    5/6/23 Just came across your videos. I watched 2 so far and you addressed the same problems I had today after coming back from one of my first rides this season up here in the PA Poconos. I bought this 2009 Tri Glide Ultra after not riding for 4 years and felt embarrassed by the little problems I was having. Thank you so much. Love your down home style and southern accent. Most of all, thank you for your service to our country. I subscribed and I am looking forward to more helpful hints.

    Hello Ed, Dan Merlin here from up here in Nova Scotia Canada, just bought my first 2017 Tri- Glide, and had the same issue within not even 20 miles down the Hwy, my Trunk lid kept popping open. I done your fix when I stopped and had the chance, and the rest of the ride was problem free. I am a Canadian Vet as well, and would like to thank you for your Service, and most importantly for your help and advice. Thx Dan

    Thanks Ed, same problem with the trunk not closing without a fight or holding the button and pushing it closed as you mentioned. I oiled the button and the sliding mechanism, I figured Harley got the adjustment correct and the button was just hanging up, a couple of shots of PB Blast and it’s smooth as glass now!
    Thanks for posting and sharing the secret!

    Thanks Ed, my 2020 Ultra Tri Glide trunk lock never worked properly 12:08 . The lock finally completely fell apart, push button cylinder came completely out of the trunk. I did research and this is another customer complaint by Tri glide owners ( bad design cheap lock Harley cut corners on part- lock- customers should expect more for $40,000 ) I had to completely remove the lock mechanism to fix it …and be prepared to take 6 hours or more to fix it and if you pray. The c clip that holes the entire lock on trunk came out and to put it back was a nightmare. You actually have to use a mirror inside the trunk to remove lock and put c clip back in place. You should never have to slam the trunk to have it secure. It now works properly but knowing it a cheap lock main parts are plastic not steal no doubt will break again. Drive safe and thanks for the video. Spenc USMC Veteran

    Ed, thanks for posting, I had the same problem with my '19 Tri-Glide, didn't adjust the pin just lubed everything up with white lithium grease works fine now. A friend on ours had the same problem with hers and the grease took care of the problem also. Now when I wash it or get ready for a trip I give it a shot or two of the grease. I tell everyone with a Tri-Glade that I talk to about the problem and the solution. I also talked to my service guy at my HD shop but he didn't seam to concerned.

    Thanks so much for the heads up! We've been slamming our 2021 trunk lid since we got it a month ago. We were a bit concerned because we watched some friends lose some of their stuff on a long ride a few years ago, lol. This is our first trike and were SURE weren't looking forward to dealing with the same issue! Thanks again for takin the time to make this vid!

      When my wife and I picked up our 2021 TriGlide, the salesman showed us that to close it properly you must;
      1. push the release button first.
      2. then close the door.
      3. Release the button.
      4. Always check that it's latched.
      5. To never slam the door in trying to latch it.
      We've had it for only a couple of months now and never a problem as long as we followed his instructions.
      I will be sure to lube it up once in a while.
      Ed thanks for the tips you share.

    My old 2010 TriGlide was bad about the trunk door opening going down the road. On the 2014 TriGlide I ride now wasn’t as bad but still opened a few times until I started using 3 in 1 oil on the button that opens trunk. The rubber seals around trunk doors on 2014 and up were made thicker because the older models leaked water around them.

    • @TriGlideEd

      Good morning William. Here is what the owners manual reads on how to lock trunk: " To lock trunk, insert key into barrel lock and turn one-eighth turn counterclockwise. Return key to center position and remove. Push on barrel lock to make sure that trunk is locked." William this is what is written to unlock trunk: " To unlock trunk, insert key into barrel lock and turn one-eighth turn clockwise. Return key to center position and remove." Take care, Ed

  • @ironheadtri-glidetrunklock7731
    @ironheadtri-glidetrunklock7731 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes you can adjust and it will hold for a while. But it will wear out and the door will pop open again. It’s physics. Metal against metal. There is a new lock on the market the finally fixes this problem. Look up Iron Head Tri glide trunk locks on TH-cam and face book for more info.. A lot of people say oil it. When you oil. You are oily wetting the seal around button..it does nothing to the latching mechanism. Look up video exsplains why all tri glide locks will fail.

    nice video, came across it looking on how to change the tumbler lock for the trunk rather having the stealership do it. on like the 3rd or 4th one now mine is a 2012 model, most of the stealerships when mention about it, common answer is it's a design flaw. think i will see about the lube and adjustment then take to stealership have put in tumbler since takes a special tool and gives mechanics a slight problem. going to have check out a few more of your vid's, i see ya be a shipmate. i retired after 24 yrs reserves in 2012.

    In addition to the lubrication and adjustments, we added the Retractable Trunk Door Tether. If the door ever comes unlocked, the door tether will hold the door in the upright position so items will not fall out. Part Number: 53000237. Well worth the piece of mind.

      @COACH Not at all. Using a 4MM Allen, remove the upper lanyard screw and then the door lanyard screw on one side. The screw has a captured nut so, the screws will just back out. Install the retractable tether to the top of the door frame with the screw you just removed. Pull the loose end to the attachment on the door and install with screw. Tighten to 48-72 In-lbs. Repeat on other side.
