Harmon McCraw in my (not professional) opinion, a lot of baekhyuns mentoring and vocal growth happened after his debut. listening back to old performances you can easily see where he used to make mistakes or approach things incorrectly resulting in like a 50/50 success rate when he tried more complicated stuff. and even though chen had a similarly short training period, I’ve never seen anything like that from him. So it makes sense to me that Jonghyun, a damn near PERFECT vocalist, would not pick the kid who still needs a ton of help and practice for a powerhouse duet the whole point of which is to showcase vocal prowess. To me, chen is just the obvious choice and even now that baekhyuns singing has a 100% success rate i still find chens delivery much more resonating in terms of emotions and just general... aura i suppose. he radiates an easy confidence that i really enjoy and assume jonghyun did too
