropriate in rl. Take fawlty towers for example it made some Questionable jokes about N**** and Germany but its still one of the funniest moments in comedy to this day. If people cant tell the difference between a joke and whats rl then its on them.
Yeah, I never really got how people were so offended by hetalia. It's just supposed to be a comedy, nothing really serious. Like, I'm American, and I think it's really funny how he's portrayed as an arrogant idiot who eats too much 😭 cause I know at the end of the day it's not 100% true and I'm able to laugh at the absurdity of it. Satire is satire, y'know?
I’m sorry, I know a lot of those cosplayers shouldn’t have done what the did, but the way fact that you went out of your way to show the faces of people purposefully blocked out for their safety rather disgusts me. A lot of this stuff is old, and I’m sure many of this people have grown up and realized how offensive they were. They have their faces blocked to protect them from being harassed and doxxed. You’re tone doesn’t help it either. Again, I’m sorry, but it genuinely made me uncomfortable with the way you showed these pictures from over 10 years ago with your sassy remarks and mannerisms.
I hate the fact that they make Germany a nazi and make it look cool in fanfics, when in CANON germany hates hitler...😕

HOW did someone write the words "good morning, adolf" and not stop to think "huh this is a bit fucked up"
ironically the show goes out of its way to avoid the darker sides of history, which makes sense since its meant to be a light-hearted comedy. the fandom on the other hand....
This is why I hate fandoms in general. Happy to hear it got better for Hetalia though...
Hooray!
Yo
Me too, I joined the fandom 4 month ago and right now in Instagram and TH-cam people are way chiller. Not joining Tumblr tho because I think that specially in that social people are toxic (also that site is basically dying)
Same!! I joined in January 2020. I really enjoy being on Reddit tbh.
Same, I also don't know how I dodged all this stuff, it's pretty surprising.
i love hetalia lol. the fandom is so chill now

In 2019,a while before covid hit the world,a new fandom gained the attraction of the internet called"country humans" the fandom was kinda like hetalia, but worse ,it had no shame at all, since most of the fandom were little kids who didn't understand the seriousness of human history, stepping two foots into the fandom, will lead you to see countless fanarts of none other than the third Reich itself,a lot of them were ship art, which included Germany as soft UwU kawaii gay femboy country,i will not go into detail but one of the most popular ship was "sovietreich" (I'll let that sink in) with countless fanfiction filled with grape, gore, torture, Stockholm syndrome, and a very wrong representation of the countries , a good example of this would be the infamous, sovietreich fanfiction "was always mine"which the creator deleted due to the harassment coming from the r/ country humans cringe subreddit(which is now deactivated) and due to mental health issues
I don't why I made this comment :/
I hope it stays like this for a long time :)))
im left with a few thoughts, as someone who used to be in the fandom
1. im so glad ive gone down the history lover route instead of the nazi fanfic route.
2. i thought id be desensitized enough to be completely unphased by that fanfic reading, but im glad to know what i still have enough sanity left to be in shock and disbelief in what in was hearing.
im glad this side of the fandom wasnt as relevant when i was in the hetalia fandom. or if it was, at least middle school me didnt come across it.

And that time when I saw people making nazi cosplays and fanart of Germany and Prussia being nazi's left me speechless. I was really embarrassed by ppl In the fandom that time. It was kind of a waste cause the anime was really good (it got me interested in history lol) but the fandom was shitty.
Sometimes I liked to Imagine the hetalia characters reacting to the chaoticness of the fandom and then going like "what have we done😟"
OH AND THE SHIPPING WARS, DEAR LORD.

I remember like a month ago I read a Gerita fanfic on wattpad. I don't remember what it was called but I don't want to because MEIN GOTT IT WAS BAD. It had Germany and Italy in the setting of a fucking concentration camp. In the first paragraph Germany shot and killed a 10 year old Jewish boy because he smiled on his fucking birthday.

A bit of naughty ASMR doesn't seem so bad now.
The countyhumans fandom is worce

Oh God. Wasn't that the one that had a bunch of People being and loving Nazis? You brought a bunch of lost Memmorys back that I never wanted🥲

And listen self-inserts are nice and great and I think you should be able to enjoy yourself but the problem HERE is that it was a personification of a country that-
Well we don’t need to get into it.
But when people add the symbols it feels like someone could use that to promote neo nazi stuff.
im so glad its much better now
I have been a fan of Hetalia for 5 years, I love the stories, BUT I HATE OC SHIPPING IN HETALIA.
Things that I hate/dislike in the Hetalia fandom:
1. one person who created the ship Germany x Oc (the federal state of Germany but I won't say which one because I don't want that person to find this comment, but the name of the country starts with the letter "B" and ends with the letter "A").
4. Referring only to the historical evidence presented by Hima (which is often wrong)
I still love Hetalia but the fandom is ehh....
@@communistbagel I live in the uk and the guys roasting Britain for how terrible the food is is so accurate and hilarious haha
I’ve never clicked a notification so fast
NOOOOOOOOO GERMANY WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU
Maybe they are displaying budist peace symbols, doing Roman salutes, and wearing Charlie Chapman mustaches.
Again, I’m sorry, but it genuinely made me uncomfortable with the way you showed these pictures from over 10 years ago with your sassy remarks and mannerisms.
dude theyre nazis cmon now
I have nothing to say.....
