Those Zombie girls dolls are actually really cool. The doll stand having their grave stones is genius lmao. Definitely not for kids though, the concept reminds me of living dead dolls but a more kid friendly version of that (and not nearly as cool). If they were the same quality as monster high and were even more morbid and aimed at older teenagers and adults they could go very well.
I'd say if you missed one, it's Equestria Girls. My Little Pony suddenly getting a human fashion doll brand baffled fans of the show at the time. I thought they came across as a cheap imitation of Monster High. Though I loved the Equestria Girls articulated "chibi" range, whatever that was called. Shame their heads weren't hollow, which would have let them stand on their own. I don't remember which came first - those or the Monster High vinyl chibis. Novi Stars probably deserves an honourable mention, since they launched after Monster High, they're aliens and there was an attempt to make webisodes. While they definitely had their own unique look and weren't trying to cash in on confused parents looking for Monster High dolls, I think what you said about Bratzillas could be true here - Novi Stars might not have existed if it wasn't for Monster High. Also, I just stumbled across your channel and am rather enjoying it. As for future video ideas, would love to see one about Lammily :)
Equestria Girls totally slipped my mind somehow, but you're right. As much as I enjoyed the movies, I did always think it was a bizarre way of cashing in on the trends at the time. The minis were GREAT though! I wish they would have been able to produce more of them.
@@DarlingDollz Even if the original EG Dolls were probably worth like a Dollar store doll. Their quality went up as the years went on. The last Dolls had the quality of the budget Cut Ever After hight, even a Little Higher

I actually love zombie girls their designs were pretty unique ? I like how they have reference a bit of lore with each of their deaths I know it’s a bit morbid but I like their character design!

Ughhh sameeee I saw a sleeping beauty in a store once but it was way too expensive so obviously could get it :( maybe one day we’ll be able to have them
I really, really love the zombie girls line. I’ve always had a big love for zombies and I love vintage/decade themed designs, so seeing the decade themed zombies is such a cool concept to me. I don’t mind the design too much, though I definitely think it could’ve been Improved. These dolls actually are giving me major character design inspiration, I might try and find some old MH dolls to customize into dolls based on these soon!
Once Upon a Zombie actually has a "sister" brand named Fairy Tale High, growing up I thought it was inspired by Ever After High but they came out before EAH was a thing I'm pretty sure.
I absolutely adore Bratzillas, they’re adorable and I love the eyes, the whitewashing was a huge issue, but I’m really not surprised knowing how doll companies are, I’m glad that the community as a whole is pushing for better representation, and honestly I love concept for the zombie girls, they’re cute and morbid, if they had marketed more towards older doll fans and were a bit higher quality I’d bet they would have been successful
The Zombie Girls definitely could have benefitted from higher quality, and an older older target audience may have helped but I probably would have been obsessed with them as a kid anyway. As for Bratzillas, I still have my Meygana and Jade dolls, and while they're kind of a mess after spending their years in storage and certainly don't compare to my pre-reboot monster high dolls (specifically when it comes to clothing quality) in my opinion, their bodies and faces still look very good and their eyes are really something you don't see often. Such a shame they didn't last.
Ngl, it could be interesting to see adapted into an animated series aimed at a slightly older audience. Maybe teens or so. You can play around a lot with the different decades and how each character’s death matches the era they’re from. Hell, maybe have one from the 2010s who can’t remember how she died. And is freaked out that she’s- y’know- a zombie. The other characters have come to terms with their untimely ends, and they could help her try and figure out what killed her so that she can have a peaceful afterlife. Idk. Just a thought.
Bratzillaz are GREAT! And tbh I prefer them over MH, even tho that might be cuz of my love for Bratz... Something I didn’t like about them was the whitewashing of Yasmina and Sashabella🙄
Honestly, I always wonder how it would be if Bratzillaz were able to run for a few more years 🤔 Maybe they weren't selling that well, but quality and design-wise they were for sure on MH's level. If they put more effort into their storyline they could have really shaken things up I hate the whitewashing too, and the fact they were able to get away with it by claiming these girls as the cousins of the Bratz. Such a dumb contrivance tbh.
same, I used to watch the episodes on yooutube, unfortunately the dolls were never sold officially in my country and the resellers would ask a lot for them. edit: Also, as a proud latina, yeah the whitewashing was really bad. I've always liked Yasmin mainly cause of that.
Always loved them way more than MH personally I found MH's fashion to be kinda tacky and Bratzillaz as more fashionable and beautiful with their glass eyes and porcelain doll look.
The Zombie Girls actually sound super cool and they look pretty interesting too. It's a shame they didn't have more success, they could have been great with a higher budget and even a series of their own.
This is such an interesting video! I kind of miss the period of time when the doll market had new lines like these popping up. While they are very obviously MH inspired, a lot of them are very cool! Especially Bratzillaz, I so wish that I'd picked more of them up when they were released. They're so expensive secondhand. I think there's room for lots of Freaky Fab dolls!
I’d be careful when talking about Bratzillaz, some crazy girl in the comments of my video where I talking about once upon a zombie, she started threatening me and stuff cause she thought I was hating on Bratzillaz even though i wasn’t.
All these goth fashion lines, including Monster High, really owe their existence to Bleeding Edge Goths which were fashion dolls that had limited articulation. It's fascinating all these dolls you have shared, I have never seen any of these on a department store shelf (except Attractionistas of course). Who knew the doll industry was a tough venture.
I believe the mystixx art was actually recolored stuff that had to do with the bratz line which would be why they’re way prettier than the actual dolls 💀
i think it's kind of eerie those zombie teens came w a tomb with the date of when they died??? like very original but?? these teens are dead?? space pop seemed like it could have been much more. thank u for uploading!
@@mental_decay_ Also. Don’t forget that Draculaura used to be alive too, before she was turned into a vampire to save her life from the same illness that killed her mother. Monster High was no stranger to death, that’s for sure. Ffs the main character is made out of corpse parts.
When I was younger I was so hyped about Monster High, I still am. I thought they were too expensive to ask my mom for them, so I loved them in other ways, night clothes, bed sheets, I'd watch the online series and watched the movies whenever it came on Nickelodeon.
ngl i was waiting for novi stars- i was a huge og monster high fan and i remember all my classmates making fun of them for being a monster high knockoff but i thought they were so cool
even though bratzillaz clearly were trying to be like monster high, they were actually pretty dope. i have Siernna Calmer (which for some reason i renamed to witchly?? maybe cuz the line was called witchy princesses so i thought that but i have no clue, i have a feeling my mom came up with it or something, who knows lmao) and shes gorgeous. i dont have any of her accessories anymore i dont think but the actual doll is pretty good quality
When I saw the once upon a zombie dolls in stores when I was younger I was scared the shit out lol. The small series for once upon a zombie was so scary as well but now that im older I find the concept really cool. Their designs and whole zombie aesthetic were very gruesome and definitely not kid friendly. It would definitely be cool to seem them make a comeback for older audiences and experiment more with the zombie princess concept.
Ok, but does anyone remember Novi stars? They were this alien doll line from I think 2010? But they could have been before monster high. They had a webseries and I remember attempting to find the dolls second hand. I’ve literally never heard anyone else talk about them, but they were definitely a part of my childhood
I remember them!! I had one and I don’t remember her name, but she had pink legs with blue glitter in them that moved up and down like a lava lamp when she walked. I had a “pet” too, which looked like a robotic cat and came in an egg-like carrying case.
I really like the concept for Mystixx I just think it wasn’t well executed. Also once upon a zombie sounds like a cool concept but I wonder how far could have they taken it
if anything while i loved MH, i absolutely loved Bratzillas but my two older sisters definitely loved them more so than me because they adore halloween content and while they loved Monster High themselves they preferred bratzillas purely for the witch aesthetics, inset eyes and the outfits.
I'm actually kinda obsessed with Zombie Girls, and Once Upon a Zombie and I loooooooooooved (and still love!) Bratzillaz even if they might've been controversial lmao!

Great video. I'm currently only half heartedly in the doll hobby, and I had no idea there were so many great monster high inspos. As always you give a great amount of info about each brand, doll and line!
I saw the Disney dolls and I was like “Oh she’s cute! when i was a kid i didnt even know bratz was a legit brand 😩 My first encounter with them were the bratzilla dolls, i thought they were just some knock off monster high line like every other doll at the time 💀💀
The once upon a zombie dolls are actually amazing quality and they were super cool, i still have my rapunzel and Snow White dolls, I’d love to get the others because they’re actually really cool!
Relatable After I saw that video with Rapunzel saying the slogan I vowed to never watch OUAZ again Now that I'm older I'm less creeped out and I plan to try to get the Rapunzel doll off EBay
I had a Bratzillas doll growing up! I still have her today and its cool how my favorite dolls from this list came from that line. I always wondered what my doll was because I wanted more to like her. Shes missing an arm because she was the white and yellow Switch-a- witch that i might have gotten used but i could have also lost it myself. Either way it's so cool to finally learn about this mysterious doll I've had for so long!
I remember seeing Once Upon a Zombie in Toys R Us and thinking they looked cool. I'm super disappointed they didn't make a Peter Pan doll. He's my favorite but now I really wanna read the books I'm hoping to find them on amazon
I saw this video and went and bought a five doll lot of the Once Upon a Zombie…It’s so cool!!! The TH-cam clips really sold it for me, the quality and cuteness of them ~ altho some ppl said it scared them as kids 😂 I wonder if it would’ve scared me 😆 anyways thx for the new collection I have now 😳😳😳
the SpacePop line also had a book series which was much better than the webisodes or the dolls, i believe it went deeper into the backgrounds of the characters?
my mom really never let me get bratz as a kid but i actually was aloud to get the bratzillas??? i had 3 dolls & they were so beautiful! thanks for reminding me of them omg
Inspired? HA! More like, "We saw how much money you're making Mattel, so we stole your Idea and made versions that little kids will waste their money on thinking it's the original." Ah, yes. The truth.
Man I would have loved Once Upon A Zombie as a kid. Belle with a Halloween element would’ve been my jam! I asked my mom if I would’ve gotten one if I knew about them, she said “I didn’t like Bratz, why would I get you a zombie??” 😂😂
i have a second hand doll from my friend and i finally know where she’s from she’s my favorite she’s apparently named jadore and looks just like the pink hair girl on the thumbnail i don’t have her outfit but she’s so pretty i’m glad i finally found where she’s from
The inset eyes on the once upon a zombie look amazing. (Don’t mind me commenting years late I’m busy watching everything related to monster high I can find 😅🤣)
Omg i totally forgot about bratzillas! i remember shading my friend for having one and not monster high (which i was a die hard fan of ) but looking at them now they're really pretty and i wouldn't mind owning them now
Wait hold on I think I remember Bratzillas but only the Cloetta doll for some reason, her half and half aesthetic is pretty cool, and honestly the switch-a-witches also look super rad
Once Upon a Zombie and Bratzillas actually look so good. OUAZ looks very distinct from Monster High but with similar aesthetics that it doesn't look like a blatant rip off and as for Bratzillas i may just be super biased because I loved Bratz growing up and I adored Monster High in my early teen years, so mix the Monster High aesthetic with some well made Bratz dolls and I'm in love
The Zombie Girls dolls reminds me of the anime Zombie Land Saga a bit, which is a pretty good anime, really campy and doesn't take itself too seriously
My daughter Elizabeth has the horse toy for bratzilla and the black pink white hair Bratzilla doll on the left side of the picture i don't know if she has any other ones
The only one I remember of the list is bratzilla. Like it flipped by I remember watching the show. Like I didn’t know it was inspired from monster high makes more sense now
1. I had the Bratzilla with the purple hair when I was younger and pretended that she was a Monster High student. 2. I love the Attractionista dolls!!! I have the Haunted Mansion girl and am asking for the Pirates one for Christmas. BTW, does the Carousel girl look like a HM ghost or the Tower of Terror doll look like the Usher from HHN to anyone else? 3. I remember seeing those Once Upon a Zombie dolls in Toys R Us right next to the Monster High’s. Those freaked me out as a kid and they still kind of do 😆 4. As someone who used to be a Winx fan, I’m surprised I never saw those Zombie Girls. I don’t think I would’ve liked them when I was younger, but I’d totally get them now. Their backstories and tombstones remind of the Haunted Mansion or Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios.
I loved Once Upon A Zombie and Bratzillaz. I never had any of the OUAZ dolls, cuz I was unemployed at the time, but I always wanted them. Still do, but they're expensive now.
I feel so bad, because when I was a kid I didn't appreciated Bratzillaz, and now I really like both Bratzillaz and Bratz, but I would've preffered them to be original characters than their cousins.
Holy - THATS WHERE THAT HALF CAT HALF DOG THING CAME FROM???? Lord all mighty, we found it at a second hand store years ago and it was so weird we ended up getting it, the dog half meowed and the cat half barked when you pressed their respective buttons. I had no idea it came from anything like this lmao.
I LOVE Mystixx. I wish people wouldn't hate on them so much, I know they aren't very good quality, but I think they're gorgeous. Would love to get my hands on one someday.

Right??? I kinda want them 😳
Yeah as a former ldd collectors knowing how the dolls died just really awesome
I agree
dude i would have bought those girls ngl
The zombie girls concept of different decades it's really cool , but the designs feel very poorly and cheaply made
Kinda reminds me of the anime Zombieland Saga, all the girls were also born in different decades
Bratzilla's really said the girls where the cousins of the original girls but left Jade's name the same.....ah yes Jade and her cousin Jade...
Right? 😭 Like why did they even bother?
Well to be fair alot of the men In my family are named ray so cousins having the same name isn’t that weird

It was my understanding that the inspiration for Equestria Girls came from Hasbro noticing the numerous fan art and cosplays fans of the show/toy line created that reimagined the ponies as humans. I've noticed that when it comes to My Little Pony (and Transformers) Hasbro tends to be very receptive of the fandoms wants and desires (I think this attentiveness can be traced back to the 1987 Transformers Movie when Optimus Prime died and hundreds of fans wrote to the company expressing their displeasure. Something about the name Nemonia is really funny to me
Once upon a zombie terrified me when I was younger-
Relatable
After I saw that video with Rapunzel saying the slogan I vowed to never watch OUAZ again
Now that I'm older I'm less creeped out and I plan to try to get the Rapunzel doll off EBay
I’ve watched this video at least 5 times, and I still always die laughing when you say the girls name is Snakey 😂
Honestly only one's I'd ever seen in store was Once upon a zombie and bratzillas and I was constantly looking for monster high back then.
Ok, but those Once Upon a Zombie artwork and designs are beautiful, especially Alice.
Miss you original monster high dollies and movies :")💔
people need to make more characters in general with unique blush colours like the zombie girls. God it looks so good
Some of these concepts are actually pretty cool
I had a Bratzillas doll growing up! I still have her today and its cool how my favorite dolls from this list came from that line. I always wondered what my doll was because I wanted more to like her. Shes missing an arm because she was the white and yellow Switch-a- witch that i might have gotten used but i could have also lost it myself. Either way it's so cool to finally learn about this mysterious doll I've had for so long!
i would have also included novi stars tbh! but ughhh i actually really like a lot of these lol i def wanna get some bratzillaz
The TH-cam clips really sold it for me, the quality and cuteness of them ~ altho some ppl said it scared them as kids 😂 I wonder if it would’ve scared me 😆 anyways thx for the new collection I have now 😳😳😳
I was obsessed with that fandom an I literally cried when I realized it was coming back in 2022
the SpacePop line also had a book series which was much better than the webisodes or the dolls, i believe it went deeper into the backgrounds of the characters?
Yeah. For some reason they cancelled it before the shorts
I loved once upon a zombie !! And actually really interested in zombie girls sunny burns and mya spirit !!
7:22 But do they have the X molded in the backs, though? That's what I'm curious about.
Disney has to remember that Fairy Tales are in the public domain and no one can legally own the concept of fairy tales
underrated channel
my mom really never let me get bratz as a kid but i actually was aloud to get the bratzillas??? i had 3 dolls & they were so beautiful! thanks for reminding me of them omg
I remember in Mexico I saw once upon a zombie stuff everywhere. Even notebooks! Memories...
WHO HERE WANTS BRATZILLAS THE SPACE PEOPLE ONES AND THE ZOMBIE GIRLS? I REALLY DO
OMG! I have 2 twilight teen dolls! I forgot what they were called. I did love how they had articulated ankles. And they’re actually good quality :D
I'm surprised Once Upon A Zombie didn't get sued by Disney, considering they basically used the same character designs.
Inspired? HA! More like, "We saw how much money you're making Mattel, so we stole your Idea and made versions that little kids will waste their money on thinking it's the original." Ah, yes. The truth.
I had the first Once Upon a Zombie book! I always wanted the dolls, but they were too expensive :/
Man I would have loved Once Upon A Zombie as a kid. Belle with a Halloween element would’ve been my jam! I asked my mom if I would’ve gotten one if I knew about them, she said “I didn’t like Bratz, why would I get you a zombie??” 😂😂
i have a second hand doll from my friend and i finally know where she’s from she’s my favorite she’s apparently named jadore and looks just like the pink hair girl on the thumbnail i don’t have her outfit but she’s so pretty i’m glad i finally found where she’s from
1:30 THE HELL ARE THESE THINGS
The inset eyes on the once upon a zombie look amazing. (Don’t mind me commenting years late I’m busy watching everything related to monster high I can find 😅🤣)
Omg i totally forgot about bratzillas! i remember shading my friend for having one and not monster high (which i was a die hard fan of ) but looking at them now they're really pretty and i wouldn't mind owning them now
Once Upon a Zombie seemed like such a great idea. I would have loved where they could have taken it
Once upon a zombie dolls are gorgeous irl
one you missed was capsule chix, they have simlilar porportions but they may have not been related enough to talk about
“7 doll lines inspired by monster high”
the new monster high dolls
I use to have a bratzillaz doll and i really adored them. do i want them back, yes
I remember seeing knockoff Monster High dolls in a Fingerhut catalogue years ago, but I don't remember what they were called
I didn't know that the attraction dolls were a thing, and now I want them all.
Coletta
Those freaked me out as a kid and they still kind of do 😆
With spacepop you have mistake, it has 7 seasons but only season 1 and season 7 are avaible on ytb
The Bratzillaz song slaps so hard
