- TORTURE TEST CERAMIC SPRAY SEALANT for auto detailing. Today its The Opticoat Hyperseal vs Ethos Resist Graphene Ceramic Spray Coating. Both are very popular in the auto detailing scene and easy to get. Are these spray sealants good paint protection or are they another auto detailing gimmick? We will find out. I will be testing these ceramic spray sealants or ceramic spray coatings with a chemical resistance test. I will start with a good car detailing soap and keep stepping up the torture until they fail. I am an Optimum Fan. I have many products from them that I like a lot. I did not want this to happen at all. I wanted a full torture test with 2 hard fighters. Optimum does make a version 2 of this product and I am hopeful that it is much better. They claim the durability is much better. I hope you enjoyed the video anyway.

I have an optimum pro ceramic coating on my car and was recommended hyperseal as a topper. The way water is lazy to evacuate immediately turns me off to it. The glossy look is nice after application, but the hydrophobics are kind of lame. Thanks for confirming that I’m not crazy thinking it’s lacking!
If the Opticoat Hyperseal had a gold sticker proclaiming "new ceramic formula" then that's the latest version which has SIC as well as SIO2. If no sticker's on Hyperseal bottle, it's the older SIO2 only formula. They both need an hour to cure before being washed.
He literally gave it a few weeks to cure 😂

Damn. That water beat the hell outta Opticoat 😂 that was super weird. PH Detail supply makes a Ceramic quick coat. Give that a shot if you ever come across it. Very versatile product!

You want to test spray sealants try Phoenix EOD Titan vs Apex Detail BC3 or Phoenix EOD Immortal vs Apex Detail BC2!

Titan and BC3 are 2 of my top spray sealants in a whole closet full of stuff.
Great ease of application, slickness & gloss, and good durability for a spray sealant.
Can even use both off label as a spray and rinse.
Some of my favorites were Defy, Resist, Premier, Polish Angel Cosmic Spritz but all are remaining unused.

I really like the foam party. Smells amazing.
I have tried both brands and Ethos products are, IMHO, superior. Now I am not saying Optimum products are bad but for the price, and side by side, I would recommend Ethos. Their regular car soap I think is underrated. Very good at cleaning and the lubricant aspect is phenomenal.

Apply with a foam pad like Opti-Seal. That's the best way by far to apply it for durability.
I believe someone already mentioned it, but I would definitely have a look at the manufacture date on the bottle. Another channel looked at a different OptiCoat product, and it underperformed for sure; however, it was more than 18 months old. Wondering if that’s what happened here.

Don't know but if that is the case I am still not impressed. $45+ and says it last a year on the paint but wont last 6 months in the bottle?? If there are old bottles flying around and it’s that sensitive to time they should put an expiration date on it.
Very interesting... I haven't tried hyperseal but I have used Optiseal successfully. I do love me some Ethos though. I've only tried Defy and it's awesome, one of my favorite products to use. I will definitely try out Resist at some point.

I use Resist on top of my Ethos Matrix Ceramic coating about once every 4 or 5 months. It's pretty good stuff
Yeah it seems like a nice product
Not sure how familiar you are with Resist. HyperSeal never had a chance. Resist is a bonafide 6 months to 1 year Graphene paint sealant, it’s no joke, and not just a topper. My garaged, seldom driven car has had Resist on it for 13 months and is still beading and rolling water off!
I've used ethos ceramic pro detail spray and it didn't seem to last for me. It also felt sticky after rain. At 70mph I wasn't getting water off the panels of my car when driving. The pro ceramic wax was great to work with, but I only got a month of good protection from it before having to reapply. I've moved to DIY Details products and couldn't be happier
That is super weird behavior. Hyperseal has actually been updated twice since the original version (the most recent update was a couple months ago). I wonder if this product just went bad? It's rated for a year+ protection, soap shouldn't be able to wipe it out like that.

Thanks for the review of this Jeremy. I've been interested in this Hyperseal for a long time (from way back when it first came out on the first generation of the product) but I never had the opportunity to purchase it. I am glad I didn't. Especially since it is twice the price of Opti-Seal. I've used Opti-seal in the past with pretty good results but it too had no longevity in my opinion but it was ok as a quick topper after a rinseless wash with ONR. Optimum needs to re-think their strategy on this one. You would think a company with the reputation of Optimum would have a much better product than this for the price they are charging. A complete FAILURE for the price.

We live in a time where longevity is important. Everyone looks for it and they still couldn't get it right. At the bare minimum, all waxes and or detail sprays should atleast last 5 washes

Hmm...that's weird. I've never used Hyper Seal, but everything I've heard about it is positive. The TRC boys really like it, but I can't imagine that would be the case with performance like you saw.
What is the date on the bottle? I wonder if it could be old product, or if it was from a bad batch or something...
Anything is possible. Not sure what this was. I did not want this to happen at all. I was bummed to not do the torture. They have a version 2. I am sure and hopeful that it is better.

the ethos resist and defy are great products....
Looks like you were using the oldest version of Hyper Seal. The newest one has a gold "NEW Ceramic Formula" sticker. The next newest version has a gold "NEW Formula" sticker.
I have all the versions. Tested them over and over in more ways than I wanted to do just to make sure this was not a fluke. I am a fan of optimum overall they have great polishes,ONR and other products but unfortunately this is not their best stuff. Maybe they will get it right on the next version.
Kind of a shocker as this is some of the worse durability I have seen since Zymol made a ceramic spray. I have used Ethos and it works well for about five months and then it fades.

Have you tried applying HyperSeal with a foam applicator and then letting it “flash” before buffing ?
I tried everything and unfortunately it just did not perform well even under normal conditions. My thoughts are if it takes too much effort and kinda sucks after all the effort its just not that great. I bought it at full price and wanted it to be good but just cant give it my thumbs up at this point. They are working on a stronger version and I am hopeful that will be better.

Can you do a chemical guys hydro slick vs ethos ?
I think hydroslick is comparable to ethos ceramic wax. I used hydroslick on my car and it’s held up okay but it’s a giant pain in the ass to buff off. It also streaks like crazy. I’m about to switch out my chemical guys stuff for ethos.
I could be mistaken. But I thought Hyperseal is a sheeter not a beader. Does anyone know for sure?
It was a pretty weak sheeter. no pun intended. Hahahaha
Thats crazy. It beading before suds and a wipe shows its not the application. The product washes off really easy, period.
I use turtle wax hybrid solutions (yeah, I know its not fancy stuff), and it beads better than anything I've personally used, and lasts, wash after wash after wash. This is very disappointing from a manufacturer of really good products that you pay more for because its that good. I definitely wont use this version of it! Great test, no way you muffed that up dude. Thats a product failure all the way.

Hey Jamie. I am not sure what happened with this test. I wanted it to last. I was bummed. I have used hyperseal on a coated vehicle and it was super slick and looked great but the car had a top tier ceramic coating on it so it was beading and sheeting like crazy. Stand alone I wasn't even able to wash it without it melting off the paint. Keep up the great work on your channel. I always watch your tiktoks. Yes I do. This Tesla has opticoat pro plus. Was a good coating but there are plenty of good consumer level coatings out there that work great. I plan to polish and coat it again soon. I Will try to do a good vid on it. Thanks
