      The problem of living on welfare in the west is that it gradually demonish the dignity of individuals. To live is not just to meet biological need, but to have a life which is way beyond food or clothing.

    Just imagine within 40 years, China not only uprooted extreme poverty of 1.4 billions, become 2nd largest economy, built great infrastructures on its soil, it also build infrastructures and huge investment around the world. That's unprecedented in human history. Napoleon was really right in predicting that, "let China asleep for when it awake it will shake the world". He knew the potential of Chinese even in those days.

      you overlooked a few things. 1. the Korean war was a warning that China would defend its interest. 2. land reform. the people who lost everything are the China haters to this day. 3. USSR provided China 150+ programs of assistance to industrialize. 4. commune or collectivization system didn't work and they paid a heavy price for it.

    As a canadian civil engineer, I'm astonished (and/or obsessed) by how the chinese infrastructure is developping. I wish we had that kind of political will here... but our politicians are far too busy hating each other - except when they join forces to hate on china of course. Pls send help.

      I agree. I think it also has something to do with how many Chinese politicians actually have an engineering background, as opposed to the typical Western politician (Here in Canada we have way too many lawyers and bankers...). I'm not saying they're useless professions, but they sometimes lack a result-oriented way of thinking i.m.o.

      Unemployment rates in the United States are complete lies. The real unemployment rate in the United States is closer to 40%.
      If somebody works 1 hour a week at minimum wage they count that as a full-time happy employee. If somebody has to have three crapy jobs just in order to barely make ends meet, they count that as three happy full-time employed people. The unemployment numbers are complete lies.
      The closest thing you could get to the true unemployment rate is the job participation rate and even that is a lie. Same criteria, they count people as fully happily employed if they work 1 hour a week. It is a big lie what the unemployment rate is in the United States.
      Contrary to propaganda, which the entire unemployment rate is, close to 40% of the homeless work. So if somebody has a part-time job that pays almost nothing, and doesn't even give them enough money to rent a room somewhere so they are homeless, they count that as a full-time happy employed person in the United States.

    If you want success, you must build a road to it. This is a slogan Chinese people called for since 1980s. The slogan is very materialist of China. Chinese materialism does not reject the agency of individuals. Everyone has natural rights to be successful. However, rather than merely arguing their rights, Chinese people are more materialist of building roads, the physical conditions, to bridge their internal ambitions of success with external business opportunities. Chinese people are talking less but working more. Salute to diligent Chinese people and to practical Chinese materialist philosophy.

    Guizhou Province has the most spectacular bridges and the highest number of bridges in the world. I visited Guizhou in 2016. When I drove on the highway bridge, I didn’t think it was too special. When we drove out of the highway, the highway was at the bottom of the bridge. When I passed by, I was shocked. The bridge was very high, higher than a dozen stories, perhaps higher than a building with more than 20 stories. The scenery in Guizhou is very beautiful. What impressed me most is that the climate is very good, there is no pollution and the temperature in summer is not hot, even in the hottest July, I did not turn on the air conditioner.
