What kind of thread is ok to use in the Singer HD and other modern machines? I do sewing on paper (for paper crafts) and since it's only for decoration, I don't really care of the quality of thread. However, I don't want to damage my machine or end up having tension issues. What thread should I use and what thread to stay away from? I just got a few spools of thread at Goodwill. How to check if they're ok to use in my sewing machine?

Don't worry, no thread will damage your machine unless it is the thickest one, which they use for shoes, but in this case, it is not your topic, for crafts you use normal or embroidery thread

Check that the movement of the teeth is correct, if they only go up and down in the same place, the internal gears should be checked
