I like the second story idea best. i'm imagining a scene where she replaces one of the murdered balerinas and people comment how they dance exactly alike and this is only because of the murderee's guidance and she has an existensial crisis over whether she's really good at ballet or is just a pale imitation of these dead girls
Of course!!! that was my favorite part to make of the video, so many people don’t realize just how many creative and interesting styles black hair can be in!!
Dude am here bc I made an AU design more full of life than an OG and those tips sound really fun!! Ive been in the fandom trenches since years, I know this isn’t a “how to not make a mary sue” kinda video, but seeing someone’s show how to stand out is actually so refreshing! (Also damn thatsa new channel n you’re already making bangers)
This video is so comforting somehow? I don't know how more people haven't found out yet!❤ The art style is so pretty and every character is so PRETTY ☆☆☆❤🎉
This was really helpful with character design! I especially have trouble with outfits and most of the time I just pick a certain style and stick with it for that character, also tying the genre into the story without making it magical realism or something is really cool!
This video is actually really helpful??? Ive been kind of stuck on designing characters (mostly due to the fact that i tend to overthink the design being good enough which leasds up to me hating the process) and this kinda help me break out of the loop Thanks!!
the mention of Clowns ( 15:49 ) reminds me of the fact I need design rules for all different types of Clowns in my story. They all need to be unique and all need to have a similar look and im suffering fr 😭
I had an idea for the Ballerina story. She would be a ghost who was killed by her rival, who was her childhood friend, because she was jealous that she was gaining more fame in her career than she was. Even though she was dead, it didn't seem like people saw and touched her and She also hadn't remembered being killed. At the same time she also killed the other dancers who were having a solo performance, when they were alone after the performance. The guy called Murder is the boyfriend of this Ballerina, who after discovering that his girlfriend was a ghost wanted to kill the person who did this to her. The detective was a person who saw the ghosts that the Ballerina killed, although these ghosts did not remember how they ended up dying, making her have to discover the case with little solid information about the killer.
Oh very fun! I have made lots of OC lately with some sticking more to me than others. I like the ideas from this video, definitely want to give them a try when revising my characters!
Another great and informative vid from above from Mov. I love the amount of love when creating the protagonist. The clothes, personality, and her natural hair and the numerous style options. I am leaning towards the protagonist being a more unreliable narrator. If you keep her dedication and "I must be best" mindset, there is a potential to discuss her struggles with keeping with beginners and experienced ballerinas that compete with her. As the story progresses, you discover how dedicated she REALLY is when it comes to with interacting with her peers.
I really needed this video omfg. I’m taking design for this year and the teacher had requested last year that I start doing these things now considering how slow and lacking I can be, so thank YOU for the advice and thank youtube for giving me a good recommendation feed
You had me hooked as soon as you referred to us as your moon and stars XD new sub!! Your drawings looks soso cool and unique I'm looking forward to what you upload in the future :3
i struggle to get interested and therefor attached to my oc's, which makes me lose interest in writing their stories rather quickly. most of the time i don't mind, but its a huge issue when im writing a character for a story that i want to turn into a book, i post those free online so i have a lot of ideas for them. the story i like, but for some reason i cant get invested in the actual characters! the current story i wish to turn into a book takes place in a fantasy world revolving around magic horses, unicorns and pegasi and what not, it is inspired by the cartoon mlp but its a more mature world with darker stories. i have many stories planned for it, all of which i love, but the issue im having right now is that in order to start the series off, i need to write the first book, obviously, but i am not interested in the main character or his journey. this video has some useful tips that i will try out, so thank you, i hope they're able to help me and i hope you too have a fantastic artistic journey in creating characters and crafting stories :D
I think you should make your characters with intent, such as what is their intent? their design should show that (this is a recommendation not a rule!) or just do whatever lol art is art!
this is such a wonderful video! i love how you’re explaining while giving an example, it actually feels like im being taught and i’m learning rather than just being told. thank you!
I was looking for advice on exactly this a few days ago and couldn't find the perfect video for me. Then this showed up randomly on my page today, it's amazing! Thank you so much, this video is just what I needed! ❤ I'm trying to design two characters for a comic I'm making to get better at drawing and work through some emotional stuff.
this is helpful but i think it would have been a good idea to incorporate her genre into her design, to me the bright colors make her appear a bit too cheerful for the moody atmosphere of a horror story. it could have been beneficial to her design if she had a more desaturated color palette. of course there are colorful designs even in horror, but this is often done with the intention of contrast, or used to show a cheery character in a horror setting which doesn’t really seem to be the case with this girl, overall it’s a great video but this was just something i picked up on
This is true! My style personally leans more towards bright colors, and in my section about shape language, I mention that oftentimes bright colors or softer shapes are used on malicious characters to mask their intent. I wasn’t sure exactly how her story would go, but on the surface she would be a cheery character or at least pretend to be! I’m glad you picked up on that! 💜
Damn, this is a really helpful guide, however, knowing me when making characters, I end up just "figuring who they are" and tgen weave them into the story if they have any.
This video appeared at my recommendation at right timing, as I'm thinking about redesigning my OCs!! The ballerina girl's design is gorgeous, as a brown person myself I felt seen. Is it wrong if I want to see the story idea executed? lmao
I overthink mine..I get kind of stressed out. I want to make fun characters but my brain freezes at simple questions such as what they like, and I feel guilty for not being able to come up with anything
My oc is a baker who is also a witch who practises dark magic. This magic is what makes her baking so good but if ppl found out how she bakes they would be repulced. Anyway, i rlly want her to have an alternative/goth style but also i want her to wear an apron and i cant figure out how to make an apron fit her style 😭😭
My character's setting is... complicated. For most of the series (I'm trying to make it into a series here on youtube), it'll be in his imaginary world inside his head, but near the end, it'll be revealed that he's in a mental asylum
i love the advice you give in the video but I can't hear the hair section and the audio just cuts off idk if anyone has that problem but I can't hear it DDD:
I'd say the second plot works the best. Having your main character be someone who doesn't come from wealth (that ballet is usually associated with) and working to afford ballet makes htem an underdog, and having them be secretly killing other ballerinas cuz they don't want to work hard to be the best feels................... not great. Both from a classism and racism angle.
This why i don't do original characters. Too much of thinking this & that. Fanart is more of my thing because i just want to draw & relax after getting back from work

My oc’s whole shtick is being chill and boring. So I gave him dog nose shoes and threw on a brown jacket on him… viola! Dennis! The God of wine!
Okay but Dennis is such a good name cuz iirc it's derived from Dionysus
