My 900 SE was in a shed for just over 12 years, till last summer. I put in a new battery, staarted first time (even had 12 year old fuel in it), and drove it to a garage for an MOT and service...passed, now a daily driver!
Great cars these, my Grandfather bought on of these new for his 84th Birthday, and I used to drive him to the Heath Hospital in Cardiff to visit his girlfriend when she was in there, as a bit of a long drive for him on his own, great drivers cars. He had a 900 prior, and stuck with Saabs after years of BMW's prior, and luckily had a 900i when he was 93, as his last car when a driver pulled out of a side junction right in front of him and almost took the front of the car off. He reckoned any other make, he'd ha e been killed and he took it as a big hint to give up driving (not long prior, he'd been in the front passenger seat of his Son's Volvo Estate, when a lorry pulled out to overtake right in front of them, Auntie driving, my Mother and kids in the back, all got put without a scratch, lorry driver exited the lorry through the windscreen had minor injuries and recovered OK. I think Brandad thought, really lucky twice, next time no luck left, so he retired from the business as well. Shame really, he'd been driving since 1914, and had never had an accident, never took a driving test, and got grandfathered in for a driving licence, same for a Pilot's Licence from the RFC in WW1. He was one of the best drivers I have ever been a passe ger in a car with tbh. RIP Grandad. Got a bit fed up at 97, after his girlfriend died, all his WW1 pals gone, so checked out early. Joined RFC at age 16, gunner in a two seat fighter, survived his pilot Chum getting killed, and became a Bomber Pilot, and post WW1 Iccupation Forces in Germany, where he had more fun than anyone was entitled to according to him. Fond emories I must admit. Best wishes. Bob. 🤔👍
My brother worked with a lad who stuck his Dad's auto 900 in 1st instead of reverse. Wiped their garage wall out and then drive it to work. So I decided a Saab would be the safest thing for my young family. My 1st 900 was a rare G reg 4 door saloon. One owner, fsh, barely run in, all for 600 quid. Bought another 11 Saab's after that. Decent ones are quite rightly fetching decent money. Will be watching your channel with even more intest than before. 👌
What a car, when I was a little kid this car in this colour and spec was what I drooled over. She’s going to be spectacular when given a thorough detail. Looking forward to these videos great find James you lucky so and so.
Wow, great content. Saab 900 turbo convertible. I used to have the 3 door hatch, sadly not with us any longer. These are absolutely incredible on fast roads, especially when turbo kicks in at 3000rpm. Solid as a rock, and built to last. Great find, please do not sell. Keep it and bring it back to its original condition, make plenty of videos work your doing to it. Look forward to the next one on this car. Thanks again.
Using easy starts a bit dodgy on old cars mate, it creates a very violent explosion, better just with a bit of petrol chucked in, put it in gear, jack it up and gently rock the wheel, saying no water in is a good thing (?) it just means it's leaked out somewhere. With you having a lot on I'd just get it running, clean it up and sell it as a running driving project for an enthusiast.
Great stuff James, pleased your still putting out plenty content, other channels have dropped a day or two which is disappointing, you probably get a few new subscribers
That car is a great spec, it has the desirable airflow bodykit and directional aero wheels. The fuelpump and crankshaft sensor are common faults with these engines.
If its a typical Saab it won't be ther clutch it will be the gearbox. Mine started to go at 58 000 miles so I traded it in quickly. Apart from that it was a great car. Good Luck Chops
This was some car in its day. Always liked the old school Saabs, and hold them in very high regards. I'd choose one over contemporary BMW and Mercs all day long. Great cars, and a great manufacturer we've now sadly lost. Brilliant find James. Well done for saving it.
Hope you checked for four legged lodgers 🙂 whip the plugs out fog the pistons /bores for a couple of days before turning the engine over manually .Brave to do it that fast with god knows what state of fuel James
Of course it started, it's a SAAB. I had a lovely 99 auto and a 900i 2 door coupe (Inca wheels on the 900i) and many happy miles in both of them. I'm looking forward to seeing this one develop as it get the Chops treatment.
Little mist of oil in the cylinders, pull the plugs, pop in 5th gear and raise wheels off ground and turn by hand to get the engine to turn over and see if it is possible. The brakes don’t look like they seized.
What a stunning 🤩 car I remember These cars from back in the day they was fast 💨 What a find if you got it cheap enough you should definitely do a restoration series 🎉 and keep it.
Great car, I own one. The ‘aftermarket’ thing is oem Lucas (the dark Prince) and the two red wires you point to are to do with the aircon - they are there even when you don’t have air con for some reason. Rust is predictable what kills these cars, every thing use power bullet proof.
One of the largest Saab specialist in the country, Hagstrom Saab is just down the road from me. They are super helpful and have most any part you could imagine. Might be worth getting in touch with them if you need something obscure.
Love the barn find Saab James and look forward to seeing more content on its revival. Love the cheap turn around videos, any feedback on dog car Astra.
Went all over the country in my friend's Saab 99's. He had a few before they went GM, he then went BMW and hated it (so did I) Ironically went Vauxhall as their top of the range was cheaper than Saab, sad times for a once great car maker.
Had a black 99 3 door turbo - what a beast. Watch out for rodent damage on the wiring, eg under the fusebox. How much are you going to do on it before selling it, assuming it doesn't add to your ever increasing personal collection...
Nice barn find James,as you normally never have much time for any of your other projects I don't see this one getting put back to original which is a shame and don't think it would be viable for you to pay someone to do the work as they are nit worth a fortune all singing and dancing but look forward to see what your plans are with it🙂👍
I dont understand why would someone leave it parked for 12 years ? why not just sell it 12 years ago and get the few grand it was worth ? Anyway i hope you can restore it back to its former glory James , just be careful as parts are not easy to find for Saabs.
Looks just like mine, but mine is cleaner, and your steering wheels on the wrong side! Can’t tell if it’s black or blue with that dust. Didn’t catch the year, ‘92?
If you need any parts for that Saab specialists neo brothers might be able to help parts are hard to get for them I had to buy a hole car for parts for the one I had years ago absolutely loved it went onto a 95 2.0 turbo then a 2.2tiddi don't buy the cheap after market parts off eBay for it also if you need any advice Adrian at ab autos crediton is a Saab specialist he trained with Saab st David's when they closed he opened his own garage can't speak high enough of him
I would of definitely blown out the spark plug holes before putting loads of WD40 in there because as soon as you release the plugs all the debris will drop into the bores, not a good move in my opinion.
Another car for James's restoration shop, or just to be parked up when you've lost interest (about 2 days mate) I can see you having a yard full of rotting 80s,90s cars tbh bud.

Great story!
Wow

Really looking forward to future installments on progress with that Saab 900 Turbo now. Bob. 👍
Pretty cool. I love these barn find projects.
I’ve owned cars which I would celebrate getting it running after being stood for 12 DAYS 😂😂😂

Can't wait to see this cleaned up. Thanks for the video
That is one car i want to see cleaned and polished ,these were amazing cars a true saab in its origin, not a fiat in disguise like the 9000.
They were basically vauxhalls at that time aswell.
My mechanic had a 1987 Saab 900 Turbo and it had a lovely exhaust note if I remember correctly
Using easy starts a bit dodgy on old cars mate, it creates a very violent explosion, better just with a bit of petrol chucked in, put it in gear, jack it up and gently rock the wheel, saying no water in is a good thing (?) it just means it's leaked out somewhere. Once classed as the fastest road car, very good example…hopefully, someone will have it and love it and give it the care it deserves
Great stuff James, pleased your still putting out plenty content, other channels have dropped a day or two which is disappointing, you probably get a few new subscribers

Saab 900 Turbo Carlson...... Dream car!!!

Yea I love Saab 900 someone needs to bring the brand back 👍
Hope you checked for four legged lodgers 🙂 whip the plugs out fog the pistons /bores for a couple of days before turning the engine over manually .Brave to do it that fast with god knows what state of fuel James
Was my dream car from many years ago...can't wait to see what you do with her.

My uncle had a load of Saab's when I was growing up. Nothing as fancy as a turbo convertible. Usually a red or brown 5-6 year old dogeared example.
This my favourite upload that you've done ✅ keep up the good work!
Looking forward to seeing how the Saab turns out.
Little mist of oil in the cylinders, pull the plugs, pop in 5th gear and raise wheels off ground and turn by hand to get the engine to turn over and see if it is possible.
The brakes don’t look like they seized.
What a find, looking forward to next video and seeing it clean. Always liked this model Saab. 👍👍👍👍👍
What a stunning 🤩 car I remember These cars from back in the day they was fast 💨 What a find if you got it cheap enough you should definitely do a restoration series 🎉 and keep it.
A proper SAAB. I have a dozen all together.
I've got 3 - 1985 900i 1989 900 t8 special and 1998 93 convertible 👍
Looks really good for its age, gem of a find I think, especially with such a low mileage.
I’ve always wanted one of these, and hopefully this year I’ll be able to finally get one.
Lovely old motor. Looking forward to seeing the restoration progress
These Saabs have got a proper kick up the arse turbo boost
Great car, I own one. The ‘aftermarket’ thing is oem Lucas (the dark Prince) and the two red wires you point to are to do with the aircon - they are there even when you don’t have air con for some reason.
Rust is predictable what kills these cars, every thing use power bullet proof.
Saabs have always been great looking convertibles, great find 😀😀
What a beauty. Do I feel another James toy coming?!
Awesome find what a legendary car
Lovely Jubbly video James, but when are you going to get that UP finished and up for sale matey?
Beautiful car.....don't worry about parts...plenty of specialists out there
One of the largest Saab specialist in the country, Hagstrom Saab is just down the road from me. They are super helpful and have most any part you could imagine. Might be worth getting in touch with them if you need something obscure.
Loving this car……,can’t wait to see it clean
Love the barn find Saab James and look forward to seeing more content on its revival. Love the cheap turn around videos, any feedback on dog car Astra.
Great upload James 👌👌absolutely love this type of video mate.
Love it 👍 I have 2 saab 900's a 1985 900i 5 door and a 1989 900 T8 special
Went all over the country in my friend's Saab 99's. He had a few before they went GM, he then went BMW and hated it (so did I) Ironically went Vauxhall as their top of the range was cheaper than Saab, sad times for a once great car maker.
Remember the late 80s early 90s show called The Paradise Club. The Main Character Leslie Grantham ( Dirty Den From Eastenders ) Drove One. Great Cars.
Great video! Looking forward to the next one. Be nice to see that Saab with a new lease of life
Cheers
Really looking forward to this one James 🙂👍👍👍
wow thankyou James this really is going to be excellent content, some memorable memories are coming back seeing the saab, have a good week,,,👍👍💪
Cheers Stevo
Love a Saab , great video
Excellent content James - this is going to be a good series of vids.😊
Cheers
A Chops garage barn find. It had to happen at some stage. And what a nice car it is.
I enjoyed the reference to the great film that was "Deliverence"
Great survivor car. Nice one, James! 👏👏👏
My last comment on an ad video “I miss car vertical” and you only went and brought it back 😀.
Lol
Technically that tow truck body is called a beaver tail 👍
Looking forward to a good detailing video James.
love those old sabs I had one years ago would be keen on newer GM ones
I would stay clear of the Saab's built under GM's ownership the quality and reliability started to suffer.
Had a black 99 3 door turbo - what a beast. Watch out for rodent damage on the wiring, eg under the fusebox. How much are you going to do on it before selling it, assuming it doesn't add to your ever increasing personal collection...
Saab Master in Torquay would be who to speak to as well 😉
Great video
Do like a Saab 😀Looking forward to seeing the next video on it 👍😊
Super Car. Apart from the Fiat Coupe, probably the best classic you've bought.
Bit of spit and polish and the James Chop's Garage treatment and this Saab will be as good as new and ready to retail.
Nice barn find James,as you normally never have much time for any of your other projects I don't see this one getting put back to original which is a shame and don't think it would be viable for you to pay someone to do the work as they are nit worth a fortune all singing and dancing but look forward to see what your plans are with it🙂👍
When's the house furniture VW Up going to get sorted??
I wish the real Saab was still around they made such cool cars
She’s a beautiful one I love my Saab and love yours
Love these
Great watching
This is really interisting!
This is going to be mint!
What a great car
JAMES you have to do a series on this .
What an amazing 👏 find it will be a classic surly 😠 A very happy James l would have thought
Afternoon James
Is that engine a re worked Triumph Dolomite motor?
Quite a heavily reworked one - but yes it has its roots in the Triumph unit.
I believe Triumph and Saab developed the engine jointly. Saved costs for both manufacturers and resulted in a gem of an engine.
Proper fast thing that!
Nice original car for me
I dont understand why would someone leave it parked for 12 years ? why not just sell it 12 years ago and get the few grand it was worth ? Anyway i hope you can restore it back to its former glory James , just be careful as parts are not easy to find for Saabs.
Looks just like mine, but mine is cleaner, and your steering wheels on the wrong side! Can’t tell if it’s black or blue with that dust.
Didn’t catch the year, ‘92?
The perfect raffle prize!
Ooo. This is gunna be good 👍
be nice once cleaned
Before running it much more I would do an oil change..cheap oil just to clean the engine and ensure that it's properly lubricated.
Oil change is next before run again
Jack it up put it in gear and then spin the wheels to turn it over you'll get to know a bit more and less messing about.
It will made a nice car when done 🚗🚙🚘👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Brilliant
If you need any parts for that Saab specialists neo brothers might be able to help parts are hard to get for them I had to buy a hole car for parts for the one I had years ago absolutely loved it went onto a 95 2.0 turbo then a 2.2tiddi don't buy the cheap after market parts off eBay for it also if you need any advice Adrian at ab autos crediton is a Saab specialist he trained with Saab st David's when they closed he opened his own garage can't speak high enough of him

Was cleaned out before plugs removed
Sarb is now Scania sarb went bust a long time ago
Why is it funny that those two chaps are from Wales?
Could it be something to do with their love of sheep
It’s crying out for the chin spoiler that some (most?) had. Looks a bit chinless without it.
That probably went south when it had it's mild bump 20 years back
Interested in the Audi convertible how do I contact the seller please ?
07846357656 Mike
Please invest in some lighting , watching this video was like the black hole of Calcutta ? 😮😮
Pull the engine out and give it to home built for the micra 😂😂😂
Cat cars are valued so low now, put my sons cat s 16 plate xe jag in wbac, came back at 1600 quid, cat cars are waste of time these days.
interested in the convertible if you can put me in touch
Not for sale bud
Another car for James's restoration shop, or just to be parked up when you've lost interest (about 2 days mate) I can see you having a yard full of rotting 80s,90s cars tbh bud.
Not sure what I'm watching anymore, I'm guessing you're trying to branch out from a car sales to something else!.
Time will tell.
