Africa isn't all of the world. In countries like India Anime isn't that popular as if isn't streamed on TV and most people believe that Anime is for kids and is just a cartoon which of course isn't true
Anime is actually extremely popular. The main thing is it's not as WIDELY available on the popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and others and people watch anime mostly through piracy(not that I blame them) . So they don't make that much money.

Maybe you are young, but if you started watching anime like 10 years ago, naruto was one of the most beloved shows and aired for more than 10 years, in the same level of popularity of one piece, a lot of people where introduced to anime through naruto, one piece and bleach. And there where a lot of fansubbing groups that subbed weekly those shows, before everything became legalized as of now with crunchyroll and company.

I just love how One Piece initially was nowhere to be seen, and then slowly climbed the rankings throughout the years to end up in the top 3 consistently. Not bad for a show that was deemed as "dead in the West" (that claim was always BS, it was always popular in Europe, heck, here in the German-speaking countries, OP is way more popular than Naruto... it just played catchup in the US). Seriously, that series is now a top 3 show, and the Manga has now outsold the Batman series to become the #2 highest-selling comic book series, only lagging behind Superman. That doesn't happen if a series is "dead in the West". Good to see that that rhetoric can finally die for good (looking at Naruto fans). You love to see it. Also, hell yeah, AoT deserves the current #1 spot.

I have watched One Piece till 'Marine Ford Arc and I can clearly say that the anime is overrated and most of the fans are immature. Ngl, I only watch OP because I fell in love with the manga, and manga was 100% better. The anime adaptation is very poor and the art style are bizzare and mediocre. Yes there are scenes where the atmosphere is very dark and lonely but whereas the character's eyes and mouth are too big for the emotion, and exxagerated facial expression. I love One Piece manga but One Piece anime is just made to 'milk' these immature fans. One Piece anime is a disappointment, no wonder the 'Manga' sales and the 'Animation' sales do not match. OP manga is the best selling manga of all time and the OP anime is not even on top 3 most watched. I'm gonna expect some OP fans to be triggered, as you should. I think they would go up on both. Dragonball, One Piece and Naruto are easily the 3 most popular anime of all time. A lot of there fanbases dont even use MAL. Not to mention popularity is kind of pointless on MAL because people will purposely downvote shows with out even seeing them. For instance AOT S4 received a lot of downvotes recently from FMAB fans because it passed it.

I just love how One Piece initially was nowhere to be seen, and then slowly climbed the rankings throughout the years to end up in the top 3 consistently. Not bad for a show that was deemed as "dead in the West" (that claim was always BS, it was always popular in Europe, heck, here in the German-speaking countries, OP is way more popular than Naruto... it just played catchup in the US). Seriously, that series is now a top 3 show, and the Manga has now outsold the Batman series to become the #2 highest-selling comic book series, only lagging behind Superman. That doesn't happen if a series is "dead in the West". Good to see that that rhetoric can finally die for good (looking at Naruto fans). You love to see it. Also, hell yeah, AoT deserves the current #1 spot.
in the early 2000s it was dead in the west, to be specific in the U.S. it wasn't really a know show by many, they only anime most people knew back then was Naruto or DBZ.
I have watched One Piece till 'Marine Ford Arc and I can clearly say that the anime is overrated and most of the fans are immature. Ngl, I only watch OP because I fell in love with the manga, and manga was 100% better.
The anime adaptation is very poor and the art style are bizzare and mediocre.
Yes there are scenes where the atmosphere is very dark and lonely but whereas the character's eyes and mouth are too big for the emotion, and exxagerated facial expression.

First statement anime isn't recieved well in the west there are a lot of good anime which don't get recognised aot is good and popular but last 10 years there was a huge technology bloom in terms of anime industry connecting the west which was setup by big 3 so aot got that added advantage with being a good show with that so many feel it is over rated and it's their opinion you can't control people's opinion right (•‿•)
