As a retro gamer with some disposable income, I welcome this small but powerful machine :) I understand it's possible to preorder? Will be keeping an eye out for this one!
You can pre-order it from our store at droix.co.uk/product/gpd-pocket-3/. If you can't wait for the release (we do not have one just yet) then you may be interested in the ONEXPLAYER 1S, GPD Win 3 & MAX 2021 which are already available, or the AYA NEO Pro out soon. Check our video reviews for those, all are great for gaming and retro gaming!
My main issue is, having an old one mix 2s I know that with a screen bigger than 7” this is actually no longer pocketable even in a large cargo pocket. At least not if you want to protect it with a case. I’d be interested to see how well it handles audio and video editing though.
When we have some time we will try and get a video made with higher TDP and compare it. It should be around the same performance as the other GPD devices. This is aimed more as a work laptop but it has a great CPU so why not enjoy some games on it as well :)
Nice review. I hope we will see in future you use TDP menu 2.05 from GPD discord. 1195 usable for office tasks even at 7 watt TDP = 11+ hours of battery life.
Very tempting. I mostly want a back up for my beast desktop that blurs the line between productivity, portability, and some low spec indie gaming. I don't expect to run modern AAA but would like the option to play a lot of my indie games, emulators(up to PS2), or open source Doom. The Win Max 2 is certainly an option and doesn't cost much more but the 10 inch size is really stretching it on portability, plus the weight makes it unappealing. I think I'm going for the Pocket 3. I can just do big games at home. My biggest issue is how the heating for these devices are. Would you say it gets really hot under high loads to the point where it bothers you? That was a big issue with the GPD Win 1 where even in SNES games it would become a portable easy bake oven too hot to hold. I'm not exaggerating, it got that hot in any game.
You may want to wait a little longer for the GPD Pocket 4 droix.net/blogs/gpd-pocket-4-overview/ which should be out by the end of the year. It has the same form factor as the Pocket 3, but the latest AMD CPU. The Pocket 3 series has very good heat management. We recently reviewed the lower cost Pocket 3 model with Intel 7505 CPU, th-cam.com/video/qpeD0XNHEL8/w-d-xo.html and the temperatures under high load were no problem.
When we reviewed the lower priced N6000 model we did compare the fan noise on both models. You can watch the video at th-cam.com/video/TLp4enjqf8Q/w-d-xo.html for the comparison. The i7 model was around 50dB while under full load and the N6000 was around 45dB on full load. Unfortunately we did not do heat tests then but hey do not get hot enough that you would not be able to hold them etc.
Thanks for the suggestion. We are doing a TikTok/YT Shorts video for the Pocket 3 shortly, and will include using some design software and I believe the stylus. Thanks
Any comments on the noise it makes? I have a GPD Pocket 2 and it makes a quite noticeable and somewhat annoying high-pitched whir, but also has a "silent running" button. So I wonder how noisy and annoying it, especially with some load?
to a device that isn't meant for gaming this is really good actually, I guess if you bump this up to 20w tdp it will perform similarly to the win max 2020 or
is it possible to disable the keyboard? since it has a "tablet" mode, accidental presses are a certain. besides you would be pressing some bottons if you wanna hold it like a controller ...
When it is folded into tablet mode, the back of the display covers the keyboard etc so it would not be possible to press them unless you had it slightly open or something.
The N6000 is too low performance to run GTA V. You can easily run it on the i7 model. Check videos for GTA running on the 1195G7 processor, the performance will be roughly the same.
The CPU is fast enough but the minimum specs requires Nvidia 750 which is a bit faster than the 1195G7 integrated graphics. You may want to check out the GPD WIN MAX 2 model which has a faster CPU and GPU and can definitely run the game at higher graphics settings. Our review is at th-cam.com/video/5XUengrR4g8/w-d-xo.html
The game will work fine. I have seen other videos showing the game running at high settings on other handhelds like the Win 3 (same processor) at high settings.
The PCMark benchmark tests the performance of tasks such as web page rendering, working with large office documents etc. In the interests of making a fairly entertaining video we do not show pages of word documents etc. :)
8 inch GPD pocket 3 with i7-1195g7 12gb ram with intel iris xe graphics same price as 15 inch ASUS STRIX G15 AMD Ryzen™ 7 4800H Processor with NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3050 Ti...the price for GPD is to expensive it not worth it better goes for ASUS STRIX G15🤔
I don't think the Pocket 3 has a gyroscope. If this is something you want then I can recommend the more powerful GPD WIN MAX 2 at droix.net/product/gpd-win-max-2/ It has a 6-axis gyroscope.

Great review, DroiX!
Honestly, for such a small pocket device, it really packs a punch in power. Impressive. 🤔

Btw the rotation sensor does work ootb. It's just the review pre production models that it did not function for whatever reason
Yeah it was not in the review samples people got. But it might have been based on feedback etc that they added to the final model.
Very nice review. Imagine Win Max with rotatable screen also, absolute banger.
Thanks. Yeah it is a nice feature, though would be nicer if the screen would auto orientate.
@@DroiX_Store I think that need accelerometer on already tiny motherboard. A physical display rotation key can easily do the trick.
very nice review ???!!!!!!
he turn everything ultra settings.
this laptop not ultra Padgett

I havent tried the menu, is there a download link anywhere? I usually use the BIOS to change but having software would be great.

I like how you said the display can be rotated clockwise then proceeded to rotate a counterclockwise.
😀
Thought about the same. The promotion says clockwise😊when I get mine i will gently first try clockwise to not avoid garranty and break😂

They have added an accelerometer and so the screen will orient automatically on the release version.
That is great to hear, it was my main negative about the Pocket 3. I have no idea why it was not included from the start.
We need a GPD Pocket 3 with RYZEN and RDNA 3 igpu.
hi, thanks for the great review. Tell me, how much does the device heat up and make noise with fans in normal and gaming mode? thanks in advance!

will be very interesting a test with photoshop (and the pencil), Zbrush (use a lot CPU), 3DMax or Blender....I hope next time.

Its around 57-60db which is in the same ballpark as the other GPD, OXP and AYA handhelds.

Yeah it is the same processor so you would get very similar performance from it. Its great for sneaking in a game or two while pretending to work :)
Does this have thunderbolt fast charging? Due to later on egpu possibilities
It has a Thunderbolt bolt that supports fast charging and eGPU
7:30 battery test

I know, but still that can free the USB for other tasks, and make the GPD more compact.
Will it be possible to add 5G cellular support? Maybe as additional module.
I would imagine it is possible but that would be up to GPD to make. Or you could use a USB dongle instead.
Which one ca n run gta V ? this model or the N6000? How many fps?

@@DroiX_Store ok thanks!
Does anyone know if it will be capable of autorotation? I don't know if it has the hardware to detect it...
The final model will supposedly have screen rotation.
*This Thing is perfect for Emulators like MAME ;)*
Yeah as it shares the same CPU as the gaming handhelds you can play a good variety of games and emulators, easily up to PS2 era.
Can i upgrade it
You can upgrade the storage.
