Three Years Playing the Electric Guitar - Month by Month Progress
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 7 พ.ย. 2024
- Here is my progress throughout my first three years playing the electric guitar! I started playing guitar in January 2016 as an adult beginner and I've been entirely self-taught through the help of the internet. Since I already have 1 and 2 year progress videos, this one focuses more on year 3. I think the thing I progressed most at this year was starting to figure out how to use the guitar more creatively to express myself :).
I played almost every day when I was able to, usually for an hour or more. However, I have been dealing with an on and off nerve injury in a fretting hand finger, so I was forced to take probably a little over a month off over the course of the year.

That backfired. Inspired him, but backfired lol.

dark zim good man, keep rocking. You’ll soon find out its never too late to learn. Hope you have another 50 years ahead of you to master the instrument. Looking forward to seeing the worlds first 100 year old shredder.

Its a joy! She was made for this... it just took her 22-25 years to figure that out. I was deep into my 30's before I knew what I was good at. Turns out it wasn't rugby, or beer drinking. It was engineering.

This might be your 3 year anniversary video, but for me, that doesn’t matter much.
I have been playing almost 35 years, and watching this video brings back all the joy I had in learning the guitar. You document that joy so well and it is really incredible we live in a time that you can show the world how amazing it is to learn the guitar.
There are times that I become unmotivated or just get used to having the guitar in my life. Watching your videos immediately takes me out of that funk and helps me realize how cool it is that I can play the guitar for a living...
Okay now imma go play a bit a be a kid again... 😁
Just know you are not only inspiring new players of the guitar, but ones that might have lost that joy over the years, and you remind them of the reason they play. 👍
Thank you so much for the kind words, Carl! I'm so happy to hear that my videos can have such a positive influence :). As I've said before, your lessons have been a huge resource for me and I really appreciate all the work you put into them! They're almost always the best lessons I can find for any given song :)
Thanks for tutorial of anastasia outro. It took me to learn it about 3 Days but it was worth :D

Well put sir. I see you are a man of culture.
Yeah, choose the "easy" way! How much is your soul worth anyway
Two things I really liked:
1. The sheer joy coming through in your playing.
2. You're a Ghost fan!
Lesson to be learned here.... Time...Discipline...Hard work.... And tons of fun as you learn it. Her smile as she plays is the visual pat on the back for a job well done. Here is mine... Congrats young lady!
@@comical98 Discipline... Is saying you'll start this and finish it. You'll set a time or days of the week to practice and stick to it. Not as easy as it seems.
@@comical98 I'll answer for the Dog. You are not apart of the norm. You look at it differently than most do. And a great deal of those most individuals have other responsibilities to tend to. Job... Overtime... Kids... homework with kids... Wife.... House... Yard work.... The list is endless and finding time for you let alone time for learning an instrument is difficult at best and sometimes impossible. So... Discipline.
And the first 6 months of playing a guitar arent terribly fulfilling. This physically present in the girl in this video. You can see that she is very focused on her movement, changes, and positioning. As she progresses you couldn't wipe that smile off her face no matter what. Self discipline is the road to success.
First off, this is really inspiring. I'm trying to learn guitar again after giving up on it ten years ago, and this is really motivating. Secondly, yay Ghost!!!!
Goblin Ghost is the main reason I picked up a guitar and started practicing.

I’m a 41 year old who just got back into playing guitar last year. I want you to know this video has inspired me to keep practicing everyday and to hopefully have a similar progression as you. Thanks for sharing this video and thanks for the motivation
The real milestones:
One year and eight months - masters Gary Moore facial expressions.
Two years and four months: acquires leather jacket.
The two most important things when learning Guitar.
@Colin De Vries Oh my God. She did it the wrong way round - jacket first, gurning second! Talk about precocious. Only a genius would risk the leather without the matching set of expressions! The sky's the limit now.
you forgot about growing out hair - month 0
LVL 1 Crook -> LVL 100 Boss
I noticed that as your skill's increased your equipment got better. That shows definite progression. And the facial expressions became more intense as time passed. Keep it up. Pratice, Pratice, Pratice.
Speek No Evil practice spelling too m8
Bruh you had 3 chances to get it right and still managed to misspell the word "practice"
Ok, her first solo was STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN?!
Gotta say that’s pretty awesome 👏
Even though I’ve been playing guitar for a while now, I’ve only ever played with my acoustic or classical since I didn’t have an electric. I recently just got an electric since I’ve been getting into rock and metal lately and I feel like I have to start back at square one since I’ve rarely used a pick and know little to nothing about playing metal/rock on guitar. It’s so frustrating since I know guitar but I feel like I don’t. This is actually really motivating so thank you!
Here’s a tip, when it comes to rock and metal, especially post hardcore, most is really easy, but really impressive . Like never too late by 3 days grace or Makedammsure by taking back Sunday .
I'm in the same boat, don't sweat it! Been playing guitar for about 10 years (with some periods of laziness lol) but the vast majority of my practice was spent doing finger-style picking and acoustic songwriting just because that's what I gravitated towards at the time. Which is a shame for the real nice Fender American Standard Stratocaster I've had for the last 5 years that's not been getting the love it deserves! But now I've come back to electric I've realised the steep learning curve I've got to navigate, not just with my playing but also amp tone (makes a HUGE difference as someone commented above), effectively using my pedal board, etc. But like you say, videos like this are so motivating because it's absolutely possible with a bit of time, patience and discipline!
Best of luck with your playing! I'm sure we'll be shredding before we know it :-D

It’s just tough getting over that first hump but if you can get through the initial frustration it becomes actually fun to play you’ll start learning quick
@@dr.lyleevans6915 How many people have you seen go through the learning process to determine what average even is? For her age and being self taught she's killing it. The fact she even kept with it is something worth celebrating in itself given how many people put their guitar away when they aren't a rock god in a few months to never touch it again.
Cheers folks, I'm definitely going to keep it up! 🤘I practice whenever I'm able and even when I get frustrated I'm still enjoying learning and can see improvement all the time. I'm learning through online courses at the moment but going to be booking some proper lessons as soon as I can.
I love this video though. Above average or below average doesn't matter. Just seeing that change from someone who can barely string single notes together to being able to play full, awesome sounding solos... and how the full-on concentration and frustration turns to pure enjoyment and happiness... it really is inspirational to somebody like me who thought I'd never be able to play anything more difficult than Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. 😁

Hey! Usually it is ok to hit power chords pretty hard. Are you having issues with extra notes ringing out? One useful thing is to mute the other strings with your first finger at the same time as you are holding down the chord. Otherwise, my usual advice for any struggle is to just slow down the song a lot and work on whatever is tricky and then slowly speed it back up! Best of luck :)
@@RachelfGuitar thank you! Yes, some notes do ring out! :D your advice is appreciated! ^^
Absolutely amazing. I wish I had the dedication needed to pull this off.
her face while she plays makes the video so much more motivational
Wow. Your progress is so impressive. You inspired me to learn play guitar. I bought guitar 1 month ago, and playing gives me so much fun.
That is so cool! Thank you and best of luck with your playing :)
3 years.... BRIAIN MAYS SOLO IN BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY 😍😍
Brian may s solos touches m'y soul
The vibrato she has in that solo.... for someone that’s played for only 3 years, was beautiful
A solo that Freddie wrote
I came here to find Brian May 😂
Happiness laughter and Love11 though I don’t quite like the sound and phrasing, prefer mine with a red special😂
Well done girl, you can tell how much joy playing the guitar brings you. And its nice to see a progression from absolute beginner to a very compotent player, you've done really well

That was an awesome cover.
This is the absolute best motivator for getting off your butt and finally making the move to learn I personally have ever seen. I've always had the yearning to want to learn and I've dabbled here and there but my God is that passion reignited after seeing this video. Thank you so much for posting it was really fascinating watching the progress unfold like that and very very inspiring to see.
The fact that you truly enjoy your playing is so visible in that big smile of yours! That's how it should be. Looking forward for the 4th year progress. Best wishes!
On another note: It was sooooo hard to continue this video after that Sweet child O mine intro (omg sooo annoying... I love Slash but these few notes are like a gateway to everything annoying and beyond), BUT, NEVERTHELESS I still finished the video. I hope some heroic award committee acknowledges my great feat.
I applaud you for making it through 🤣, I agree it is a bit annoying but it was actually a good one to learn. The picking is pretty tricky! Thank you :)
Holy wow!! You are great and you facial expressions are killing it, never stop rocking🤘🤘
I'm a bit worried that you only have 1 shirt in your wardrobe the entire 3 years.
New shirt or new guitar, you choose
@@angelaf1305 xD
They are not the same but hey are soo similar
Shane Fisher it’s obviously a fake video
3 shirts? still not many :)
This was so cute! You were always smiling and enjoying yourself! What an inspiration! And for someone who is self taught, your technique is great! keep at it girlll! :)
You look so happy playing this! I’m so proud of you!
Keep on learning.

Absolutely incredible! I'm about two weeks in... but it looks like you're having as much fun as I am. You look so happy and your music is awesome.
I have loved being along for this ride. Your smile always makes it time worthy spent. Subbed till the bitter end!
Thanks so much for staying around!
lol that picture is from Chad kroeger from nickelback
I love the smile of joy on her face whenever she plays, I catch myself doing the same thing. Passion
It’s really fun when you track your self and see how much you have improved keep rocking 🤘🏻
Only with the internet?!?!? May I ask who's channel you recommend I've been trying to teach myself

That was so great, I was smiling through the whole video. Amazing progress, keep going! I really liked your own songwriting! I applaud you.
It was because of your 1 year video I started playing the guitar. I'm almost two years in! 😊
