Yes, it is possible. You will need to create a content type, add a multiline text field and enable the allow unlimited length in document libraries setting.

You can do a workflow that reads the latest value into another column which does not have the Append Changes setting.

I have appended changes to text but now I am unable to export the comments entered in that particular column to excel. Please help
