this moment was so powerful and deep for me for some reason. benrey is being his usual confused and not really caring self, just suddenly noticing someone shooting at him, with his voice not changing at all, like he's just getting bit by a mosquito, and Freeman's triumphant, almost heroic-sounding scream, all because he's finally gotten the chance of beating the one who hurt him the most- Freeman feels himself to be the hero of the story, the one who's gonna beat the final boss, and Benrey is just.. there, he never wanted to be a final boss or to be evil really, throughout this whole thing he was just being himself and was made into the main villain almost against his will, this perfectly encapsulates the nature of both characters

I feel like Benry was never evil. Gordon just became suspicious of him and believed him to be evil. When Benry realized this he acted out the Evil because he wanted to fit in with how the player (Gordon) saw him.

Vedji A full on Forzen boss fight would’ve been so fucking funny. I imagine it being a very toned down version of Benrey’s.
FakeBlue I could see Forzen breaking the game and acknowledging that this is Garry’s Mod and not Half Life Source proper, and spawning a shit ton of HL2 NPCs (retail and beta), boss mods, SCPs, and even a shit ton of Coomer clones with Cremator animations.
I feel like overall, Benrey and Forzen were definitely the weakest recurring characters, though Benrey did have some moments and he did pull it back together by the end.

Honestly having the main villain not be some some grand, hammy scientist or some psychic alien and instead be a random dude who just doesn't care about anything around him and speaks in the most monotone of voices was such a good idea in comparison to the rest of the Science team. Everyone else is so bombastic and wild and Benry is just some...disaffected god. I love it. He's funny and also creepy in a way I haven't seen before.

Gordon in-universe is a human gamer doing some hard roleplaying as Gordon Freeman in a weird copy of Half Life VR.
Benrey in-universe is a maverick AI who has taken the persona of a human gamer.

Benry best villain. He was just misunderstood by everyone. He was an asshole but he wasn't evil. He didn't attack first. Gordon did.
Imagine an alternative universe in which Benrey was with the good guys and Dr Coomer was the final boss. It would have been super sad o my god what have I done to myself
According to their behind the scenes, had Bubby not rolled with the whole passport thing and not allowed Benrey in, Coomer and Tommy would have been the villains.

Headcannon:
Because Half life Vr but the AI is self aware is a corrupt version of the original game, the game itself needs a boss battle to compensate for the originals game equivalent: The Nihilanth is unable to be used because of the already corrupt system beforehand, and the fact that Benrey probably has access to all of the Code ,and Gordon’s computer files.
So the game substitutes one of the NPCS as the boss, Benrey most likely having the coding of a solider like Frozen, has an aggressive AI level, so the game uses him as the final boss because he is the most aggressive out of all the self aware characters we see throughout the game, and in turns into the villain at the last moment by manipulating the games files to be able to No-clip, fly, spawn objects, but doesn’t know how to properly edit parts of the coding, making his vulnerable to the passports being destroyed.
Another headcannon is Benrey since the installation of the game knew that it wasn’t real, he just didn’t care. Dr Coomer takes more time because he is a semi corrupt character, and the other characters seem to not be aware of the life they live fabricated, if Benrey has access to Gordon’s computer it would make perfect sense why he know psn is and Heavenly sword... I’m not too sure about the rest of the science team and their knowledge of Wikipedia and such.

i tend to like the fan canon that benry was just a bugged normal npc guard at first having anti piracy code infused in him because of the unstable beta status of this half life thus asking for a "passport" which dosent exist in game.
but because this version of half gives each NPC a chance to learn and become sentient threw player internaction this annoying BUG made benry seem insane and ANNOYING to the player thus making the benry ai act more and more illogical "buggy" and contiune to have the same dead robotic monotone voice which created a self propegating loop.
it makes the final boss fight make more since and be more sad benry literally didnt want to do this didnt want to be the badguy he wanted to be the players friend like all the other "Learning" npcs but a bug robbed him of his first impersion and assured no matter what benry wanted he would become alien like villian of the story it also explains why benry seems to be glitching in xilanth because he wasnt supposed to be there but because the player feared and hated benry more then the orginal boss benry overwrote him becoming the sentient malecvolent eldritch being gordon was SURE he was.

Gordon Freeman: The Player
Dr Coomer: friendly tutorial AI. Being a tutorial npc gives Dr Coomer access to many different game functions that he more freely taps into when he gains sentience. Being the tutorial AI is also the reason Dr Coomer is so fond of the player and forms a Best Friendship with them, as the tutorial AI is the same throughout the whole game.
Dr Bubby: corrupted Kleiner npc. Bubby wasn't supposed to exist, instead supposed to be kleiner, but corruption in the program caused the game to continuously spawn kleiner models with incorrect AI pathfinding, hence the prototypes. Bubby was the best version of the AI the game was pulling from thus causing the spawn logic loop to end with him
Tommy Coolatta/Dr Darnold: background npc. Tommy is an npc the player wasn't even supposed to interact with. Tommy was an npc the player would see in a room behind glass. Upon interacting with Tommy, who was spawned outside of his intended zone, the game had to randomly generate a personality from the already established AI program pool. This is also where darnold came from.
Benrey Stong/Forzen: faulty friendly/enemy AI. Benrey was supposed to function the same way as a normal black mesa security guard. He would be friendly but shoot the player once friendly fire was inflicted. Instead benreys AI bugged out and fluctuated in response to the players response to an ID check. Unfortunately, this ID check is false because parts of the anti-piracy code was unintentionally leaked into benreys code and is therefore, not an actual part of the game. This also causes benrey to experience change in identity, like becoming forzen, which drives him insane due to the development of the AIs sentience. The final nail in the coffin was the resonance cascade, a scene that was meant for only the player to comprehend. This ends up blasting benreys code with the entire source code, giving him access to even more than Dr Coomer.
P.S. Dr Coomers sentience was gained by interacting with his more faulty friends.
What about sunkist, gman and the three sentient soldiers?

The soldiers are benrey suffering from personality disassociation because of his faulty friend/foe AI
Gman is the same as the normal game, but through him the game tries to make sense of the changes caused by the faulty AI.
@@jhonnoilcringeincarnato8593 Going by this headcanon then Sunkist and Gman's relation to Tommy were part of an easter egg that got corrupted. Gman taking Gordon to Chuck-E-Cheese (as well as the soldiers' use of beyblades to lure Tommy and the final one's obsession with clearing the name of not!AVGN) was probably also corruption fusing with data about real-world stuff found on the player's computer, such as images and text about parties at C-E-C and stuff about Irate Gamer being a clone of AVGN.
Probably also explains why Benrey was hyped for Heavenly Sword and often talked about his PlayStation - stuff about it was also found on the computer and read during the corruption. AR2 and its ball projectiles are seen because this is HL:S which uses HL2's base code. Gordon getting his stump replaced with a minigun is because the game didn't know how to compensate for the player lacking a weapon, choosing body horror instead of just normally replacing his hand because of the chaos occuring in the code. Same idea with Coomer trying to point the player towards using a minimap, something that does not exist in the game.
TL;DR HLVRbtAIiSA is just "Half-Life VR but I accidentally the npcs and they learnt about stuff on my pc and went insane"

I love how they included Gun Devil Mode but hate how they forgot about Gold HEV suit

You reached the Lambda Lab! Your time is: One Day and Four Hours. You must get to the Lambda Lab in Four Hours to receive Gold HEV suit!
He may have actually unlocked the Gold HEV suit. Keep in mind that Coomer teleported him to the final boss chamber, therefore beating the entire game in less than a second, beating the ghost and unlocking the Gold HEV suit. This could've been a reason why Benrey was defeated in the end
What an absolute ride that series was. There wasn't a single moment that wasn't great. I look forward to what craziness they make for Half Life 2 VR since they said they're definitely doing it

Honestly, I'm not really the biggest fan of the headcannon that Benrey got turned evil somehow, but I gotta give credit where credit's due: the line "You forced me to be bad, so now I'm gonna be bad" is fucking badass
I love the idea that Benry is this almost omniscient/all-powerful being that's not completely aware or conscious of anything, somewhat confused and emotionless. Kinda like Dr. Manhattan, and he doesn't really remember or think, forging fake memories, and living in the moment, if that makes sense.
The best part of this fight was that the final hit that actually did Benrey in was Gordon bitch-smacking him with his gunarm, which was previously shown to be the only thing Gordon could do to Benrey that had any effect. tbh with half life 2, part of me is interested if they'll bring back good ol coomer, bubby and tommy, or forget them a bit. 5 bucks for a play coin doesn't sound like that much, but once you kill the U.S. Military chances to get money become scarce (and once you enter Xen money becomes useless), and your only source of playcoins will be the beehand soldiers & skelereys, and even then their chances of dropping playcoins is like 1%.
I just finished watching all the videos and I gotta say Benrey is probably the most well unintentionally written person I have ever seen , like his goals were normal and pure but Gordon rolls up without his passport. Benrey was only doing his job , he just wanted to play Heavenly swords with his friend , maybe now he'll finally get his chance.

Idea: Benrey is Porky. Benrey was apparently a friend to before the events of HLVRAI (Gordon’s reaction in the streams could just be Wayne reacting RADICALLY different to how a character in universe would act) and initially only reacted formally, he just asked Gordon about his passport, but then Gordon started shunning him, which resulted in Benrey taking on the persona of a villain just because Gordon saw him as an enemy, while Porky’s only friend left him to go on his big adventure, Porky delved into dangerous territories and ended up corrupted by the Mani Mani Statue becoming an enemy to Ness. It all makes sense.
•Tomorrow, I, Benrey, will tell you all about the “resonance cascade”!

In 10 years from now, I will watch the live stream footage again, and have the biggest nostalgia hit. This series has been the light in the dark tunnel that is 2020. I know some people have had such hardships this year, and some might have completely lost hope. But with things like this, things that give us joy, it shows us we can survive 2020, and any other hardships that come our way. So if anyone who feels like they can create something as good as the half life AI series, or maybe even better, that is reading this, go for it. Make things better, or at least make people feel better. Every little bit helps. We can do this.
By then, with any luck, they'll have done HL2, and the expansions and episodes. They're already working on HL2VRAI. I'm hoping they also go back and do Opposing Forces, Blue Shift and Decay

I really hope that if Wayne decides on continuing this series into Half-Life 2, in any way shape or form that the characters we've grown to love will return like Dr. Coomer, Bubby, Tommy and even Benrey if he comes back from the dead.

I personally think that Benry wasnt an AI or magic or anything like that. Hes another player like Gordon. Thats why he can do all of this stuff. "Gordon" accidently set his game to multiplayer and Benry joined just to fuck with him.
The problem with that is that the show takes place not in garry's mod but in a modified version of half life or half life source, so that doesn't really match up. Nice headcanon though.
