Lovely to have a good refresher on PZB/LZB signaling. I have always enjoyed Matt's tutorials; I think he does a great job explaining things. I was wondering if we could also see a similar kind of tutorial for North American and United Kingdom signaling systems. Even though these systems aren't as safety system "heavy," I believe it would benefit many to gain more immersion from the software.
I am so glad that you have done this Matt, I have struggled with LZB PZB and this has helped me greatly. I think your presentation is great and I enjoy any of your tutorials.
One note: Tempomat (when pressed) works exactly the same as the AFB when using R/F (increase/decrease) to control a speed. It can slower a train as well :) Great video, Matt. More theory makes the game fuller.
Thanks so much for this fantastic tutorial - really helped me get a better understanding of all the safety systems on German trains. As you said, much different from UK signals and safety systems, but with the benefit of increased safety. Now of to develop my knowledge back on the the German railways.
I think this was really well explained and the perfect mix of show and tell (or tell and show!). The only thing that could be improved is if the routes that were done after the powerpoint actually contained more adverse/wider variety of signals etc.
i’ve been going over this video for a few days now trying to learn all of the systems. Right now I use sifa and i'm getting use to pzb. this was a pretty good explanation of the safety system it definitely made me want to give it a try.
Matt. I love the commitment from your company. Service care and support is always difficult. I certainly appreciate what you do and how complicated all this stuff is. The technical challenges are there and the expectation from your community is very high. I for one have no complaint other than for loyal supporters of your software we do deserve some discount. I’m on Xbox and brought all routes and all trains bar three or so. My favourite game and actually my goto game along with assetto competizione.
The sales are not in their control, they already explained it: apart from discounts such as "cheaper if you got the first game" which are controlled by them, periodic sales are decided by the store owner (Steam, Sony or Microsoft), and Microsoft tends to do very few sales where Steam does lots of sales. And Sony does quite a fair amount of sales too.

Look out for advanced speed limit signs. In any case, add zero right of the written number to determine the speed limit. Exception is the automatic wash; 5 is 5 km/h. Don't expect the train to be clean after zooming past at 50 km/h.
Top tip: "PZB Wascham" after you pass a flashing signal. Before the signal start reducing speed. If your speed is not within the restricted range in 23s, Zwangsbremsung.
Re: 17:57 Perhaps the British and Australian vigilance systems and North American alerter systems are less annoying, being task-linked (timer can be reset by operating any of the controls) while Sifa apparently is not. I wonder if a task-linked version of Sifa has even been tried in the real world is there is an ergonomic case for it.
Matt, thank you for doing this video i really appreciate it since the game doesn't explain it at all. I have always wanted to give it a go but i never really understood it, and hence my train would always slam on the brakes lol
Is their a easier way of opening and closing doors cause that switch is very touchy. I've changed the keyboard settings to my likings for the doors...but still won't work. So the speaking voices are in a different language...can I change that to English??
Who knows 😀 I saw in the roadmap that a Swiss and French route are in the planning, so maybe the "world" in Train Sim World will finally make sense. Sadly you can't acquire licenses from the NS easily :(
Nice tutorial. I think it was time that someone did a more professional one. I did mine ages ago and really put no effort into editing or anything of the sort, but I was still surprised that quite a few people watched it. So the demand is obviously there. By the way: If you want to train PZB, I think the easiest way would be the new scenario editor. Make yourself a fast express service that runs the entire route with no stops, and put a train right in front of you that stops at every station. That should give you a lot to do with PZB, especially if you drive a fast accelerating train and give the AI something slow.
There is one part on this route with the talent 2 and pzb I don't understand. It's from when the top speed is 160 and like the first signal that's shows its going to 80 you need to acknowledge so than you need to brake very hard to go to 85 in 23 sec. Is there a signal in missing at seeing.
Excellent tutorial. Well done. Question: on Bakerloo my mouse is way to sensitive on collective. Changes with vibration of the train. Ideas? Also - on ICE, HUD speeds in KPH. Display is in MPH???
If the PZB system is not speed based why is it set to brake every time I enter a 120? Are you supposed to do 80 in a 120 to avoid stopping? Also how are you supposed to continue after PZB braking without getting failure?
I tried Aachen Turnaround and when approaching the third stop the PZB stops my train when approaching 60km/h. Do I acknowledge sometime before there? I’m having trouble getting it down on the Talent 2 but had little trouble on ICE 3.
Did you pass a distant signal showing Advanced Caution (double yellow) on your way there? Is the main signal ahead Danger (red)? If so, you run over 500 Hz magnet, which requires you to slow down to 45 km/h in about 300 meters. Since you are above the (PZB) limit, it assumes you did not see the distant signal and stops you out of precaution.
Pzb is crazy, will it be a bug or what? Scenario KÖLN Hbf - Aachen Hbf with talent2, I am about 160 - 163 km / h when I arrive at a flashing green signal and speed reduction to 80 km / h, before I even cross the signal I start to brake, pass the signal and press the PZB recognition, I continue to brake, I bring the brake to 75% over it is impossible for wheel slip, but despite this, the train after a while will activate the automatic brakes. Same route, a little further on even the limitation and at 60km / h, it is practically impossible to slow down so as not to trigger the safety braking. Could it be a bug or is there a way to avoid this?
What I'm witnessing is that sifa is the German version of the aws system on the class 377/4 train in east coastway And the non HST train on great western railway
Matt: I'll only cover PZB mode O, the passenger type Matt 5 minutes later: You have to slow down PZB U trains on Main Spessart Bahn to 55kmh, wait for the 1000Hz light to go out and then speed upto 70kmh.
The train does not have it in real life. Like Matt said in the stream, they actually modeled it in game, but their Deutsche Bahn expert laughed at them and told them to take it out, since it’s inaccurate.
@@112Haribo thanks for the answer, I had commented before seing that part. Do you maybe know why does then the train have the LZB switch? Is it a possible upgrade but DB did not choose to buy/install it?
Andraz Span The LZB system is only a must have for trains, that can go faster than 160 km/h. Otherwise the PZB is good enough to monitore them. In some trains of the DB, the LZB is built into trains that have a max speed of 160, but its not necessary for them at all. Moreover, the LZB costs computing capacity and so on...
@@GDArnis By setting the AFB to 0, it essentially commands the train to maintain 0 km/h, and will brake accordingly. Select AFB Aus first, before setting AFB to 0. As soon V-stoll...something is selected, tune AFB up.
Hello. i'm looking for the key to press for the battery. i don't find this information. Put on the battery is necessary when pantograph is in down position. If someone is having this information. Thank you very much.
@trainsimworld i tried the rolling start of AFB after the ENDE of LZB, but when i press 1 for AFB Aus nothing happens. im doing the snow and ice scenario. what happening here?
when you press AFB Aus nothing should happen because AFB is already off after LZB what you need to do (if you're on ICE3): throttle to 0 AFB to max (so when you enable AFB it won't slam on the brakes) on AFB screen softkey 6 for V-Soll Freigabe (basically free target speed) i believe AFB won't turn on with throttle above idle
In the PZB German Train Point shaped influence System you got 3 modes. It protects you not to run over the red signal. The first is the Under Train Mode got the 55 indicator light and you got 38 sec since you drive through the yellow Signal/1000 Hz to reduce the speed from 105 km/h to 55 km/h in 700 meters while the 1000 Hz indicator light is activ. You can free from the blinking 1000 Hz indicator after 700 meters with the free button. After than appears the 500 Hz indicator light 150 meters before the signal. There you have to reduce your speed again from 35 km/h to 25. The next is the Middle Train Mode with the 70 indicator light. Here you got 29 sec to reduce the speed from 125 km/h to 70 km/h and also 150 meters 500 Hz from 45 to 35 km/h. the high Mode with the 85 indicator light you got 23 sec to reduce the speed from 165 km/h to 85 km/h and at the 500 Hz indicator light 65 km/h to 45 km/h in a limited time before reaching the 🛑 Signal.
PZB Bridging... apparently allows driver to disable/release PZB emergency brake applications in some tunnels, bridges and other unsafe sections. True? I couldn't find much else on it. The many mysteries of German train procedures...
I think it's the NBÜ NotBremseÜ... it's nothing to do with the PZB. If a passenger or personnal member pull the emergency brake in passengers area, the emergency brake won't apply in some zones like tunnels, bridges etc... NBU inhibates (inhibition) the emergency braking.
@@Thorpe then the train driver has a routine/button to let the train ignore the emergency brake and manually when the train will stop in a good place for rescueteams or fire department. I only know DB fernverkehr (ICE/IC/EC/IC2) driving with this system because of the long tunnels.
Tutorial scenarios separate PZB and LZB Green run and chace yellows. Mastery class to both on. the easiest to learn is SIFA. also if you like to drive sand patch AC4400CW press [CTRL+Shift] + [numpad ENTER] to enable alerter
Helped me out thanks did a few runs without the brakes slamming on in the Ice and the Talent. Very rewarding going to get more German add ons. Is Munich - Augsburg a good add on?
Looks like an improvement over the Train Simulator implementation... But in terms of being able to drive a train on an unfamiliar route in Germany, it looks like a key aspect to that still isn't implemented. I mean, you can fake it due to other stuff in the game, but the thing is, from what I remember hearing you're not actually allowed to run the train if the route map system (forget what it's called) isn't functioning. And if it genuinely can't be fixed in a reasonable timeframe you have to go into the station building and pick up a printout of the route maps; The type they used to use before they had in cab computerised equivalents. These maps are critical because they tell you where stations and signals are along your route so you can anticipate them properly. This is also why the distance markers are crucial (another flaw in Train Simulator's german routes is how many routes are missing large numbers of distance markers) German routes usually have a distance indicator every 200 metres. Combined with a map that tells you where the signals, speed restrictions stations and the like are on the route, as long as you pay attention to the distance signs and know how to read your map properly you should never be surprised by what you'll encounter even on a route you've never driven before. And that is a major factor in WHY German train drivers can run unfamiliar routes compared to most of the world where you're only allowed to run a route you've had route-specific training for. Yet train simulator never implemented the in-cab mapping system at all, and often omitted the route distance markers, so it became quite a headache to do it properly. Doesn't look like TSW2 has fixed this. Though hopefully at least the route distance markers are placed reliably. (That at least allows the hypothetical use of paper maps.) Here's a fun test if you can find the information on how to do it properly; Find the official procedures for driving a train in a given country, then start the sim and turn off all UI, and see if you run into problems. I can bet you'll almost immediately have a problem with german trains, given what the procedures look like. Of course, in some cases you'd have printed documents in a real train, so without them you might not be getting the expected results anyway. But for a modern German train you generally shouldn't need them, because it's already accounted for in the computer systems... Yet all that does in the sim is show up which of those systems isn't actually implemented. Ah well.
I totally agree with you, but where'd you got the thing that German Traindrivers don't need route training - they certainly need it, it's called Streckenkenntnis, and there was also a big shitstorm that a few private freighter train companies let their employees drive on routes they were unfamiliar with
So what is the "befehl 40" for? I dont like the there are more details but they wont be explained... where is the explanation, i hate if i know it will do something diffrent because some details missing :(. Can you make a part 2 ?
The "Befehl 40" button consists of two parts. Once "Befehl" and once from "40". In short, 40 is simply the maximum speed with which the 2000 Hz magnet can be driven. Command (ger.: Befehl) comes from the command form (ger.: Befehlsformular), that is a piece of paper in which various orders can be given, e.g. drive over this red signal. Since you have to press this button when crossing a red signal, this is what it is called.
Why not add a tutorial scenario about these systems in the game? That would really help!
Exactly
Yeah. That would be really helpful. Without the signal thing on its bit of a gamble if the signal is for you or not
Because it's too complicated and would take a long time to learn these things.
Yes
So long like we are waiting for steam engines and multiplayer? 🤔🤣
Thanks Matt, great tutorial.

• white digital display (1:16:48, the white "4" above the signal)
Note: increase of speed limits are unlikely to have an advanced speed limit sign.
In any case, add zero right of the written number to determine the speed limit. Exception is the automatic wash; 5 is 5 km/h. Don't expect the train to be clean after zooming past at 50 km/h.
Thanks Matt. Excellent! Great info! Keep up the good work!
Top tip: "PZB Wascham" after you pass a flashing signal. Before the signal start reducing speed. If your speed is not within the restricted range in 23s, Zwangsbremsung.
Matt, this was a great help in trying to understand the German system. Has the team gotten your slides posted yet?
I absolutely love this style. I used to have to drive with the manual on my lap and pause at each signal XD. The tutorial is super easy to follow
This game was free in the epic store lately, I'm really impressed by the level of detail of both simulator and graphics ♥️
Thanks for the video. I was always put off German routes because of the safety systems, but this has helped so I'll give it a try
Matt, thank you for doing this video i really appreciate it since the game doesn't explain it at all.
I have always wanted to give it a go but i never really understood it, and hence my train would always slam on the brakes lol
Can you post a cheat sheet image of all of these signals? Or share your PPT?
Is their a easier way of opening and closing doors cause that switch is very touchy.
I've changed the keyboard settings to my likings for the doors...but still won't work.
So the speaking voices are in a different language...can I change that to English??
When I first watched this, I dreamt of being a Train driver in Germany. In less than 2 weeks I start my training at DB
Good luck my friend!
nicccee i hope you will always arrive on time
Ty a lot. Never used theses options, i'll work with now.
Great thanks from France.
The ICE 3M in this game is so much better. At the left display, you choose different voltages systems. I hope to see some Dutch routes in the future.
Who knows 😀 I saw in the roadmap that a Swiss and French route are in the planning, so maybe the "world" in Train Sim World will finally make sense. Sadly you can't acquire licenses from the NS easily :(
@@bjorngroen2724 yeah. TGV duplex is planned. Plus the EMD F7 is planned, one of the last few still running freight to this day.
@@ember_shep8181 Saw that too, both are interesting in their own way 🙂
Hi
what do i have to do in order to get moving when i got a emergency brake? greets from austria
Nice tutorial. I think it was time that someone did a more professional one. I did mine ages ago and really put no effort into editing or anything of the sort, but I was still surprised that quite a few people watched it. So the demand is obviously there.
By the way:
If you want to train PZB, I think the easiest way would be the new scenario editor. Make yourself a fast express service that runs the entire route with no stops, and put a train right in front of you that stops at every station. That should give you a lot to do with PZB, especially if you drive a fast accelerating train and give the AI something slow.
To quote the late Leonard Nimoy "fascinating" thank you sir.
Really good tutorial that had actually got me intrested in German signaling! Great job👍
Great video Matt, I'm pretty right with PZB but it was a good refresher.
What was the route mentioned at 1:08:20?
After watching this I’m definitely giving in a go 👍
There is one part on this route with the talent 2 and pzb I don't understand.
On the ICE it's always km/h, mph is basically unknown, and unused outside of the UK and the US
If the PZB system is not speed based why is it set to brake every time I enter a 120?
@@dbclass4075 I figured out that I didn’t acknowledge a flashing green and wasn’t slowing down fast enough.
This is now quite old, but it’s still very good. Thank you.
the tutorial is old but the signaling system, PZB and even the velaro family are much, much older so this tutorial will be relevant another ten years
Is the powerpoint available for download now?
Thank you now i can fully understand the signals and PZB
6:20 is when it starts
Great job. Demystified!
What I'm witnessing is that sifa is the German version of the aws system on the class 377/4 train in east coastway
And the non HST train on great western railway
Thank you for the knowledge.
Matt: I'll only cover PZB mode O, the passenger type
Matt 5 minutes later: You have to slow down PZB U trains on Main Spessart Bahn to 55kmh, wait for the 1000Hz light to go out and then speed upto 70kmh.
Will LZB ever work in Talent 2?
@@AndrazSpan-strojevodja you can class lzb and pzb as in cab signalling
Why is the LZB isolating switch modelled in the cab?
Hey! I was trying to drive the train, and when I tried to disable AFB, it didn't work. I did the exact things you did in the video.
To be sure:
• Throttle OFF or 0. Not MIN, OFF or 0.
• AFB level 0 km/h
• Brakes RELEASE
• AFB page (press 9)
• AFB Aus (press 1)
@@dbclass4075 I think I fixed it, although when I turned afb and throttle to 0, the train stopped even I disabled AFB and turned back the throttle.
@@GDArnis By setting the AFB to 0, it essentially commands the train to maintain 0 km/h, and will brake accordingly. Select AFB Aus first, before setting AFB to 0. As soon V-stoll...something is selected, tune AFB up.
Will mouse support be added for any console users?
Hello. i'm looking for the key to press for the battery. i don't find this information. Put on the battery is necessary when pantograph is in down position. If someone is having this information. Thank you very much.
Thanks Matt. Learnt a lot today.
Great video! Can we please see more of these for different trains in the future?
The optimisation on Xbox one X means the middle gauges go bleary in the ICE so you can't read what they are saying. I hope they fix this.
May I know the PC ver. key for check the sifa alarm?
@trainsimworld i tried the rolling start of AFB after the ENDE of LZB, but when i press 1 for AFB Aus nothing happens. im doing the snow and ice scenario. what happening here?
when you press AFB Aus nothing should happen because AFB is already off after LZB
what you need to do (if you're on ICE3):
throttle to 0
AFB to max (so when you enable AFB it won't slam on the brakes)
on AFB screen softkey 6 for V-Soll Freigabe (basically free target speed)
i believe AFB won't turn on with throttle above idle
Anyone can explain how to recover from pzb if i overspeed or didnt acknowledge?
Thanks Matt. Learned a lot. North American signalling please
How do you reset the emergency brake?
Thank you Matt its been a month since I turned on any Safety Systems in TSw and now i cannot enjoy any other trains now..........
I'm driving this now while watching and I absolutely cannot tell if SIFA going off is in my train or Matt's.
Did the powerpoint ever release?
Please do the tutorial for US signalling also.
Great video! Learned a lot with it.
You've been a great help. Thanks.
@@poopsonlavega Yes but what if the PZB pulls the emergency brake in a zone like that?
@@Thorpe then the train driver has a routine/button to let the train ignore the emergency brake and manually when the train will stop in a good place for rescueteams or fire department.
I only know DB fernverkehr (ICE/IC/EC/IC2) driving with this system because of the long tunnels.
Can i have a link for presentation?
When still the Signals dont work right anf also the Speedlimit lines inside the game the PZB dont works right.
LZB or non-LZB sections?
What is your going fast and you’re gonna touch the platform how fast you go
Hi how can I change the field of view for tsw4
Tutorial scenarios separate PZB and LZB Green run and chace yellows. Mastery class to both on. the easiest to learn is SIFA. also if you like to drive sand patch AC4400CW press [CTRL+Shift] + [numpad ENTER] to enable alerter
Helped me out thanks did a few runs without the brakes slamming on in the Ice and the Talent. Very rewarding going to get more German add ons. Is Munich - Augsburg a good add on?
Get. This. Into. The. Bloody. Manual xD
Still relevant! Thanks for a really thorough and useful tutorial video ;)
Great tutorial Matt how about one on overlays on PC I have the option to config but nothing in the window to select ?????
This is also why the distance markers are crucial (another flaw in Train Simulator's german routes is how many routes are missing large numbers of distance markers)
German routes usually have a distance indicator every 200 metres.
(That at least allows the hypothetical use of paper maps.)
Here's a fun test if you can find the information on how to do it properly;
Find the official procedures for driving a train in a given country, then start the sim and turn off all UI, and see if you run into problems.
Ah well.
I totally agree with you, but where'd you got the thing that German Traindrivers don't need route training - they certainly need it, it's called Streckenkenntnis, and there was also a big shitstorm that a few private freighter train companies let their employees drive on routes they were unfamiliar with
when you have to acknowledge PZB ?
Thanks for vid! Very useful!
Nice video!!! It really helped thx a lot!!!!
could you do a english signalling tutorial now that SEHS is out.
It is easy mate....
Really good tutorial thank you
"When you pass one of these LZB signs" Matt pointing at his picture there covers the LZB sign😅
what the hell i never knew this safety manual thingy even existed. where do i find this in the game i have no idea what pzb or sifa is
Would love to see a KVB and Crocodile tutorial for TVG and SEHS.

Does German train drivers in real life use the AFB when driving?
They do, especially at LZB routes. It's very convenient.
Thank you for this
That's funny, I'm a German train engineer and I never knew any of this. 🤷♂️
Wait you are aloud to drive with safety systems off?
