      @@Damianblf Damian, I wanted to tell you that of all the big-name guitarists who've listed Berry as an inspiration (John, Paul, George, Keef, Ronnie, Setzer, and long list of etc's...), you're the only one who has played it spot on as Chuck Berry did without adding or substituting a phrase or getting the timing screwed up. All of these cats are legendary but YOU, Sir, are the first person I've ever heard who could nail those phrases just like they sounded on the old Chess 45's.
      Just wanted to let you know, I hear the difference. Keep Rockin'!

    When learning this years ago I was interested to hear that the intro is a combination of two guitar parts. The guitar that plays the first four bars goes on to play the rhythm part with the second guitar part taking over the lead at bar five.

    Hi Damian. On the bends, you actually let them go down a tiny bit before striking the next string. Is that what he does on the original? Thanx much 😎

    • @Damianblf
      @Damianblf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm bending fully on the G string and then releasing my finger as I strike the B string at the same time. When I let go of the G string you can't hear the string coming down in pitch because I'm no longer playing the note. The lesson is accurate to how Chuck played the intro. Thanks for watching. :)

  • @davidsmith-hb1jx
    @davidsmith-hb1jx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Technical question. Not a criticism. Why did you go with the telecaster on this one. I think Chuck played an es295 (or similar model) on his early recordings. I think he then switched to the es335 by the mid sixties.

    • @theartfuldodger935
      @theartfuldodger935 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the notes or technique changed when playing an ES-295 vs. a Tele, I'd say you had a point.

    • @Damianblf
      @Damianblf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe on Johnny B. Goode, Chuck used his ES-350TN,. But back to your question. Most of my guitars are strung with very heavy gauge strings and usually with a wound 3rd. But my Tele is always strung with some light gauge strings which would be perfect for the G string bends on this lesson.

  • @dennisschuetzeband

    it starts off the pick up notes and 4 and 1
    and slides into that repetitive lick on the 6th fret .
    the repetitive lick on the 8th fret the snare hits the 1.
    then the snare picks up on 4 and the band joins in on 1 .
    You have to understand the timing or you will train wreck the band .
