Ironically, as a beginner, I find way harder to do charge moves than motion moves.

@@nuklearreaxtion here's a tip you wanna do down back all the time when your getting hit,applying pressure,in neutral all of that as a Alex and urien player it does get frustrating when you drop bc you didn't charge properly it's all about timing,and pacing it does take some practice tho. The reason I say keep doing down back is because you're always gonna be able to release the down back motion into the other motion as you press the button for the move to come out its something I do when I wanna do the elbow or head crusher with Alex or chariot tackle and knee drop with urien. I assume you know what down back is but if not just hold crouch while moving the stick in a backwards motion which is good because you wanna be blocking while just in neutral
I agree charge motion are supposed to be easy inputs but anticipation and timing are not that easy To manage

Its crazy I hear this a lot that charge motions are easier to execute than quarter circles and dp motions but I hold the opposite opinion. Especially performing charge motions in combos.

I started with Cammy and still play her and think she's a pretty amazing character for beginners except the being in the air part and knowing when to jump
I debated putting Cammy in this list, but decided that these characters fit the mold better than cammy does. But she is a great character

@@NotJohnnyKim Unfortunately they've nerfed her a little, making her health real low and some of her pokes being mad punishable.
She's still a great character (my favourite in fact), she's good at punishing mistakes and most of her moves are easy to do with little complexity involved.
That tip on the z motion helps so much. I could not do it consistently and while it still isn't perfect it is a lot better than it has been. Earned a sub for it. Thank you!
3:38 that makes a lot of sense now. Me and my dad recently bought sf5 champions edition and play it a lot. I play ryu and he plays ken. This part of the video explains why he is able to attack me and get more hits then ryu can. Thanks man this helped( ps i subscribed, great work)

Interesting Huh I've always believed charges were a bit more advance than pulling off diagonals & quarter circles, I actually play both and also feel charges have the best defense if utilizing them well...to note my legally blind older brother doesn't play charges because it is easier for him to mash diagonals in any direction if he does not know were his opponent is, as long his character has a forward or reverse directional command, he plays cpu only but at times has beaten me hah the new type characters you mentioned in SFV like Ed, has definitely helped my bro up his game
I'm brand spanking new to SFV and I'm coming from Tekken. I instantly fell in love with G. He's so unique and flashy and his moves feel nice to pull off along with his combos. I know he's more advanced but I learned in Tekken that stick with a character you enjoy looking at over ease of use or tier position. If you hate the character then why would you care to get better with them.
I think you have the perfect mindset to learn G. You said it yourself, you instantly fell in the love with G. Play G my man. It will be tough, but you already know that, so you will get through it.
@@NotJohnnyKim thanks man! Yeah I think I will, I like characters who have a high skill ceiling. They allow you to grow into them the more you play so you never get bored. It's like what you said with Guile, you can grow into him and have a long career playing him.

I watched this video to choose my first character way back when I started playing and I still play that character today.
As someone who has played FG on and off. Getting back into them, specially SFV, this is a great starter video well done!
I love using Ed, Gil, Urien, Cammy and Seth! They’re all really fun! Just started SFV recently after a year or so of playing Ultra SF4, and I’m enjoying learning them.
I started using Ibuki. She seemed cool
Ibuki is super sick. There are many things for you to learn on that character, so tons of room for improvement by just googling stuff
Cammy is super good to teach player fundamentals, confirms, not have bad habits... Except of the air things at the beggining.
Rashid was the first character I picked up in SFV he is a fun and great character in the CE🤙🔥💯
I haven't played a street fighter in years but I see Guile's turtling technique is still alive and well lol
I immediately jumped to playing Ryu, he’s easily a great starter character. Can’t go wrong with a shoto.

I’m about to start playing Street fighter (I play Tekken and main Bryan). I really like how Guile looks, reminds me of Bryan too. Luckily you recommend him as good for beginners and also has somewhat same game-plan as Bryan (keep out). So hype for street fighter 6!
I would throw in Cody as an option as well, his command normals are useful and easy to use, he has a 3-4 frame target combo (LPx4) to get you out of some pressure games and an easy punish. Plus his most useful move, the Zonk knuckle, is simply holding punch for 2 seconds (recent updates add a new charge level that adds combo opportunities and somewhat safe on block).
Shoutout to iZonk's video on Cody which goes into more detail on this which helped me greatly in really getting into Ranked mode in SFV.

This is correct. Back then in sf2 new challengers, I 1st used guile then ryu and ken. From there to street fighter all of the alphas I used Dan and akuma then Chun li and Cammy. In SF V I'm yet to discover other of the characters because there are so many of them to choose from and it's great!

i cannot wait to get my qanba drone tomorrow to finally try out these games and invest into a character. i have tekken 7 as well but all i have it a really old 360 controller for my PC and i find keyboard really hard to understand for a fighting game, ive used arcade sticks at friends places before and always found myself playing 100x better in every way, i cannot move correctly on tekken or SV on a controller my hands cramp the controller in such a weird way to be able to combo and wave dash.
Picked up Mika as my first character two days ago, and I’m already doing pretty big combos... I’m just struggling against zoning. Had a guile keep me out the entire game my first game online...

Alex was my first character when I started getting back into it after just sticking with Alex I was like this right here is who I wanna main and although it took some time to get used his charge and command grabs I managed to get out of rookie and make it bronze I'm still on the newer side tho I decided to pick up urien and Cody can't wait to commit some robberies

I started on Ken but seriously wanna play Honda or another grappler. Maybe Zeif? I play grapplers in all my fighting games but some of the inputs are crazy hard in SF and I can pretty much only do ken combos consistently so far.
Blanka is best boy, so I chose him to start with...wasn't my best idea tbh
I have since tried to pick up Laura, Juri, Ryu, Kage, Falke and Poison. Yes, I'm aware I'm likely stretching myself thin, but I do this in every fighting game tbh. I do...ok with Laura, my Juri is meh, haven't played Ryu, Kage, or Falke online yet, and I actually win consistently with Poison. Though tbf, that girl carries me on her shoulders like a damn champ
If you're just trying to have fun with the game, play whoever the heck you want man. Doesn't matter if its 1 or 12 characters.
But if you want to consistently improve, sticking to one character is best
@@NotJohnnyKim well, I've really only just used Laura and Poison online, but I would like to be able to use all of them and be at least decent. Still training with Blanka, and I've been giving Kage some considerable time too
I didn't know Falke can be so simple, I didn't try her yet, just bought the game about a week ago. This game has character for all kinds of players it seems. I have been playing with Ryu and Juri because I thought they were pretty easy and even for a beginner, I managed to climb to bronze in a few days. I was actually expecting to be completely destroyed, but I have a win rate of 37% which I guess it's pretty good for a total noob. But now I'm worried about losing that bronze title, lol, so I'll just play casual until I actually know what I'm doing, because so far I feel like I just got lucky with the button mashing. I'm not a beginner to fighting games but I never played them online before, this is the only one that I decided to try online.
How are you fairing now a days? I actually just decided to try street fighter v cause I got a deal on it. Been sort of struggling to do a lot of the links for moves. Practice makes perfect, though.
Now falke looks worth trying out
Falke is a very interesting character. Definitely worth a shot if she fits your style.

Laura, Cody, Rashid, Dhalsim, Poison, Birdie, and Karin are the easiest charcters to play. If you can zig zag play luke.. If you can charge easy play BISON. Chun li is the easiest charge character. Luke's easiest ZIG ZAG.
If by "for beginners", you mean "character that will take you the farthest with the less effort from scratch", I'd say E. Honda and Abigail... at low level, they're just brainless, just spam hands and sumo smash with Honda, and armored moves with Abigail, you'll reach Gold just like that.
Then, when it comes to the point where pretty much everybody starts to actually know and play the game (defense, neutral, mind games, starting knowing the match-ups etc), then you should probably pick Cammy, Ed, Guile or Luke (and maybe Balrog/Boxer), they have the best ratio easyness/efficiency... and at high level, all those characters are pretty much top tier, so they can take you as far as you want.
If you don't want to learn the game but still want to steal everybody, go for Laura, she basically has like 1 mix-up, but it's so annoying that if you guess wrong like twice, you're dead, when she activates V-Trigger, you're dead.
Falke and Ed are easy for beginners to button presses will always be easier than stick movement

I play streetfighter 5 my character is necalli and my sister's is birdie. I like dhlasim but I don't use that character because dhalsim's legs are big and u can kill the other person easily and its fun fighting instead of just staying at one spot and just keep kicking.
Yeah definitely play what you think is more fun! If playing dhalsim isn’t fun for you, then I see no reason to keep playing him. Necalli is also a great character

i would not recommend guile though for starters not everyone can charge speaking from own experience here
i consider charge to be an intermediate move.
there is no charge in mortal kombat and stuff (which is the easiest game)
To say that charge moves are easier than motion moves is to say that chun li is an easier to use character than Ken
I naturally gravitated to Karin. It’s been a long haul but I’m FINALLY not loosing every match in ranked.

I just got the game from PS+, I really love fighting games, but Street fighter was always hard for me. I used to be really in the story, and Akuma was always called to me. Is he easy? If not Guile was always cool.
Akuma is not terribly difficult in my opinion. You should play whoever you think is cool! I didn't care about how hard akuma was when I decided to play him, and I haven't looked back since.

@@NotJohnnyKim So, tryed out Akuma for free somehow, and he was fun, but hard to use. A tad bit more moves than i thought. Although Ryu is quite enjoyable. Do i have to use every move to be good with a character?
I seem to be very good with Ryu, won quitw a few matches. But I'm trying to find a secondary. Final question! Is Blanka or Sagat easy? They both look fun, without spamming projectiles of course.
@@caleblambert1222 You don't need to use all moves of a character to get good with them. Obviously it would help, but what's more important is to know how to use your moves correctly. Doesn't matter if you have the best move in the game if you use it like trash.
I would highly not recommend a secondary if your primary goal is to improve. Anyways, Blanka and Sagat are both relatively hard characters in their own ways. Blanka is the easier one, but you should just play whoever you like more.

I'm a newbie SFV player coming from Tekken. Would you recommend playing pad if I aspire to be good at this game?
This is actually a great question and a topic I really want to make a video on. Bottom-line is that it literally does not matter. You should play on whatever controller fits your style and you enjoy playing on the most. There are pro players from all over the FGC that use sticks, pads, hitboxes, mixboxes, etc. There's even a guy that uses a steering wheel to play Guilty Gear, if I remember correctly.
To just start, I would play with whatever you have available, so if you have a keyboard, pad, or stick handy and just want to play the game, use that. It will not have a significant impact on how strong you can get at the game.
Also, once you get a feel for the game, you can make a more informed decision on what controller you might enjoy more.
Also, Broly legs plays SFV semi-professionally using a pad WITH HIS MOUTH. You'll be fine using whatever controller you damn well please

Please understand one thing, if a character has charge inputs, it's not beginner friendly, period.
It's the most frustrating, punishing, and unintuitive shit in the entire VS fighting genre.

See almost 99 percent of players always put Cammy on this list but I'm glad you didn't as Cammy has a lot of single hit hit confirms, all her moves are unsafe that you confirm to so you have to make sure you don't make mistakes, she has 900 health so she dies quick and instant air drills can be tricky for a beginner to do. I think she's very easy at the top level of play not beginning
I was actually thinking about putting Cammy on this list but the other characters on the list seemed more appropriate. But you raise a good argument
i think ibuki is pretty good for beginners, especially me
her l, m and h punches can form a 3 hit combo from how fast they are
she has a dash special that can pull you behind your opponent, opening up lots of combo opportunities
close range but very fast command grabs and projectiles (e.g. raida, kunai)
On keyboard, I have issues performing charge moves. Are there any great motion characters I can play in this game? (Besides Sagat, G, Cammy and shotos)
That's interesting, since keyboard/hitbox inputs are supposed to be great for charge motion characters.
For that, I would look for a character that interests you outside of gameplay. You can try to look up characters that are not charge motion, and go from there.

@@mr_0n10n5 Switching characters might help you improve, but only if you stick to that character and improve on that one character. I really discourage players below diamond to play more than one character, because you don't need character matchups to beat people, and playing multiple characters at the same time can drastically hinder your growth.

Yes! I am the exact same way. There is nothing weird about charge characters feeling hard to use.
Blanka, I’m a silver-at-best Ryu and Ken. Made it into super gold with Blanka quickly, still a scrub, but that’s a big leap ...uwuuuu

He is my main character.
When I play against someone whom higher than me in rank most of the time they use only use 2 moves against me, 80% of online players are pathetic who use just few moves only.

I think Guile, like every other character, is hard to play at the top level because of the all the little nuances, but at a basic level, his gameplay is very simple.

I can't say who is really similar to Ibuki well since I don't know the character very well. What about Ibuki do you like? And what about Lucia interests you?
NotJohnnyKim I like how Ibuki is quick but simple to use. She can be a rush down character and takes more thinking for her approach since she has no projectiles like Ryu. Also no real complex combos, and good enough to do some decent damage.
Lucia, is again seems like a rush down. I tried some combos with her and they seem simple to pull off mainly 3 inputs. Overall I like her unique zoning and fire effects but she seems more stable rushdown Than a glass like ibuki.
@@n64central If Lucia interests you, you should just try her out! Nothing wrong with taking your time to figure out what character works for you. I didn't pick up Akuma until about 8 months into my SFV career.
If I were to suggest anyone, I would say Seth. She has a lot of the things you said, but is just a very strong character overall. She can be very difficult to pick up though, so take this with a grain of salt.
We'll prob be lucky to get all the characters without shelling out cash.
The only true beginner character is Cammy with her completely doable combos. I reached gold with her, but I have no idea how you play other characters. Sakura's basic combos still give me nightmares. She plays like you're controlling an airplane, no joke. Her extremely slow poke makes her weak to jump-ins. Ryu basic combo doesn't give a knockdown (what), so you should use donkey kick wich is HARD. And Ken's combos are just trash where second kick may whiff if an opponent is crouching. Or you can choose a target nonsense which is heavily punishable.
Like wtf, are these really beginner characters? I can't do basic stuff with them.
Difficulty of combos is not the same as not being beginner-friendly.

Why isnt cody on this list
I personally find Cody’s input method unintuitive, but the real answer is that he just didn’t make the cut. He is great for beginners, but not as beneficial to play as these characters, IMO
I’m actually better with non- charge move characters
Street fighter v is bs I’m getting punished for hitting light attacks my moves won’t link the combos in trials are not viable and half of them require moves not listed and on top of that the tutorial only teaches you how to move and defend I just started playing online and apparently all the bronze players are pros because the narrator keeps saying my win loss ratio is 3 and 50 someone explain how this game is beginner friendly because I’m not having fun playing this game which I love to watch but can’t play
