  • A strap footing is a component of a building's foundation. It is a type of combined footing, consisting of two or more column footings connected by a concrete beam.
    A strap footing is often used in conjunction with columns that are located along a building’s property or lot line. Typically, columns are centered on column footings, but in conditions where columns are located directly adjacent to the property line, the column footings may be offset so that they do not encroach onto the adjacent property. This results in an eccentric load on a portion of the footing, causing it to tilt to one side. The strap beam restrains the tendency of the footing to overturn by connecting it to nearby footings.

    Thank you. I wonder if it´s wrong to include a linear subgrade modulus in the beams in edge column case.

    I appreciate your efforts...But I want to clarify one big doubt ....As per the codes it is recommended to provided only one layer i.e bottom layer of reinforcement ...Experts say that the upper layer of reinforcement don't contribute in further increasing flexural capacity ...Also considering the economical side ...I just want to provide the reinforcement as bottom mesh for the eccentric or edge footing ...Could you please suggest how to deal with this situation .......

    Sir, In foundation design why consider only service load combination not ultimate factored load combination. in load combination what should check using ultimate load combination. From Etabs should we take only dead and live load why not seismic load effect. pls sir.

    PLS MAY I GET CLARIFICATION ABOUT K SPRING COMPUTATION. BECAUSE WE USUALLY COMPUTE IT BY THIS FORMULA ( ALLOWABLE B.C*120 -AS SI UNITS )
    EX: IF ALLOWABLE BC =200KN/M3 THE K =200*120=24000 KN/M3) IS THIS PROCEDURE CORRECT OR NO

    When I check Punching Shear it says "N/C" not calculated. Please help

    • @civilmdc
      @civilmdc  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Software will never calculate punching shear for strap foundation (A foundation connected with beam).
      Because beam will restrict the punching... it will restrict the punching of foundation......
      For Example: If you have slab and columns only (Means with no beam), then there is a chance of punching shear,...........
      But if you have slab with beams and columns... there is almost no chance of punching.
      I hope this will clear your question.

So how can i design the foundation of the building in SAFE from ETABS file that's i wanted to know. I have seen the playlist you shared and i don't understand which one is needed me. I am in shorting time. It will be very helpful if you please specify the link of the tutorial.
