    I am so grateful for your channel and Grace & Grit. Never stop posting about TGATB! Both of you wonderful Mamas inspired me to purchase their curriculum :) I am awaiting my final shipment this week, and I am beyond excited to start planning our new school year.

    I just want to thank you so much for everything you have shared on your channel so far. I brought my son home in the middle of his 3rd grade year this past year and it has been wonderful but challenging. I was feeling overwhelmed but then I stumbled upon your videos! You have helped remind me of why I am doing this! I am also going to try the good and the beautiful. It sounds like EXACTLY what we have been missing. Thank you so much!!

    I love the idea of switching back and forth between history and science. ❤Thanks for the tip.

    I love the idea of switching between history and science! That seems so much less overwhelming than trying to fit in all the subjects. And six weeks must be some sort of magic time amount. Do you spend most days at home all day? How often do you do outings during the day? Or are outings more of the exception? I ask because your family seems so content to be home and relax while doing school.

      We spend most days at home. I just find it way more productive to be at home. Fridays we do field trips and venture out ;)

    I absolutely LOVE this video!!!! And most of all I love how you said “this is enough.” I love this because sometimes as a new homeschooling mom I am having difficulty sticking to one way of doing things and there literally seems like there is no structure in our homeschool because I’m still trying to find what works for our family at this stage in our lives, and for me and each of our kids. I SO WANT to just be present in the moment with my children, and of course have time with my husband!!! I’m definitely looking into this curriculum in the future!

    In a word...yup...to all that you have said. 😊 This is also our second year of homeschooling with about a year and a half before this with public school at home(online virtual school). I now feel so much more relaxed and a bit more wise to this homeschool thing especially since we've discovered the Good and the Beautiful. I am also so thankful to you and your spirit led uplifting ways. God bless!!! 💕

    I LOVE how you use the history and science units!!! I always felt like we had to hurry through it and get it all in. Unfortunately there was no retention that way and not enjoyable at all. I think focusing solely on either history or science for a solid 4 to 6 weeks is an awesome idea!! That way we can totally immerse ourselves into the learning and seeing what the Holy Spirit is trying to teach us through these lessons.

    hey! I would like to know how you balance running the house in addition to homeschooling 4 kids. When and what do your kids do to chip in? How do you keep up with laundry and meals and clean up etc? I would love a video on this topic if you ever have the time!

    I'm so glad you mentioned the 'public school mindset'. We are finishing up our second year homeschooling as well and I feel like I am at the same place. Why do I need to follow what everyone is doing in school? That didn't work for us when my kids were in public school so why would it work now? I am loving The Good & The Beautiful but am so sad that the History won't work for us. Maybe one day in the future I can figure out how to use some of it.

    I've just started following you in the last couple months and I love you! We are pulling our kids and HS'ing in the fall. I am seriously considering TGATB for my two older kids. I love the idea of switching between science and history. What do you use for math?

      @monsonschoolhousewithmikae2903  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats on taking the leap of faith! I really think you should pray about TGTB and I know the spirit will give you the "go ahead"! For math I use Teaching Textbooks which is an online program that includes lectures and grading. It is the best fit for our family. There are a lot of options out there, but the Lord let us to that. we love it!

    Just thought of a couple more questions. Are you involved in co-ops? What do you do on Fridays? Will you homeschool through High School? I am still very new to this so forgive me for sounding uneducated on all of this but how does that impact applying for college? Do you give you kids grades and do you have to have them do any standardized testing? Do you submit any grades to the school? What are some of the resources that you turned to for support and questions at the beginning?

    • @monsonschoolhousewithmikae2903
      @monsonschoolhousewithmikae2903  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lacey, I don't like Co- ops because I like to put ALL of my energy into my own kiddos. But we do have homeschool families we do outings with weekly. it is more of a casual thing. and YES, I am TOTALLY planning on homeschooling through highschool. The spirit has confirmed this with such clarity. we do not have to submit anything here in oregon. Also, when applying for college as a homeschooler, contact the college and work with admissions, they can guide you on how to prepare.

      It also depends where you live. Here in NC we’re required to do state testing every year. I pay a fee of 30$ and drop my children off for a couple days in a row for the testing. Prior to that I usually will purchase a “practice test” for about 5$( we do the CAT test). As for college again, requirements differ for diff states, as well as types like private colleges etc. You keep record of what your children are learning, which is why planning either with a book planner or online is great because it keeps a Record of what your kiddos learned throughout the year. Yes, we give them their diplomas. Each state has their requirements to get into that states colleges so that helps you plan on what to teach but they love homeschooled kids! It’s not hard to get in. If anything it’s easier because you can get them what they need and continue teaching what You feel they need to learn as well. Homeschooling students can also dual enroll in Both high school And college at the same time. My 13-yr-old plays travel softball and was missing school sports. But here if you take One online class through our county, your child can still play public school sports( if scholarships in athletics is a priority for you) while homeschooling. You truly don’t have to give up anything to homeschool-and you Gain everything🙌🏻

I am very excited ive watched alot of moms videos about it and it looks great this last week ive seen a few of those moms making new videos about them switching from it and that is not what they thought it would be and dont want it for their children. i was just wondering if you still love it as much as when you first started the lessons because im super excited to start using it!
    We will be using level 1,4 ,6 plus history ,science, typing, handwriting we are diving in with everything and i cant wait!

      I feel if your kids aren't "big readers" they NEED this curriculum. My boys were not all into reading in public school, because they were reading garbage. Once they started reading stories filled goodness and light they can't get enough! They are avid readers and are now not even interested in "diary of a whimpy kid" and all those junk food books. They want depth and layers. ... and yes, my daughter Loves the science. I am 37 years old and I am learning and inspired along with my kids :)

    I am a mother of 5 and have been really contemplating homeschooling😬 I would have a kindergartner, 1st grader, and then 6th, 7th & 8th graders (double 😬, with a little 😰). I’m sooo nervous to make the jump! I don’t have anyone I know that homeschools, but I feel it would be good for our whole family. I don’t know where to start, how to get started or anything of the sort. I’ve just come across your channel and LOVE how stress free and simple you make it sound. I know there will be kinks to work out through trial and error, I just want to make sure this is what would be best for our children and am, honestly, kind of nervous/anxious that I wouldn’t be the best at teaching them all they need to become well educated adults....?! Ugh, how did you do it?....faith? Is there a direction someone could point me in, please? Any advice is certainly welcomed and needed to put my mind at ease and to just do it. ❤️

    • @sharayahsunshine11
      @sharayahsunshine11 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I want to encourage you here that this is something you can totally do. It seems overwhelming at first for people who are pulling all of their children out of public school and making the plunge. I myself have not started yet as I have very small kids but I can pass on what I've done as I'm looking into homeschooling. First every state has requirements that need to be met and you can find those at hslda.org. Second do some research to peg down a good curriculum that fits your family. It can be tricky to find at first but this is a challenge many homeschool Mom's have. TH-cam is a great place to find curriculum reviews. Third keep in mind that this is schooling at home. It won't look like public school when its all said and done. You determine schedules, you determine the content of education, you determine everything! Maybe saying that brings you more stress but there is such freedom in choosing how to mold this into something your family enjoys. Expect some public school mind sets that have to be cast off. I have some and I haven't even started yet. Most of all though just know that YOU know your children, YOU know how they learn. There's no better teacher then you in my opinion. Believe me the 'standards' are just that. Who says our kids have to learn the subjects they do to be successful? A lot of what we are taught about education is garbage. So with this small essay I hope you have a better idea how to start your quest into homeschooling.

      Tina, this is how all of us felt. me included. Fear comes from the adversary. Peace comes from God. it sounds like God is leading you to homeschool, and the adversary is fighting it, trying to stop you. Fight back with faith and prayer. push through! It really is filled with such ease and light once you are doing it. yes, the beginning can be daunting, but don't get discouraged! I suggest using The good and the Beautiful because it makes it so simple to homeschool an entire family. you can do this!

    I have questions to ask. i just started homeschooling for my 6,8 year old girls. There are people who are doing accredited program and not. I'm not american so as a international homeschooler, is that necessary to do accredited curriculum? Or There is no problem choosing individual programs per subjects like i guess what you are doin. I'm asking because one day i have to send my kids to college(Most probably in US)and they would ask me if i did accredited ones or not.

    I love your review on the good and beautiful! I love everything about it, but my 4th going into 5th grader isn’t a strong speller. Does this curriculum just review like 4 different words everyday? I didn’t see anything about spelling tests or quizzes. We currently use all about spelling. Coming from Abeka curriculum where for language alone we can do up to 30 sentence structure analysis.. It’s really hard for me to pull back and feel like this curriculum has enough work to go with new concepts being taught.. is this really enough? I want my kids to love learning but right now it’s such a chore for my kids

      Jamie, it sounds you are in the same boat I was, overdoing it so learning was a "chore" for my kids, not a joy. I thought spelling was about drills, tests, quizzes, trying to mirror public schools, and found we were spending waaaayyy too much time on just spelling everyday before using TGTB. I felt a bit "naked" right in the beginning as I ditched my many spelling workbooks (all about spelling, phonetic zoo etc), and decided to be ALL IN and just do TGTB. well, simplifying pays. Air entered our schooldays, and it felt light and happy and the JOY CAME BACK! My kids haven't once complained about doing their schoolwork since my switch! And, I realized I had been (again) indoctrinated to think that it was large workbooks, tests and drills that made good spellers, I was so wrong. TGTB focuses on different techniques with each level, but mainly through reading high level literature it is making my children better spellers. and now I remember that is how I learned to be a good speller myself. Also, dictation with my level 6 daughter has helped. More is NOT MORE. More is MESSY. More is cluttery. ... and I just wrote a novel ;) Ditch all the clutter in your day and your kids will love learning again which is when they really start "LEARNING"

      Thank you so much, I’m continuing to pray over our curriculum choice for next year but I feel very strongly towards the good and beautiful ! Praying for clarity and for The Lords leading in our homeschool journey! So thankful we are in this journey together as moms and can be inspired and encouraged by how The Lord is working in each of our families and lives!
      Thank you!

    So do you finish year 1 (or whatever year you are on) of the history in one school year?

      Because I don't follow the history in the exact order it is set up, no, I wont finish the entire "year 1" history in 1 year. I jump around between year 1 and year2 and pull the units I want :)

      I just get 1 and use it as my "teachers manual", then I print off worksheets and copy things for everyone.
