    If you don't want to mess with soaking a string and using paper clips to push it down through the wax, you can use a birthday candle. Take a pen or a pencil, burrow a hole into the wax, and push the birthday candle into the hole. Instant wick.

      Sounds good, but you will soon have the same situation again. The wick in cake candles is too small to support a large enough flame to make the melt pool big enough to reach to the glass so the wax round the edge never melts.You either need a larger wick or multiple cake candles. If his candle had been given a larger wick when originally made, it would not have burned down like this.

    If your candles start to “tunnel” like this one did, (burn straight down the wick) once you start to notice it’s doing that, just wrap a little aluminium (tin foil) around the outside of your candle. It will generate more heat and create a perfect melt pool. 👍

    Game changer! Where have you been all my life? Given the candle type and the amount of wax I had I could not use your exact technique. Instead, I ended up melting the wax and then transferring it to a small glass jar. I had no idea that my regular kitchen twine could serve as a wick. I now have a perfectly serviceable candle in a trendy mason jar. I should probably post a picture on pintrest or something. Thank you.

    BIRTHDAY CANDLE! I melt the wax and let it cool. Once solid I use a wood chopstick to make hole then insert birthday candle(s).
    Another benefit is the flame won't extinguish as easily. When I DO want to put it out I put on the lid. No fire without oxygen.

    If you have a candle warmer, it can also melt the wax down given enough time. I had gotten one as a way to use up the last of the wax in a candle. When I saw that it would melt all of the wax, I started combining candles (of the same scent). The candle warmer will even melt an entire large jar candle eventually. I found this video because I was looking to see if anyone knew if a new wick (for making candles) would stay on the bottom or float up if the liquid wax was already in the jar.

    I needed to replenish my stock of candle jars and was able to find plenty of used candles in my regular search for old tools at the car boot sale. These cost from a few pence, up to £1, and some were given free. Some folks place no value on them, but just don't like waste. In all, yesterday, I collected just over 12 pounds of wax for well under a fiver. These will all be made from different wax blends so I would not trust them as pillar candles, but for Jars they work just fine. I try to avoid scented candles, but hey it is cheap wax and you might get some strange scent mixtures.. I found a HUGE candle a while ago that weighed 11 pounds [5kg] for which I paid the exorbitant sum of two pounds !

      I guess In theory you could use twigs. Anything that keeps a steady burn I suppose . But you want to be careful with man made products like coloured shoe laces because they are often treated with chemicals that will be toxic if they burn. As long as its not artificially treated it ought to be safe

      It doesn't take wax long to dry. It dries as soon as it starts to cool. A full brand new jar would probably dry in like 1.5 to 2 hours. If that. So a used jar definitely wouldn't take this long. So whatever you gon do, you need to do it fast.

    Will the scent stay the same? Can we combine scented candles?
    Also, can we microwave it to melt it (provided that the container that the candle is in is microwave safe)

    • @MegaSafetyFirst
      @MegaSafetyFirst  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me the scent stayed the same so far.
      I’m not sure though what will happen when mixing candles with different scents - never tried that.
      I wouldn’t try to heat up the wax in the microwave for two reasons. There may be metal at the bottom of the wick. And the wax might create gas bubbles, causing the wax to disperse all over the microwave.

      Also, I combined strawberry scented and cranberry scented candles yesterday, and the smell of the cranberry one seems to have overpowered it, but i can smell hints of strawberry as well. I think if we use the right amounts, we can actually blend their scents into one candle. I was using traditional stick candles so the wick at the bottom would not have any metal. But I will be mindful not to heat it in the microwave.
