Your new guards look great! The brush guards were the first addition I made to my DR650. Right after breaking off my clutch lever in a drop. I realized that I needed to protect that lever. I bought inexpensive guards that were a bit difficult to attach possibly because I slightly tweaked the bars in that same drop. I didn't know anything about the task and I wish your great tutorial had been available to me at the time. Thanks for helping the community.
Another useful video Dino. The barkbusters are a bit of a challenge to fit but you have clearly discussed and shown the things to look for. The finished job look is good. Thankyou
Good stuff Dino. You always produce a professional well edited instructional video. I really enjoy your conent and the effort you put into your channel is really paying dividends 👍
Re removing the old clutch side guard. On the 2018 models at least the acorn nut on the top is not actually a nut. It's a bolt. And on the bottom there are two nuts. One of which hides under the plastic guard. You have to lever off the bottom of the guard. Undo the second nut and then pull the bolt which locates the clutch lever out and remove the guard. I didn't spot the second nut under the plastic for a time and scratched my head for a while.
Hey Dino! Thanks for the shoutout. I look forward to seeing how effective they turn out to be. I want to say that your videos have started an itch to become a little more handy in general, and to get a DR650 for some off-road adventure riding.
Thank you for all the feed back, its viewers feedback that not only keep me motivated but provide great video ideas. I am really glad the content gives you some ideas, the best part of life for me is to learn new things and have new experiences or other facets of a hobby you already have. Have fun and remember, sometimes you need to scratch that itch. Dino
Well done as usual Dino. What ever brand we choose it is good insurance. The last thing I need is broken fingers or knuckles swiping a tree while out riding. I'm 62 and dont heal as quickly these days. I Have a DR650 but also a Little Honda XR200 which has BB's as well. As I said on the last post. "Next step Heated grips" LOL. I look fwd to your next vid. Ride safe my friend. Dave
I have the real barkbusters and the ones for the DR are a "universal" set from them and I seem to remember having to figure out the best way to fit them to the DR. So even the "real" ones have no or basic instructions with them. Good video as always.
Great video, I did the same as you fitting the guards, however I hot glued the plastic spacers on to the brackets as they were fiddly and kept falling out. Cheers from nz.
That was good timing Dino, I just ripped the old hand guards off my DR and plan on installing something more rigid this weekend. I changed the bars this week and used the same risers you used from Bush Pig Performance and they look great. Hopefully the install will go as smoothly as yours did. ps. A handy tool for any job is your phone camera, I took pictures of my controls this week before I took the bars off so I could put them back on the exact same way, easy to put a line under instead of over etc. Anyways have a great weekend Dino
Well my installation didn't go as well as yours, the attaching hardware does not line up but I can return it where I got it and try another route on Monday.
Interesting video. I've bought some excellent quality tools from China. Thanks for sharing. PS. Stainless steel will produce white sparks from a grinding stone.
Great feedback, and yes I own many tools from China as well, in fact most people do, and they are mostly of a high quality at least for home use like myself. Great tip on the spark color. Dino
Hey Dino! Great video as always. Think that squirrel is yelling "Subscribe!" Haha! Never knew they made that sound🤣. Nice handguards they fit the color of your new handlebar really well😁. Cheers!🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♂️
@@DinosTinkerShed haha Yes we always get really excited to see the squirrels!! You're right today our first video of Emma riding on the DR got published😁😁. Hope you enjoy the last days of the riding season!😁 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♂️
Forgot to mention, the shims that came with my Acerbis Guards, I got 8, 4 for 7/8" bars and 4 for 1 1/8" tapered bars. Glad I read the instructions because if using tapered bars there is a correct direction for these shims to face. It is hard to see unless you are looking for it but the wider ends should face towards the outside of the handle bars as they taper smaller as you go outward. Mine fit snug with no space to be seen around them. Just thinking if your bars are a knockoff they might have this same taper on the shims?
That would interesting as I have noticed a bit more vibration after fitting hand guards and removing the weights! ( how to refit suzuki weights back on ! )
Replacement shields for my Acerbis handguards are $32.95 (U.S. retail) ... so your guards are a steal. Not sure you can get replacement shields for yours ... ?
Knowing how to move the controls to fit new grips and hand guards, priceless!

Thank you Dave, wise words about the fingers for sure. I am still looking into the grips.

Very interesting, I would have thought they would have included instructions. Thank you for posting the information.

Looks great Dino. I got the real bark busters on my DR, but nothing wrong with finding value. I reckon they will do the job. The red does pop!
Thank you for the feedback! ya I am liking the red theme as well.

great gift idea..
Lol, I think they come in yellow
Your intro had me laughing!! Thanks for another great video!

Could you do an update at a later time on how different the vibration is without the huge factory handlebar weights.
That would interesting as I have noticed a bit more vibration after fitting hand guards and removing the weights! ( how to refit suzuki weights back on ! )
Yes of course, thank you for the feedback. I am expecting more vibes for sure, how many will be interesting to see.

Just ordered a pair!!! Now to get new bars.
Thanks so much.
I thought I saw Carls bike on Kijiji. Did he sell?
You saw correctly, he has not sold it, I think he is just getting the itch to try something new.

Do you have a link to the guards? I am in the market.

Thank you for the comment, I am not sure if there are any replacement parts but I am sure you could mod any other guard to fit if you had to.
