    Thanks for the explanations. Though I'd have to say there is so little glass in a small smartphone camera lens compared to that in a full frame lens (I would say the amount of glass needed is less than 1/1000 of the amount used in even an APSC lense). So, I would argue that the glass in a smartphone can (and probably) is purer than that in a FF lens because 1. Less glass (gramwise!) Overall means manufacturers can make purer glass with less cost. 2. The smartphone cameras produced require stringer constraints on the glass (due to their size). 3. They are produced at higher numbers, hence making them far more affordable. That being said, I do agree that even using glass with the same quality/purity in a smartphone camera lens leads to far less image quality due to the smaller size.

      Yes, but it also needs to be significantly better, as the photosites on a cellphone camera have to be significantly closer together than on even one of the smaller mirrorless sensors. Just look at the number of MP being touted on a cellphone camera and the size of the lens compared with that of a typical dedicated camera.

      @@SmallSpoonBrigade Yes, I'd mentioned that already. The number of MP is another story though.

    Great information Dave. Well done. ps. what are you doing with your hand when you keep moving it to the side of the chair? I thought it might be a remote for changing lights, etc ?

      Phones sometimes use a 3d depth map as part of the face unlock ability. It's also somewhat helpful in using a cellphone as a 3d scanner.

    Yep... now we just need an interchangeable bug eyed lens to clip into our Sony’s, or whatever, to give us that authentic phone picture experience. 🤣

    they just need better sensors in them. 2MP for macro? 12MP for a super wideangle? 10Mp for a telephoto? yet the standard wide lenses have up to 100MP, and 200MP are soon incoming! Imagine the detail in a 12Mp macro shot, a 50MP superwide or 100MP telephoto one?? That would be some serious cameras!

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most phones with the high res sensors pixel bin by default.
      Mine is a 64mp main, 8mp wide + 5mp macro - but the main has 4 to 1 binning to produce 16mp
      You can enable 64mp mode but only records jpeg and is actually less detailed than the 16mp set to raw
      Although the new Xiaomi 12 pro 3x 50mp cameras - 1x ultrawide, 1x wide & 1 telephoto

      The solution isnt to design superior multiple sensors for the secondary, tertiary, etc lenses, its to make all of the cameras be able to use the higher quality main image sensor. The first manufacturer who can design a phone camera like this that would still keep its ergonomics would probably corner the smartphone market.

    I honestly dont get why are phone companies are turning a communication device into a camera ??? Why ?? Who give a flying s....t about a decent built in camera ?? I have a decent camera why would i need another in a phone ffs ?? I want a phone that i can just contact others and dont need to waste electric charging it for hours ( maybe solar charging )
    A decent screen .for watching movies .a decent signal wherever you are .wifi included ! Proper waterproof sealed just in case its dropped into water unlike most that boasts they are waterproof when they are not and its just a marketing ploy, one thats completly indestructable and not made of glass like most are and just break if they are dropped .. Even from a height of a foot ..,one that will last me at least a lifetime. Before is starts to get as sluggish as a snail forcing you to take out another mortgage on another fragile P.O.S.!!!!! Thats what i want from a phone ...
    This wasteless society and selfie mad " ooh ive gotta spend thousands in a new phone all because its got this ,this,this and f.......g this community that has no sense of the value of money " have no idea ..
    The old nokia phones were in my view the best phones .. You could play football with them and they were still working and usable ..i cannot get some rich ass person spending over a grand on a f......g phone .. My car cost less than that we live now in a totally waste less society ..
    Its disgusting !!
