The snafu with the fan installation is exactly the kind of grief us casual handymen encounter when doing some 'simple' work around the house. You guys were great in diagnosing and fixing it.
Don’t you think it would have been better to have contacted Bigass Fans to come out and fix their own fan? Seems like that would have been the smarter move to save a warranty on a $2000 fan! IMHO…
You guys were too nice to the big ass fan company You made it look easy and all in all that probably took you over 2 hours of work climbing up and down that scaffolding again Big ass fan company needs to give you a big old kiss 😘
BigAss Fans better send you one for the house for fixing their QC issue. It should have never left the factory with that tape click. Awesome job and great picks for the lights.
A couple of points: I wouldn't be surprised if the assembly line workers wear ear protection; and using tape is a terrible idea as it may have not been making that noise after assembled, but changes in temperature during shipping and sitting before installation loosened its grip, but also what's to prevent it from loosening over the years, especially from the heat of the motor. As mentioned in the video, the tape's securing the balancing weights...could you image them doing that to your vehicle tires (though I don't recommend you take your fan off-road 😂)? They need a better way to secure them.
Can’t believe how great everything looks. That paint scheme, black windows, and the big exterior sconces are 🔥. The Big Ass Fan inside is the chef’s kiss!

After confirming with the owners I got to meet your son too! It was cool to have my TH-cam world collide with my real world. One day I hope to meet you all! Keep up the good work!❤
Looking good guys! It's kinda cool having followed this build right from the start and seeing the progress made! Jordan, as a fellow smart-home enthusiast, you should look into an open source project called Home Assistant. It basically will take all your light bulbs, and other smart devices, and put them together. The talk about having the lights turn on when your team wins the game could even be automated! I use the Phillips Hue bulbs too, and I've since got rid of their base station in favor of just going directly to my HA server: just cuts out one more thing that COULD go wrong.
Guys, you are awesome ! Appreciate yourself and enjoy your time together like son and father - that's the best. Greetings from Europe, from little country called Slovakia. I am looking forward to see your next videos :))
The quality of big a fans is typically top notch. I'm surprised there was an issue, even though it was super minor. My guess is that they would have replaced it for you, but I then we would not have the satisfaction of watching you do it yourself. The house looks fantastic with all the lights!
I got a great deal on a "dead" vacuum cleaner for my house, turned out the crimp connector on the power cord failed. Swapped it for a wago and it's been solid ever since.
They get a lot of hate from old school electricians, but when wiring up lighting, particularly rooms with a ton of recessed lights, lever locking wagos are the way to go. You'll save your hands from a ton of wear and tear trying to twist all those wires, and you won't be sweating over whether that one stranded to solid wirenut connection was good enough or not.
@@hochhaul IMO it should be code that any stranded to solid connection use a wago style connector. Wire nuts are supposed to be not a connector, but a cap over already twisted and bonded wires that are robustly connected independent of the wire nut. But obviously there is no way short of soldering to bond stranded to solid wire.
Getting passed every stage in a project is always nice but there might not be anything as satisfying as finally seeing a place lit up at night. Well done guys. Congrats.
I thought FOR SURE, when you put the fan back up and still heard the noise, the camera was going to pan over to Rad making the noise... Looks awesome all lit up!!
You should really consider sealing around the outside lights. Not so much for water proofing, but to keep insects from being able to build nests in those cavities.
@stevewayne3676 He's talking about the fixture where it mounts against the wall and he's very correct, ants, spiders, wasps, bees, earwigs, ladybugs, wood beatles and other insects love to nest inside the fixture bases and electrical boxes.
I was wondering why you would skip something that is so simple and cheap to do, and could save you from so much headache down the road. Also kinda curious why you didn't just add the 2 extra screws to the top of the front light fixtures, since that's where all the weight is going to leverage.
Very cool episode of the build. Good to show the ups and downs of the process. These projects rarely go smoothly, but it's how you handle the challenges that makes you a good builder.
Brilliant marketing by Halo (pun intended) to work with you guys. After seeing you guys use and install Halos, showcasing their engineering and product options, they're now my default choice for lighting.
What an amazing accomplishment so far. I got goosebumps watching you turn on the main power and seeing the house lit up. Jordan, you must be extremely proud so far. Looking forward to the next episode. Great job on the massive, err big ass fan.
An interesting thing about Wagos is they actually have a hole in them on the top for test points for your multimeter leads. By positioning them upwards with the wire coming out towards the ground, you will get water in this test point. But I am pretty sure they are wet-location rated any way so it's a moot point. Show off that test point thing in a future video if you haven't already, it is super useful for taking safe measurements on established circuits.
Hey Paul, you’ve undersold yourself saying those front sconces are the biggest lights you’ve ever installed. The gas lamp on your 26th video way back in the day must take that crown 😜. Love the content guys, keep em coming. Thanks.
I love that you guys include the mistakes in your videos. Great to see I'm not the only one that these things happen to. Also nice to see how you correct some of the issues in ways I didn't think of. Keep up the awesome work and videos!
Looks really awesome, guys!! Well done! One small tip that I really liked was to mark the layout of the lights on the subfloor...great idea, even for smaller rooms. Must feel great to have that done...great work, gents!
You almost hung the outdoor sconce upside down 16:46 that’s why the factory 8-32s broke :) I recommend priming the device screw hole with a stronger screw first, then install it with the truss head screw. Keep up the good work, men!
Love wagos - had to replace a post lamp fixture, and the post has an receptacle, so lots of connections. Video on the scaffold was giving me vertigo! Impressed that you fixed the click in the fan - the fan company needs to do some QA.
I'm an electronics engineer, and I was very impressed to see conformal coating on the Big Ass fan circuit board. This is not a common thing, but it protects against moisture. The PCB layout looks well done. I've used the same Wi-Fi microcontroller module on some projects. Nicely designed product!
Excellent! So... I hope your coming back behind them didn't *actually* void the warranty. But, I am glad that you got that tape noise knocked out. And, the garage lighting looks great! (Now... I'm old. I understand the young whippersnappers like variety in their colors. Me? 2700k is about a colorful as I like my lights. Just a nice, warm... almost incandescent light. That's me. Thanks again for sharing the adventure with us. I'm loving it.
Much the same here except for the kitchen, there we both prefer full spectrum. For my porch light I have 6000k and 100W equivalent, I want to be able to SEE what is outside the front door.
Looking at the warm light showering the entire inside of your garage with your exterior color palette looks just absolutely STUNNING. Love to see all these videos and how 'simple' the fan fix was. On a side note, Since you're having a combination of Philips Hue (I've got about 20 in my house) and Halo with Wiz, I highly recommend planning on adding Home Assistant to your network stack so you can control everything and get all the Wiz stuff on your Apple Home app as well. I've got a combination of Hue, Govee, Nanoleaf, Wiz, my local (Ubiquiti) cameras, all visible/contrallable through both Home Assistant, as well as (via Home Assistant) Apple Home. Would love to help you with any setup questions, though the /r/homeassistant subreddit would certainly be able to help you out more specifically. Love the vids, keep it up, it's incredible to think of how little time it's going to be now before you're all moved into the garage.
Man I sure wish yall would get handrails for that scaffold. I know you think you’re careful enough that you won’t fall but I’ve been in construction for 40 years and I’ve been on jobs where people have fallen and not gone home. Think about how it would affect your wife and family members if you did fall not just emotionally but financially. Hand rails are cheap go pick some up.
We hear ya Steven, but there are dozens of videos we have where the safety railing is installed. When it's not on there's usually a good reason, in this video it happened to be the safety railing collided with the finished ceiling. Had to just be careful.
Jordan only on the scaffolding when no railing. If he falls, he’ll already be home. Some giant crash pads would be pretty awesome. Just don’t miss. A lot of incentive riding on that goal.
isn’t his house next door? he could crawl and roll home.. JK. the older I get the more accident I see and realize how no one plans for accidents to happen.. which will happen but what matters is the severity. all we can do is minimize risk!

Have garrage doors arrived? It was about 3 weeks ago, and you said delivery was around now. I'm looking forward to seeing the building getting closed in! Awesome job.
I installed a pair of these on a large patio porch, the assembly kit is amazing from them. The fans are NOT cheap by any metric. Too bad they shipped it out with that tape loose. Likely, it will come loose again. Tape doesn’t like being free from the backing long without being pressure fixed to a surface. Cool build.
I’m am Electrician, installed 2 fixtures for a realtor client of ours. Each fixture was north of $3000. They were ugly, but she picked them. - I once swapped a fan for a fan on a 12 ft ceiling. The carpenter that installed the ship lap did not install the bracket that holds the fan. It almost took me out!
Great job on the halo lights. With LEDS the sky’s the limit with colors. Like Paul I’ve done my fair share of fan installations. I love those BAF’s I wish my house ceiling was tall enough to install one like yours. Keep up the good work. I’ve been watching your videos well over a year now and gone through the start of this project garage. It’s a great accomplishment
I just wanted to see how many people would trash talk the Wago connectors. Lol. There's always at least one guy, that knows a guy, that says they are dangerous. Never first hand. They say "they wear out, and create a short causing a fire". Well, don't constantly move them around to wear them out! I like them, myself.
Used around Europe for a long time and made by a reputable company. I've used wago products in commercial control panels for years. I agree with you wholeheartedly.
We've noticed a big change even in our comment section in the past 4-5 years! People used to trash em... then they actually got their hands on some.. 😂
@@StudPack I like the 415's the most as I do a lot of 2 wires. But they have a straight through that is nice too. You can a splice wire that was cut too short.
As as Europen I will never understand this "fear" of Wagos in the US. They are used for decades over here and nothing burned down. btw I only see the Wago 221 lever nuts in Videos, dont you have the Wago 2273 in the US for solid wire and 224 for lamps?

The quality of big a fans is typically top notch. I'm surprised there was an issue, even though it was super minor. My guess is that they would have replaced it for you, but I then we would not have the satisfaction of watching you do it yourself.
The house looks fantastic with all the lights!
LET. THERE. BE. LIGHT!!!!! Whooo hoooo!!!!! Looks so cool guys!! Great job!! 😎👊🏽💪🏽 🔥
Love Wago's.
I have even used them for just electronic projects as well as electrical work. I haven't used wire nuts since I got these.
This is only the garage 🤦🏻♂️ a lot nicer than some peoples houses great job 👏🏼👍🏼
Gotta give it up to Jordan. He hit it out of the park with the overall design choices. The build looks fantastic!
Man what a great milestone!! Huge impact! 🎉
It’s awesome that you and your son get to do this together. Every son’s hero, his dad who can fix anything. Great job!
*Plus, he seems to have hit the Son-in-Law lotto too!*
Great Team!.
The garage alone has just raised the property value of the entire neighborhood. Looks amazing.
YEP...TAXES TO!
Love the cool demonstration. Upside down and backwards - just like I would do. Third times a charm. Great project. Especially with the ones you love
"We did the typical guy thing" modify the back plate for one light, install it wrong, redo. these guys are great, shown it all.
Those lights look GREAT! Nice work guys! Nice choice on the exterior lights young man! Best father/son building team on YT!
You should really consider sealing around the outside lights. Not so much for water proofing, but to keep insects from being able to build nests in those cavities.
I thought I seen a rubber gasket around them.
I could be wrong but I think they'll need to pull it out to replace the light when it goes bad and it would be a mess on the ceiling.
YES! at minute 13. La Dodgers Baby!. I'm watching from East L.A. and a lifelong Dodger fan.
Coolio! Jordan grew up in Ventura 👊🧢⚾
Well, the place looks FAN-Tastic, inside and out! What a great build, that you can both be proud of the rest of your lives. Congrats guys.
Great to see a major step completed! Congratulations guys! All three of you!
What an amazing accomplishment so far. I got goosebumps watching you turn on the main power and seeing the house lit up. Jordan, you must be extremely proud so far. Looking forward to the next episode. Great job on the massive, err big ass fan.
Great video again Paul & Jordan. I just wish you had some safety or side rails on the scaffolding. The lighting looks really great.
Correcting myself here: Wagos are NOT wet-location rated. Put a Wago "gel box" on those outdoor connections 🤘
You guys are awesome! Thank you for taking us along for the journey 🙌🏽
Hey Paul, you’ve undersold yourself saying those front sconces are the biggest lights you’ve ever installed. The gas lamp on your 26th video way back in the day must take that crown 😜.
Love the content guys, keep em coming. Thanks.
Anyone got a link for those front big ass sconces?
I love that you guys include the mistakes in your videos. Great to see I'm not the only one that these things happen to. Also nice to see how you correct some of the issues in ways I didn't think of. Keep up the awesome work and videos!
Hey guys. The garage/apartment looks awesome all lit up. Hope you experiment more with light color variety. Thanks for sharing this build project.
Stunning, love the look.
Happy to be along for the ride. Awesome stuff guys!
Glad to see another 4000k man, Jordan! I used to be obsessed with "daylight", but it just doesn't look good.
Front sconce look great!
Excellent!
Can’t void a warranty in the US for doing that. Magnuson-Moss warranty act of 1975
I’m 34 and I agree fully.
Paul... I love your attention to detail! 👍
Everything looks so good.. and this is just the garage! The house is going to be amazing I'm sure 😋
I'm so glad to be amongst the first to see it. I've been waiting in eager anticipation for the next video
Nice work guys - The "apartment" looks great! Love that you just dove in and fixed the fan.
@@StudPackyou should consider wearing a harness in those cases. Would hate for someone to not make it home.
Jordan only on the scaffolding when no railing. If he falls, he’ll already be home.
Some giant crash pads would be pretty awesome. Just don’t miss. A lot of incentive riding on that goal.
That was the first thing I noticed. There's always time to do it safely
isn’t his house next door? he could crawl and roll home.. JK.
the older I get the more accident I see and realize how no one plans for accidents to happen.. which will happen but what matters is the severity.
all we can do is minimize risk!
Looking good gents!
Way to go on the fan, I would hope that Big Ass honor the warranty considering it was their craftsmanship….
You guys are truly the best I enjoy every video you guys put out no matter what it's about!! I'm always coming home and looking for a new video of yours! Keep up the great work you guys are a great team!
Hey guys, I love the patience and good attitudes that you all have. We need to bottle that up and bring it to my work place!!
Thanks for the great content!!
from my understanding, you only void a warranty if your “fix” actually breaks something within the device
Great job guys.
So happy for you that you were able to fix the fan rather than the headache of returning for replacement.
Grace and Peace
Slick
Oh man! 4000k.... Everyone is different but I'm a 2700k all day. Love the yellow similar to old incandescent bulbs.
3000k for me. I cringed when he said 4k lol
@@alexanderlavoie5461 part time surgeon 😎
Do you have blue eyes?
@@alexanderlavoie5461same!
4000k MINIMUM, maybe 5000k, depending on the particular bulb/manufacturer. Yellow light is the worst.
Can't wait to see the main house, since this house garage is totally awesome!!!❤
Have garrage doors arrived? It was about 3 weeks ago, and you said delivery was around now. I'm looking forward to seeing the building getting closed in! Awesome job.
They got delayed a month 🙃
@StudPack ahhh sucks to hear that. Sure, you have plenty of things to do in the meantime, and I'm looking forward to it all!
The garage apartment looks GREAT! Extremely well done!
I love the front sconces, but man, those things are going to be FILLED with bugs and cobwebs.
Great video. I appreciate you guys leaving the troubleshooting in there as opposed to a Flawless install which never happens lol
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Love you guys. You helped me with my first and last short install, and it turned out fantastic. Thanks again. 😊
