No. Just put larger tires and a small lift on the raptor and it will hang right with the ZR2. At least the Raptor comes with 4.27 gears from the factory.

I checked out the Colorado 'Bison' and Canyon 'AEV' at the Orange County auto show. My takeaway---the GMC interior and seats were nicer than the ZR2. Not sure why they left off the Multimatic bump-stops on the GMC. Great review!
The 5.3L only exists at this point because they sandbagged the 2.7L turbomax by giving single optimized tune at 87oct, and the 5.3L still loses in torque, which is what trucks are about. If Chevy decides to counter the Ranger Raptor's new performance tune by releasing a 91--93oct tune for the 2.7L, the 5.3L becomes more of a joke.

I went from 400whp/480wtq BMW inline 6 to the 24 ZR2 with turbomax. That 2.7L hasn't left me feeling like I'm missing power for a second. It is effortless.
I drove one to after owning a 420 ft-lbs F150 that weighed 6400 lbs and was on 35's. The 2.7L does not make the power or torque they claim. Go look at countless videos of it in towing and acceleration reveiws and it just doesnt do what it should for the power and torque they claim.

@@jaredmeche6325 no, it was a 2014 with the 6 speed. And again, it was 6200 lbs empty and had a fiberglass leer topper so it was pushing 6500 lbs, so 1500 lbs heavier than the ZR2 I test drove. And it was on 35’s vs the 33’s on the zr2. So no, I didn’t ignore anything. The ZR2 should have had a huge advantage in torque to weight ratio. Look at how it got walked by a 2.3L Ranger at TFLtruck. And how the 2.7 sucked towing on Getty Adventures while the 2.7EB towed like a locomotive(while towing over its max rating I might add. ) The engine DOES NOT perform how it should based on its specs. I was very excited about this truck until I test drove it. Then every video i've seen reviewing it confirms what I felt in my test drive.

GM needs to up the HP and trq with these higher end trucks…..maybe go to a v6 turbo engine. Especially for that price….no way I’d pay that for a Colorado 35 inch tires or not
So, yesterday and today, I literally went and tried out the 2024 Tacoma, Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, GMC Canyon and Jeep Gladiator. Now I'm not grossly overweight, but I am a relatively big dude and the only 2 that had comfortable seats, that didn't pinch the sides of my thighs, were the Toyota and Jeep. Comfort trumps everything else, especially if you commute 44 miles each way to work like I do. The other manufactures need to get away from this "race car like seat" trend and go back to truck seats!! Oh, and the Jeep had the most back seat leg room, followed by the Ranger and Nissan.
@2011buddylee I'm talking about the actual seat cushion. The only one's that didn't pinch the side of my leg were the Tacoma and the Jeep. For whatever reason, they do not make contact with the plastic at the base of the seat, which is the problem with the GMs, Nissan and Ford.
The zr2 bison looks so much better than ranger raptor. He has more of a bad a$$ truck look and feel. I have driven both and I choose the bison. They both have +/- but this truck has so much more cool stuff… plus. I liked the suspension better on this vs the RR.
For that price I would rather get the Ranger Raptor add the Ford tune putting it up to 455 hp and almost 600 torque. Small lift and 35 inch tires and still have a few thousand left.
You'll never notice the difference on the road between the 2. The Bison will go places the Raptor can't so it doesn't matter if the Raptor gets there first.

I love the looks of the Chevy but the RR is by far the better do everything truck at a better price point. I got over the looks and my tuned RR does almost everything better than the GM product. Minus cooled seats and 35’s, one of which can be changed, you get way more bang for your buck with the ford. If you rock crawl every weekend then the ZR2 is your truck. If not, you’re wasting a lot of money.

How is the Bose Premium Sound System? That's one thing that will help me decide if this is the vehicle for me...especially when comparing it to the Raptor and Tacoma TRD Pro.
@@2011buddylee thanks for the input. The JBL sound system in our Toyota LC First Edition is simply amazing..so I figure it would be just as good on the Tacoma TRD Pro. I haven't heard the B&O yet, but their home line of speakers are great. Bose has always been garbage in the home audio/theatre area. I just wasn't sure if that carried over to GM vehicles.
I have the Colorado zr2 bison with Bose and came from gen2 raptor with B/O sound. The Bose sounds good but sometimes my left speaker will vibrate my entire door with high base. Had this with my B/O too but not as bad as with the Bose. They are close comparison but I think the B/O was slightly better.

It’s funny how turbo diesel engines are notoriously long-lasting, but people shit all over similar engines that run on a different fuel. Makes no sense.
None of the hood bumps on any of the Chevrolet trucks hurt visibility, unless you're under 5 feet tall. Unfortunately, the interior space is horrifically lacking; if it had the same cabin space as the ridgeline, it'd be perfect - save for the lack of electronic rear window control as well as the nonsensical and dangerous headlight controls being routed through the touchscreen. I didn't experience the "floaty" feeling myself; it felt tight and responsive to me, but to each their own.
Is the brake pedal still 10 inches closer to you than the gas pedal like other GM trucks? Always hated that. I still think the Raptor is better in almost every way, but the chevy and caynons look nicer.
Everything about the Chevy Colorado ZR2 is great except the gearing. I know it has 430 pound ft torque and does just fine but putting the same gear set in your Flagship Off-roader that you have in your base 2WD model is not very smart when you’re trying to cater to dedicated Off-road enthusiasts. I know Chevy has to meet economy standards and all that but they could have at least put 3.73 in that would better than the punny 3.42. As far as the engine Chevy needs to drop the 3.6 back in there only this time with a Supercharger like they have in the Cadillac Blackwing. That would blow Ford and the Ranger Raptor completely out of the water
Every Chevy Tahoe we use at work has had to have the engines rebuilt..... Every..... Single.... One (over 40 total), and they are only a few years old. The service manager we deal with has said that even he wouldn't buy a Chevy. Hard pass......
My last GM vehicle was a 2015 Colorado. The transmission was dangerous. It would suddenly downshift going around corners; one time up in the mountains driving 65 with traffic on a steep downhill it shifted down two gears to 50 mph. Almost got rear ended. Pulled over. Tried again, down shifted violently. Pulled over, turned truck off. Started again and by that time I was most of the way down the mountain. At 27,000 miles, two years old, traded it in for a Subaru. No problems now. GM has two class action lawsuits against it for the eight speed transmissions in trucks.
With all the soft touch material on the doors and dash and a leather wrapped steering wheel and the seats this is just a glorified pavement princess . . . especially woth 3.42 gears trying to pull 35's . . . no wonder it only gets 16 mph . . . it needs at least 4.11 gears and thr Trail Boss interior if you wat a real off road truck you can actually use and clean up

I love my Colorado WT. That Turbomax engine is crazy smooth and strong. Did 0-60 in 7 seconds yesterday.
I have the Colorado WT as well. So glad I didn't pay extra for all the frills. It's been my favorite vehicle I've owned so far.

I've heard the Bose upgrade is "mid" as far as upgraded systems go. That being said, the standard seems to be the better end across that tier.
