The 993 era of Porsche 911's from 1995 to 1998 is a favorite among those who love air cooled Porkers. It is the newest, and therefore the most modern air cooled 911, and it maintains a great balance between over-engineered modern quality and old-school feel. It may not be the fastest or most powerful 911 that you can get for the high-five figures, but it certainly feels special to drive.

He's not really getting paid. He drives the cars then has to create content with the cars and then we have to watch them and then he gets paid. Just because he creates these videos does not guarantee he will get paid as some videos don't get as many views. Not many people get paid to drive cars. Journalists don't get paid to drive cars. They drive cars then have to write articles for whatever magazine they're writing for. Matt and his gang works really hard to make interesting content week after week. It's not an easy gig. I know I wouldn't be able to do it because I'm unable to talk in a way people will find interesting lol

+1. .. Kurt welcome to 993 ownership. .. The biggest, single most bang for your performance buck is a gearbox swap from an early '95 or '96 993 which has a lower gearing profile from 993 production years '97 and '98. .. Either that or regear your '97 gearbox. .. I've experienced a MY96 993 gearbox swap first hand back in year 2000. .. To this day the lower gearing brings a smile.

Hey Matt. Saying Hi from Trinidad in the Caribbean where we don't have a lot of the cars you drive. So we don't get to see them as much. Can you have one of yours guys do some more interior/exterior shots of the other cars while you're doing your takes, so you wouldn't be burdened with an overload of work. I think everyone would enjoy seeing more of the cars(including this beautiful Porsche). We love what you and your team do. You do what everyone wishes they can.

I learned Manuel on a 993, let’s just say it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, the clutch pull is so long and the gas pedal is so light😵💫😵💫😵💫

If you can save and get a 993 or a 964 it would be far more rewarding. They are the last of the true Porsche cars. Before they started to get bigger and more powerful with the 996 onwards. There is nothing wrong with the 996 or 997 but go and try them against a 993 or 964.
My dream is an early 70s or mid 70s Porsche with all of the rawness of the older cars. Even the old 4 cylinder porsches are cool.
@@bighands69 Unless you don't like the old style dash, guages that only show your face and floor mounted beetle pedals that are a pain to use. I like the 993, but a decent gen 2 Cayman is very close for a huge amount less.

Love your videos Matt. I own a 81 911SC, with a long throw shifter :) I think that changing the shifter on these cars, including the 993 models, takes away from their driving experience. It may sound like a good upgrade, but trust me, the floor hinged pedals, lazy center steering, whirly-throaty engine, engine cooling fan, AND long shifter, all work together to give us that particular driving experience. Once you being modernizing these cars, you will enjoy it at first, then a few hundred miles later, you will miss the original setup.

I have a 1997 Porsche 993 and I agree the gear shift lets the car down. I replaced it with the 993RS short throw and installed a "Golden Rod", it really improved the gearshift. I feel it's the first thing you should improve if you buy a 993, it really makes the car a lot better to drive.

You mention on center steering, but what does it mean? Can you explain?
sure, it's how the steering feels in a mostly straight line. When the wheel is mostly centered. The difference would be how the steering feels once the car is already loaded up in a corner. The air-cooled Porsche's have sloppy on-center steering feel, but really really good feel once the front outside wheel is loaded up nice.

I love the 993 to death, it doesn't look as dated as a 996, it's air-cooled, it's still decently fast, and they're just so pretty and they sound amazing. Plus they're fast enough to have fun, but slow enough that you use full throttle and push the car.

Matt its a 20 year old Porsche that is stock, yes to today's standards its not that fast but in 1997 it was. Plus car was built as a do it all sports car. Great videos as usual
