This week we tackle fantrolls and the things that can make or break them. Fan characters are all about creativity, but if you're not sure where to start, this is sure to help.

This is what I understand from reading the comic that you didn't say or was against what I thought
1. There are 13 blood colors. The lime bloods were killed off but because of SGURB that doesn't matter as much.
2. There can be more than 2 fuchsia bloods just remember the Condesencion would try to kill them
3. Not all yellowbloods have psychic powers the lower end of the hemospectrum is more likely to have them but they don't have to
4. Jadebloods are rare and male Jadebloods are rarer. They don't have to be rainbow drinkers but they are most likely to out of all the casts
one correction with the second topic
1-all yellow blood are born with psychic powers, even the ones that doesn't look like they have, actually have them, is just that their powers are really weak, or they hide them (so they don't become bateries)
2-all the other trolls can have psychic powers, but they are weaker than the ones of a yellowblood, and the cases are extremelly weird, specially if those troll have a higher status in the hemospectrum than yellow bloods, orange blood and rust blood are more commonly born with psychic powers than other non-yellow blood trolls

Liam White i think their power was that they could calm down anyone, event the most violent of trolls, so condy killed them off because highbloods are naturally more violent
Actually, i feel as if only jade bloods should be able to be rainbow drinkers, noting how they lived in the brooding caverns in ancestry, and my theory is since they wouldn't have an actual food source, they adapted to be able to drink the blood of the failed grubs. *le shrug* just my theory
ik this comic was from eight years ago ( vriska would be proud ) but I agree with this headcannon/ theory. I thought of the same thing when Kanaya and Rose were discussing rainbow drinkers, and the topic of a rainbow drinker luminescence and their thirst/ need for blood evolved that way.
I agree with you on most things but I have a few things to say.
1. All yellow bloods probably don't have piioniics. In the comic it says that Sollux is mutant so I assume that's why he has piioniics.
2. All jade bloods don't have to be rainbow drinkers. Again in the comic, it says that Kanayas was made to be a rainbow drinker and that it was special to her.
However I could be wrong so...
If I remember correctly, Kanaya's blood is a very rare type and that is why she was a rainbow drinker and could stand Alternia's sun. So yeah, it's special to her. But it's because she's a jade blood. Not all jade bloods awake as a rainbow drinker like Kanaya did, but all jade bloods have the possibility to be one.
I do agree with you on the yellow blood thing, though.
Also, making your own blood color is appreciated, BUT Hussie himself confirmed that troll cannot have
Black blood,
White blood,
Rainbow blood,
Transparent blood,
Or color changing blood.
Now I could be wrong and it I am, please correct me.
But I remember reading somewhere that it is not uncommon for yellow bloods to have psyonics but it isn't unheard of for a yellow blood to not have psyonics.

The first fantroll I made was so un original it wasn't even funny, so I just stopped trying to make that one, and started a new one :3 I finished everything but godteir.
also a tip for creating a fantroll, if you don't know a sign to use, combine two of the zodiac signs ^-^
or use an alchemetical symbol
Are ALL yellowbloods psiionic though? I know it's more common for lowbloods to have physic powers... but when does it state the entire caste has them? I think it more likely there is a variation within the yellows, there are some that are psiionic, some that have weird ghostly powers like Aradia, and maybe a few with controlling powers like Vriska and Tavros. Probably even a few unlucky bastards with no powers at all. It is stated that Sollux is unusual, so.... I dunno. XD
- Alright, with the new release of character designs for Hiveswap, it is confirmed that not ALL yellowbloods have psiionics, since Bumblebee Girl doesn't. So there's that.
Chatter-Hook I think that it's canon that most lowbloods and ceruleans have some sort psychic powers, but Sollux's are unusually strong. So if your fantroll is a mustard blood I'd suggest giving them psychic abilities but not necessarily have them be a psiioniic

This is actually really helpful! None of it was offensive or rude (at least to me) but it was still within the guidelines! And you also have your own fantroll so you can help other people but you still said that they don’t need to take your advice and I think that’s really nice!
There are 13 different blood colors in the order he says but candy red is off the hemospectrum and in between yellow and olive is lime bloods. ALSO jade bloods don't have to be rainbow drinkers AND I feel as if ANY troll CAN be a rainbow drinker. I have a tiger symbol yellow blood that is a rainbow drinker, no offense though just wanted people to know. (=0w0=)
I believe being a rainbow drinker is meant to those only of the green castes (Jade), because It apparently helps scare away predators in the breeding caverns, where Jadebloods work. I would consider it exceedingly rare, but exclusive towards jade bloods.

White, black, rainbow, color changing or more then one color are 'no' in my eyes. But every other blood color is ok, because shades and tints are a thing, they just have to be close to one canon class to be in.
First: mustard bloods do not generally have psiionics, it is a mutant power.Second: it isn't known if jade bloods are in fact partially or completely rainbow drinkers, all we know is that porrim and kanaya are, as well as enough others on alternia for planetwide lore to come about.Third: if trolls can only wear black, their blood colour, and whatever colour one from the aristocracy allows them to wear why do kanaya and vriska both wear red, kanaya wears others as well because fashion.
hi, i know that you posted this a year ago but i know a two theories about the red thing that could explain this and kind of go together. the first theory is that there are so little of mutant blooded trolls and they are treated so poorly everyone is allowed to wear it, as encouraged by )(IC because she likes the segregation. the other theory is that when a trolls flesh is immediately wounded it turns the candy red color (which could also explain why karat could get inured during fights with crabbed but nobody gets suspicious), but will sometimes stay like that depending on the degree of injury, like terezi's eyes. because of this, and the fact that it is encouraged to hate mutants, the candy red is kind of the "edgy goth" color of alternia, signaling to peers that you could be a mutant if thats all you wear as well as looking injured to any nearby predators.

Jade bloods don't *have* to be rainbow drinkers, and I don't even stick with the rule that rainbow drinking is exclusive to jade bloods.

I felt super scared making mine because I'm Pisces. So I always felt like everyone would think that my trollsona is a Mary Sue.
I've recently began making my first official fan troll. His sign's going to be Ursa Major, and he'll be a teal blood. His lusus will be a cholerbear (mentioned in Mindfang's journal), and will be named Beardad. I am still trying to find a name for him. He aspires to be a legislacerator, and tries to practice in pure, unbiased debates, but has a tendency to let his own personal bias seep through. His strife specibus will be hammerkind, and his first weapon would be a Judge's gavel. What do you guys think?

I would have to disagree with you about the powers. Rainbow drinkers are extremely rare, so not all jade bloods are rainbow drinkers. Rainbow drinkers can also be of any blood caste. Not all low bloods have powers, however most do, because of how low they are.
Yes but (Sollux for example) has powers only do to his what can be considered a "mutation" ( double horns) and the whole make the yellow blood have powers always is sort of not true if another troll had hornsx2 they would gain powers like wise to solluxs.

I have a fantroll that also has the great dog sign. She has emerald blood and is in the same caste as Kanaya (just one higher then her). She is slightly fashionable as the trolls in that caste are. The symbol is great dog, like mentioned before, and dogs are usually a symbol of protection. Pointing towards her overly affectionate, protective and motherly traits. Her name is Lucali Adalyn. Lucali is the shortened name of Lupercalia who is the wolf that mothered and cared for two orphaned Roman children. Adalyn means noble and she is very noble. Being noble also goes along with her sign The Great Dog and dogs, just like her (and her last name) are very noble.
Her lusus is also a mutated dog which has six legs and two tails. It is very big but small enough it won't bump into the roof or walls of her hive. (which is actually quite large for a troll of her blood color)
+Sarah Westcott But wait, there's more. Her title is Maid of Space which already is a cannon title for Porrim Maryam. There is a reason for this title. Maid of Space players always make space where you don't have anymore. Making them basically * made * of space. Her being Maid of Space and once again * made * of space is because she is motherly and always making space and time for the ones who need her soft words and comforting the most.
+Sarah Westcott She has a slight quirk. One of the traits of her personality is being flustered and worried most of the time like mothers usually are worried about their children. When she is flustered and/or worried she types in capitals and mixes letters in words together because of her frantic typing and slurring her fingers across the keyboard. Otherwise, she uses correct grammar and punctuation. When excited, thinking or trailing off her sentences she extends punctuation like Ojh deasr!!! (When worried) or Oh dear...
Thanks I have some fan trolls in mind for my AU I'm just wondering how you got so spot on with the talk sprites and normal sprites of the kids they look really good and a lot better then mine and I'd like to have those sorta character designs in my comic if that'd be possible to make a vid on how to make better sprites for fan trolls I'd be extremely happy!
My friend and I have made it so that we can be original (as much as you can with Homestuck characters...) With our characters and we made our own hemospecterms by increasing or decreasing stuff like saturation and brightness so that we can have our own hemospecterms.
For example my friend made a pastel one.

Most of it is actual correct, believe it or not the only thing so far on what I've noticed is the Feuca gender, it never really claimed in the web comic that both had to be female. But Yes there can only be two in existence. If you noticed anything else wron please tell me I would love to talk about it :3

The aspect represents a sort of base; an ever-persistent force in a player's life to which they strongly relate. One's class is how they interact with said force. Together they form a personality niche - one of 144, or 168 if you count the Master Classes - into which many different types of individuals may fall, though the commonality will be as was mentioned. 8:34
Oh, I did not really notice much of this except the jade blood thing, thank you for pointing it out. And yes the "you can only wear your blood color" is a fan theory I do think I may true. But this is my opinion. Back to the jadegreen blood in my opinion but it is never mentioned in cannon, that I think all jade green bloods are rainbow drinkers. This can be supported by the fact that jadegreen bloods are extremely rare almost as rare as the Fuca bloods (or Feferi condescension and mennahs blood color) but there are more of them by about I think 10/20 trolls. (Again never mentioned how many jadegreen bloods are left) but it also didn't say in cannon whether the all jade-green bloods were rainbow drinkers or not.
So it could leave a person I assume if they were all rainbow drinkers or not

That "13th" blood color, is canon. I don't know when it was canonized so I don't know if it was before or after this video, but Karkat's Red blood color is a mutation and more like a 13th color than the actual "13th" color, which fits between Sollux and Nepeta and is theorized to be what Karkat's blood color is supposed to be if he weren't a mutant. Which makes sense, because whenever the Trolls are arranged by blood color in the comic, Karkat's sign is placed between Sollux and Nepeta's.
Which is why it always strikes me as dumb when TH-cam videos put Karkat after Aradia.

Not Karkat, but I see Candy Red lips, and a gray sign. Though, who's to say the Candy Red mutation is exclusive to Lime bloods? Gray/Red Troll here could be from any part of the spectrum as far as I know.

Kinda broke a bunch of the rules with both of my fantrolls...hehe.
One's a black-blooded troll, and I actually wrote some lore for the black/white bloods (or "shade bloods"). I wrote that black blooded trolls are thought to be bad luck, and are often abandoned at birth. My first fantroll, Raina Heist (5 letters each, whoops) somehow wound up on earth, and was raised by human parents. She hid her trollness as best she could until accidentally stabbing a bully with her horns and being kicked out. She lived inside a mall for awhile, got found and nearly raped by a security guard, and somehow made it to Alternia. Her quirk is to replace A with @, and she wears a white shirt with an @ symbol and jeans. Her weapons are daggerkind and hornkind.
The other one, Ocarina Marxochime (7 and 10, but it relates), is a pastel-purple blood seadweller with ocarina-shaped horns. I don't have too much of a backstory for her, only that she was bullied, locked in a pool all night, and now has hydrophobia and has frequent panic attacks, especially when people touch her. Instead of swimming, she uses an inhaler, and hides her fins behind her hair. She's really shy and stutters a lot ("H-h-hi"), but the only typing quirk I've figured out is a word change ("see" or "sea" to "C", "Sharp" to "#") and I'm still trying to pin down a symbol. She normally wears clothes like hoodies and jeans, clothes that don't draw much attention to her flat body.
Whoops, I wrote a whole paragraph about my trolls. Just wanted to compare and contrast what I have vs what you said in the video. First video I've seen by you and it was awesome.
P.s. an anon on Tumblr ( wolverinedoctorwho btw) sent me a message saying "your troll's name has to be 6 letters from the first name and 6 for the last" and I'm like "who asked you to judge my trolls". #DontHateAppreciate
Panda Hat Productions Heh, all I really did wrong was make a male fuchsia blood (which I don't count as impossible) but my other fantrolls seem alright. I don't really use them often though.

Darkfoxdragon101 i don't think you can make a male fuchsia blood, but mainly because i have a headcanon that trolls are raised to be the same gender as their lusus. and i'm pretty sure the only lusus for fuchsia bloods is female. idk i might be wrong

So may I mention that not all jade blooded trolls are rainbow drinkers, and jadebloods aren't exactly common. Also, not all mustard blooded trolls are likely to have psionics (sorry I can't spell). Also, another thing I noticed is the whole "nepeta can only wear blue as equius have her permission" thing is a headcanon and though that is a possibility, it may not be completely true. Please do not have headcanon sin an informative video unless you specify that it is, in fact, a headcanon.

What about making up blood colors? Like say I wanted to do a mint blood troll, or sky blue blood, would I be able to without people writing her off as awful? Or is there already a mint or sky blue blood that I just don't know about? And would mint or sky blue have to be mutant, or could they be normal?
That would probably work if you made it an alternate timeline or universe.
I like to think shades of blood colors exist, but all within one general caste. Theres also the concept of cuspblooded trolls too

Yeah - I’ve always assumed the hemospectrum is a *spectrum* - so just figure out which caste they fit into and make sure to make the blood color about the same brightness as the others we see, and you should be good!

Since the Captors all use psiionic kind, I don't think you'll need one. But if you have one in mind, knock yourself out! (Not literally, that'd be bad...)

My fantrolls God Tier is the Rogue of Life. I had to look into it a lot and change the personality a bit to correspond to God Tier.
Question about signs: Is it counted as breaking the rules if my sign is not of a constellation? Because, me and my friend went to pick a theme on our 3 characters and we decided on basing them on atomic particles, mine is Neutral while hers is Negative.

because the hemospectrum is like a caste system and everyone fits into it to determine class, just like how there can be many people in lets say, the upper class (just comparing the two loosely bc there is no actual caste system in america). whereas the astrological sign is a symbol of your family line, like your family tree is different from your neighbor's. this was posted a while ago but i hope it helps!

Ok, so one of my fantrolls is a sort of orange/yellowblood and he doesn't exactly have psionics but he does have mind control, would this be canon for that blood cast? Considering Tavros has a form of mind control does this work?
Blackblooddragoness Well, it could be. Tavros has mind control over animals, but that mostly has to do with him being a brown blood, which is a sub-caste within orange. I think that mind control could be plausible, just don't go crazy with it.

Okay, so with using a sign as the symbol on the t-shirt what happens if you creat one yourself? Or is that shunned upon by the Homestuck community? Because I made one instead of using a zodiac sign thing, I've done all things necessary to create a fantroll I've done there God tier, there lusus, there weapon but in stuck on creating names and troll tags.
Bleeding Rose Im pretty sure it's fine. I just randomly drew something, thought it was cool and used it on my newest troll. She's my favorite so far and I had made all of my others before I even read the comic. My friends just helped me and now that I have, I see that they're all crappy. Everyone that I know that has made a troll doesn't use the zodiac sign thing, they just come up with symbols themselves.

Also, who would my fantroll get permission from to wear a color besides its blood color? A canon character? Or do I need to make my own to give my fantroll permission? Another question that I have is what if you alchemize a weapon, and you have two of the same one, would you still keep the name as whatever weapon it was? Like if you had two daggers, and you alchemized them with a lamp, would it be 2xdaggerkind, or would it be something like 2xbrightdaggerkind? +HABIT brand Typically someone in their quadrents would give them permission to use their blood color, like nepeta and equius are moirals, and gamzee and terezi are kissmessies (at least that is how it seems to work). And the "kind" of weapon thing is like if you fought with a dagger like you said and upgraded it, it would still be the same basic weapon so I don't think you would change it
Sorry if this isn't useful due to how far after your comment it is, but I'll try to help. One, I don't think that the color for clothing rule is real, but if you want to use it, I don't think you'd need the canon characters, as most are dead, or the main characters. And your alchemized daggers would still be daggerkind. The Pogohammer isn't pogohammerkind, objects stay in broad categories.

So.. I made a Fantroll, she is a the mutant blood of Mint (I RESEARCHED IT IS A MUTATION SO SHUSSSHHH!!) I tried my best not to make her a Mary Sue by making her decently weak, though she does have a bit of a quirk at her having kinetic(is it kinetic or psyonic?) and luckily I haven't any hate, thank god! But I'd like some opinion on her(please no hate.. Just constructive criticism), her sign is made by me and is by no one else and her ancestor has dragon fly like wings is like her sign, lusus, and horns. Her horns are a lot like her sign which is a basic dragon head with an unattached dragon spine wing and her horns are like the spine wing in her sign. Her lusus is a Wyvern and she has a few typing quirks, "I m€£n, ¥ou n€v€r know wh£t h€r quirks I m€£n.. God.." Anyway, I'd love some criticism and I can tell more information if wanted and a link to her picture! Her name is Anguis Ascela which follows the rule 6 6 and she has throwing knives(knifekind). I can also tell information about her Ancestor and Dancestor.
+Nami Flyon The whole "making them weak" thing is fine to prevent a Sue, but that weakness *must* be exploited in some type of conflict, and cannot be easily overcome. Otherwise they're just an Anti-Sue. By "cannot be easily overcome", I don't mean how much you say they struggle. There needs to be at least a miniarc where this weakness is exploited, and in some circumstances it's best if you *don't* have them overcome it, instead coming to terms with it, like Dave and Bro, which was an arc that spanned 16 entire Acts.
Stories go by the rule "Show Don't Tell". We know more a character from what they do than anything the narrator can describe. For instance, Mom Lalonde. We can figure out that Mom was not being passive aggressive because of Roxy's interests. This leads to the conclusion that Mom drinks because she is angry at herself for being unable to show her daughter how much she cares. This shows us two different narrators for Rose's pre-entry events. One unreliable narrator relying on Tell and showing a girl with a deadbeat mother. The other, illustrated with Show,, of a woman desperately trying to show that she cares, but her daughter keeps interpreting every gesture of friendship as a hostile jab. The stress becomes too much, and she is driven to alcoholism. After entering the Medium, she leaves via boat, believing that at least now her daughter won't see her die.
Even the dialogue can show instead of tell. Why was that the exact thing they said? For example, Diamonds Droog. His encouragement starts to sound different when you realize his two fetishes: violence, and the color grey. With Aradia, who is grey, committing violent acts, and him guiding her, it becomes clear that he isn't actually guiding anyone. He's playing an adult-rated visual novel, and she's the girl.
And of course the Felt. I forget the name, but the one who represented 4 did this. He always spoke in riddles. It turns out riddles is a form of Leprechaun romance. He's not giving advice. He's making sexual advances.
You can do this with a lot of things. Ever play Heavy Rain. I won'y spoil how, but they do it with the detective.

For the quirk, I suggest you write characters that aren't ALT codes, the trolls wire their quirk like that without ALT codes, the cannon I mean. Also, make sure the quirk fits with their character, or at least an interested or based of their sign. Your troll can't be of the cannon universe though, a mutant blood happens once every who knows how many sweeps or something like that, also, on what their blood color would've been, avoid making mutants if you want them to be part of the actual cannon universe. But yes, as said above, give it a reason for why is she so weak, again, on what their blood color should've been so that you can tell how weak she is easier, because you should know by now that lowbloods are weak, but are psychic, and highbloods are least likely to be psychic, but are stronger and more resistant, yes? Character development is also very important, try to guide yourself a little to make a quirk that makes more sense.
Trust me, I know this and if I could just show you her Character Bio, I think it would give a better projection of her character, I worked hard and quite honestly I am proud and believe she has just the right features to fit in the canon, even if it is just a little.

Lol I kinda messed up on the Name trait thing. Ya see here, Little Veriona, my main Fantroll -my pfp- she has 7 letters instead 6. But I kinda made up for it to make her last name short so it's still 12 letters.
