This young lady has inspired me to begin and learn to play at 51. Wanted to since I was a teen in the 80s watching EVH and other greats. Thank you Miss 😊
@@dougp5044 This young lady proved you can do it when you have fun with it. Got my first guitar at 25, and it's been waiting here for me all these years. One chord at a time. I'll come back here to check on your progress periodically.
I wish i could do this but when my familys home i feel like everybodys judging me so i have to wait to be home alone and that just really doesn’t give me enough practice time bc its not often😂😂😭
For those of you saying "oh I wish I could be that good" the first step to achieving that is to enable yourself and say "oh i could do that" and actually practice.
Only a guitar player realizes how fast she actually improved. I mean cmon.. 2 weeks in and she already has her A and D chord down without too much effort.
@LisTer TwisTer Im not too sure about how long it took me to learn a few chords but I got the A E D Am Em Dm G C down on like 3 weeks. The only problem that still consists after 9 weeks is that I have a lot of trouble switching between them consistently on a fast pace. I always fuck up something. @@tunod- don't give up man! I am 13 and can easily play creeping death, MOP and most of slipknot...on an acoustic. Yea, don't give up on the guitar. You may feel discouraged by your progress. But carry on. Pick something that is more your speed. And most importantly, don't give up!
Seeing this makes me depressed lol. Two years later, and I'm still struggling with the basics. The dedication you must have to committed, many-hour daily practices. Well done.
You don't have to practice for hours every day. Set aside 20 minutes a day - yes, only 20 minutes. That adds up fast, and you will improve at a good pace. True, the more time you spend, the faster you'll get better, but many people just don't have an hour or more a day, so some practice time is better than none. The important part is to make it a consistent habit, so even 15-20 minutes a day when done as a habit will get the job done. It also helps immensely to have a good teacher. Have fun and good luck!
Don’t worry I played for a year and a half but now I’m learning guitar lmao I learned smells like teen spirit solo in 2 days and purple haze in 2 days but you will get there
don't feel bad. I've been taking guitar lessons at a music store but am currently still a beginner after 5 years of learning, lessons each Thursday at every week.

You're not trying hard enough. Since the first day I played guitar not a single day has passed without me playing atleast a few minutes, even after work when I'm so tired and busy. On my off days I may practice 4 hours or even more. You should know all your main open chords (including F) within 3 months. Hold the chord while you watch TV or listen to music. Just hold that position for 30 minutes or more, dont even strum. Make your hand get use to holding that shape. You have to think "im going to do this if my fingers bleed and it literally kills me." Its all about how bad do you really want to do this. I'm not bragging, I'm not a great player. I'm trying to tell any beginners reading this to push yourself to your limit. if someone else can do it then you can too. Maybe not now but eventually.
So in 4 years, she just looks the same with no sign of aging? This video is definitely fake and the whole "1st-week footage" was just her current self holding herself back lol. Forged video for some viral goals, but it's sad to know that actual guitar beginners will bite into the lie and think that in one year, they'll sound exactly like "she sounded in one year." To constantly film herself for 4 years straight with the "someone will watch me publicly" demeanor and sign on her face, it's just full bs.
@@costinvaly1 she’s an adult how much is really gonna change in 4 years?? Also she clearly did change. Also the camera quality and overall quality and vibe of her videos changed over the clips. It’s not like she just posted clips from the same day and changed her clothes guitar, amps, playing style etc. She clearly did progress. Her entire channel is of her playing guitar it’s not like she faked this one video. Can’t you just let her have her moment?
@@thegreyladm8547 You're the kind of customer I love in my marketing and mass com. Profession because you're the easiest ones to convince. With a Ph.D. in this field, do you think I really can't tell fake videos from the real ones when I've helped customers forge ads and promos with this same "x years transformation" concept and creating factors that would make it believable? This is the most accessible kind of video to forge, so I'm not surprised that even amateurs can do it out of fame goals and going viral. Pretty understandable. I'm also a piano player; I grew up with it, shoved down my throat by my parents, and just two years ago, I started learning guitar as an adult with my already existing music theory knowledge, practicing 2 hours a day, every day including weekend under my brother's lead (he's teaching guitar). I'm nowhere near the performance she had at nine months in. Also, my brother confirmed the same thing about the integrity of her video.
I wish I had your consistency. I bought a guitar 1yr ago and done some lessons with a teacher but Couldnt continue because of pandemics. You’re the proof that self-thaught is possible. I’ll be more realistic and I’ll give myself 3 years from now.
She was as good after one year as I was after 10 years. Guess thats what actually playing and PRACTICING does, instead of playing the same songs on easymode over and over again and taking weeks off at a time.....
It's likely a faked progress. The first 3 months are fine, maybe you can think she progressed very fast, but it's still doable. But suddenly her skills skyrocketed after 5 months. That's NOT realistic unless you pour hours and hours of training every single day, sweep picking is really hard to learn, and the sound when she plays is completely clear. That's also unrealistic. And that Ibanez Prestige after 7 months of practice... come on. The video is cool and this girl is really good at playing guitar. But this progress is a total fake.
@@Gravewurm lol wtf are you on about, that 5 month mark was very, very clearly a beginner playing guitar, it was good for the amount of time she had played but not "good" under any stretch of the imagination. And that "sweep picking" was also very clearly someone who has just started learning to sweep, nothing crazy. Anyone who has tried learning to sweep can tell you that sweeping is difficult and it's probably better to begin learning sooner rather than later. As for the Prestige after 7 months; some people earn a good living and can afford nice things, who would have thought? Some people's first guitars cost more than my entire collection. You honestly just come off as really salty.
@@Gravewurm you would be surprised, my first tutor had played guitar over 10 years and within 18 months he told me he can not teach me anything else because now I know more than he does and proceeded to ask me how to do certain things. Its a strange feeling for some people on guitar its hard for me to explain its like it becomes part of some people. Like its not playing the guitar like its a guitar instead it becomes like magic part of me that I can push emotions through
@@Gravewurm okay, I have a prs custom 24 as well as a prs mt15 amp, a prs archon amp, a 4x12 cabinet with 2 v30's and 2 wgs reapers (I like how the 2 speakers sound combined) and a bunch of pedals and shit and I have only just started getting into guitar, so not impossible. You can't have that "she's still new at guitar so there is no way she would own anything better than a Squier strat starting out" mentality just because you had a "beginner" setup for your first year. I personally think that its better to buy a midrange to higher priced guitar and amp setup in the beginning because not only will you likely be more inclined to learn on nicer equipment than "beginner" equipment, but you'll also be more inclined to continue using your setup even after you've advanced to being able to really play. I believe I'd be more inclined to learn if I had a $1k-3k guitar over a Squier or some offbrand guitar with shitty quality control and an overall sub par sound and feel, which is exactly why I decided to go with good stuff with my setup. That's just my opinion though. They're like assholes, everyone has one.
I love how in the beginning you were so serious and concentrating. Then as it started to come easy the joy on your face is inspiring! I am about 4 years in and I am no where close to your level. but when I do play something that sounds great I get a big ol smile!
That happens because we want to play EVERYTHING perfectly, and she just wants to play,so if her just play she has more time to be better at the entire song,And is just being good at some part of the songh
@@anakemeadow Pretty good. I can read music and tabs pretty well, I know a few scales and can fully play a few different songs with the track. I also know more than a few riffs.
People sharing their learning experience like she was gifted with the ability to play when in reality she just put more work into learning and playing then you. You see it in the first year, her hands go from "virgin" hands to shredding vainy hands. That only comes with thousands of hours of practice time, you have to want to pearn how to play more then anything else to progress like this. Its not about the years. Its about the hours. Put in at least an hour a day and you will see results fairly quickly. You can play a 100 or a 1000 hours throughout 1 year, and people will still say they played for a year. Years mean nothing. It's the hours that count. :D
@@leonandersen7276 I know that years don't count as much as hours, but years give an idea of how good someone is at playing the guitar. It's kinda "weird" to see for example someone who plays for more than 10 years and is bad at guitar.
This is the inspiration I needed today after ordering my first electric guitar at the age of 33. I don't think my progress will be as fast (or good), but damn does this make me excited to get into it. There's so many videos of people just magically getting good, but it's missing all the inbetween struggles, and I just know learning anything new isn't that easy. Bought a Gretsch G5220 in jade grey btw. Wish me luck :3
How's the progress? I started playing as a middle aged dad, and progress is painfully slow compared to children. Between time constraints, other priorities, and older brain syndrome, it just takes time. Totally worth it though. It took me several years (inconsistent practice, no lessons, no one to jam with, etc.) to really sound musical, but I stuck with it, and now I get to make "guitar faces" while I play!

Hey all, thank you so much for being a part of my journey! This year I decided to include a more even number of clips from each year, but I still couldn't include everything! Song list of all the songs I played in this video is in the description :). Also, hope you enjoy the solo at the end of the video! It's one I attempted a long time ago but gave up on and then decided to try again this year. My 7 y/o daughter just started playing. Cant wait for her to get to the point that we can jam together. Right now its all about the basics. Great job and amazing progress! Dont ever stop.
As long as it is a good guitar that is setup properly, sounds decent and feels good to play its probably the way you should do it. Having too much stuff is not good and I would have like 2 to 3 guitars just for different tunings.
i know from experience... guitar will and should take over the soul especially the better and better you get and you start realizing it. i go to work and all i think about is going home and making beautiful sounds with wood and wire
Yep, when you start to know what you are doing it is fun to just sit back and play. Everyone starts off not really sure if they will be able to get the hang of it. I can tell you that 99% of all people in the world will be able to pick up a guitar if they just practice and do it because it is fun.
it’s interesting to see how the genres we play affect the skills we develop. As i’m more into classic rock and blues stuff, I think i add a little more feel to it and have a better vibrato but i defintely can’t play as fast as she does and i’m also not that great at rythym guitar as she is because of metal music
I have trouble with chords.. when I was 21 I got my finger caught in machinery and mangled it pretty good.. it healed well but my underside of that finger is pretty thick now and it's constantly muting strings making chords sound shitty
Ivar Strange How hard thut must be. Just practice and find a way to enphasise your strengths. I recently cut my finger with a knife,15 days without guitar, just hoping it doesn’t bother my playing after it heals. Cheers bro!
@@ivarstrange6959 I think everybody has something. That is why ypu see people with such "strange" and "odd" picking techniques or ways of playing chords or whatever it may be. This is mad inspiring. My grandmother bought me my first guitar a Squier bullet strat. I was around 11 and never really did much with it. Fast forward now (I'm 22) I've decided I wanna take it seriously. I got myself a nice Ibanez for Christmas and I've been practicing ever since. I'm progressing really well. I put in a minimum of 2-3 hrs a day. In 2 months of learning I've made a lot of progress
Set aside a mere ONE hour, four days a week. You'll probably improve significantly in 6 months.

On my off days I may practice 4 hours or even more. You should know all your main open chords (including F) within 3 months. Hold the chord while you watch TV or listen to music. So in 4 years, she just looks the same with no sign of aging? This video is definitely fake and the whole "1st-week footage" was just her current self holding herself back lol. To constantly film herself for 4 years straight with the "someone will watch me publicly" demeanor and sign on her face, it's just full bs.

It was a challenge for me to get it up to speed and, while there is still room for improvement, I feel a lot more confident now in my bends and hammer-ons/pull-offs :). Look out for a full Trooper cover coming soon! Hmmm, would be interesting to know, how many hours per day she invested.
Would be Very interesting. I started out maybe 3 or 4 months ago, (this is probably not good for my fingers lol) I play 4, maybe 5 hours a day, sometimes less, and I’m progressing pretty good.
It's 40hrs a day
@@wyattlitton3698 i started 5 months ago and i play all day every day. Yes, my fingers hurt.
@@safurairfan6361 if you can play it slow
Considering how fast she improved, I'd say about 2-3 hours per day. Or maybe she has a natural talent.

It depends on What guitar u have, bcs IF u have for example two gibson guitars It’s a lot better than 4 guitars from ibanez

Believe me getting a new guitar is so much fun, it feels like christmas
As long as it is a good guitar that is setup properly, sounds decent and feels good to play its probably the way you should do it. Having too much stuff is not good and I would have like 2 to 3 guitars just for different tunings.
Your guitar must be suhr. Its ok, you really dont need another one
When ur Sims first start playing guitar vs when they fill up all their skill bars. 🤘
i know from experience... guitar will and should take over the soul especially the better and better you get and you start realizing it. i go to work and all i think about is going home and making beautiful sounds with wood and wire

You must be fun at parties

Cheers bro!
@@sebastianibanez3206 oh I do keep practicing. It seems I have a problem that affects every instrument I play lol
@@ivarstrange6959 I think everybody has something. That is why ypu see people with such "strange" and "odd" picking techniques or ways of playing chords or whatever it may be. We all just have that one thing that makes a roadblock so we all develop this unique way to deal with it and we all come out with unique ways of playing. It is frustrating but when you finally get it, it is cool because you have this way of playing that fits you and nobody else. Mine was I have a messed up pinky from getting hit by a baseball and it made it very difficult to hammer on and pull of with my pinky strong enough but I really worked on it until I've gotten to a point where it is at least effective, still a long way to go though 7 years in

Thanks so much for sticking around! :)
Its so awesome how guitar playing affects self confidence
Most people overestimate what can be achieved in 4 months but underestimate what can be achieved in 4 years. This is a good example of this. AMAZING PROGRESS!
Watching your videos demonstrating your progression taught me one thing. Take it slow, set realistic goals and just have fun with it. Keep it up Rachel you've come such a long way hope to see another 4 years added!! Thanks for the motivation and showing discipline!
I am going to be 20 in a month, after practicing for almost 1 year with Yousician I managed to progress a lot. Just a little tip from an outsider, I hope it helps you as well as it helped me. It is just like the rock band game from the wii but with a real guitar.
Has it been 4 years? Wow I joined your journey 2 years ago and that has gone fast. I have some good news. I got my old guitar back. I stopped practicing because I didn't like my newer one. I am restating my journey.
Thank you for following along so long! Happy to hear you got back your guitar!

What's funny is a lot of the songs you did were in Guitar Hero and I'm almost wondering if that's where you got a lot of your inspiration (like a lot of us millennial guitar players hahahaha)
Yes for me :)
I'm so happy for you, really. I'm crying now. I have depression and this damn disease has the power to kill our dreams, my dream was to learn guitar. But watching your video, it seems that it is not impossible, I WILL LEARN! That's a promise (sorry for my english)
