+Allen M The game probably had so many moves because they were all leftovers from the previous Wrestlemania 2000 game, the two WCW games, and the Japanese counterparts that were built on this same game engine.
The Japanese games are Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2. They are both excellent. Most people that import the latter, like myself, actually believe it to be superior to No Mercy, even if slightly. But none of these games are too far apart. They are all amazing and easy contenders for the best wrestling game.
Reason for Andre the Giant being in the game is to make up for the absence of the Big Show. You can still create Big Show CAW using Andre's customization. Also this being the first WWF wrestling game to include a legend in the game before that became a norm in future titles.
@@BrianAwesome Because Andre's dead & the Championship storylines used wrestlers that were still alive at the time? So, you had to deal with Steven Richards of Right to Censor in Big Show's position instead.
2k18 is the best wrestling game all time now imo. No Mercy was really good but it would randomly delete the whole process of your game periodically. All the belts you unlocked, hidden characters and everything you spent time winning would just erase for no reason. The only things you could save permanently were your created players if you remember to save them on a memory card. I had multiple different copies of no mercy and they all had this glitch so that counts against it to me..
I am actually going to contact Aki to get the game engine rights and I'm going to make an attempt at making a remastered version stay tuned everybody :-)
The developers would have to change the whole thing in order to make it run on a current generation system. By that I mean re-animating the models, the textures, titantron videos, music, menu screens, sound effects and the gameplay etc . Of course it would have to be re-released as WWE No Mercy due to them losing the rights to the WWF trademark in 2002.
Cattywampus the game barely came out and it's already on your top favorites? I would give it time before you reach these conclusions. You're just high on it right now cuz it's new.

This game was pretty damn epic I have to admit. And still holds up to this day! The system was great, and provided years of fun well after the end of N64's time. Then came Smack down HCTP.... What else do I need to say? That game had it all! perfect controls, the perfect system, the greatest roster, an in depth CAW mode, a great season mode, and a bunch of other extremely fun features that make it well worth having in your collection right now. There's nothing like doing a running power bomb off the top of time square onto the top of a limo in traffic, and then that limo exploding from under you. Or dragging your opponent around while riding a motorcycle! lol HCTP is hands down the best in the Smack down series, and pretty much the funnest wrestling game I've ever played. No mercy stands right beside it tho...
This game is SO the greatest wrestling game ever made. it's one of my favorite N64 games of all time. I especially love how unlike the previous games, taunting doesn't get rid of your weapon. I'm so glad this game appeared in the best games list in the final issue of Nintendo Power.
The other great thing about these N64 WWF games is you can make a wrestler who isn’t in the game and they actually blend in with the wrestlers actually in the game! Something that has never been done quite right since.
I recently got the chance to play this for the first time and it without question lives up to the Hype even today. This definitely belongs in the GOAT Tier of Wrestling Games along with other classics GOAT: No Mercy, Shut Your Mouth & HCTP, SVR 2006 & 7, & WWE 2K14

If WWF No Mercy had full entrances like in WrestleMania 2000 this game would've been perfect and would've been my #1 Wrestling Game, that #1 spot belongs to Here Comes The Pain! Thanks for this review Nikateen, I've been rewatching your Wrestling Game reviews, it's been always a blast! 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
You can find this game on emulator, but I always try to play the real thing when possible. If you can find a Nintendo 64 for a good price, then yes it's worth it. Plus, this game isn't very expensive. Hope that helps!
I love this game it’s a lot better than WWF Warzone, WWF Attitude, WWF Smack Down, WWF Smack Down 2, and it’s even a lot better than WWF Wrestlemania 2000. WWF No Mercy has awesome creation options and great gameplay.
Considering the fact that No Mercy is still being modded to this day I would say yes No Mercy is the best wrestling game of all time, 2k games may have the next gen graphics but they don't have the longevity of this iconic game
The only negative about this game is when it would erase the data. It really sucked playing the game for hours, unlocking everything, and then one day finding out it was erased...or right after you won a belt. I remember beating the Hardcore title story and then finding out the data was gone. I didn't turn it off. I beat the mode and went straight to exhibition mode. No title. Other than that, this game was good.
They fixed this and you could get your copy replaced with the new version. We did. The only down-side, was that in the fixed version, they'd also removed the blood. At least in the European version. Fucking Germany...
wheremyhose My game usually gets erase after I unlock everything. It's sad every time it did, but it gave me another reason to play again and clearing Survival Mode for money to unlock everything in the shop.
This one is next on my list. I've avoided it because, as I've said before... I am an entrance mark from WAY back. That said, the roster seems slightly better than WM 2000, it has more venues, running grapples, ladder matches, table matches, and backstage areas, and you can destroy the announce table! I also love the fact that they added in a "Ho" to purchase. Can you imagine if they tried to add something like that into a current game? Oh yeah... "Estranged", anyone? Great choice for the outtro. Was that you hitting the keys? I've seen you drum, so makes me think it may have been you. I'm a guitarist, and I can play the keyboard too. Musicianship is FAR nerdier than people give it credit for!
100% the best wrestling game ever made! It was a match made in heaven... The N64 had its hands full with the Dreamcast, and the PS1 out, but Nintendo had em fighting for dear life!
What a game. The gold standard. I remember getting this with such a sense of anticipation which I think was because of a combination of how good WM 2000 was and how hot the WWF was in the year 2000.
The thing that bothered me the most is when playing Survival mode, each time someone runs into the ring, the camera zooms in on that character. When doing so, the fighting in the ring stops for about 3 seconds.
I think the entrance cuts were made to add things like creating wrestlers making the game play better and the roster and adding a better career mode. They had to draw the line somewhere. And at least it still has entrances and theme music. They could have just done without them completely like in Smackdown. This game is a great complete package even if in some ways I think Wrestlemania 2000 is slightly better for it. No Mercy is the overall more complete game but Wrestlemania had slightly better presentation. Both games are still so great!
They didn't go without them. Yukes just did their entrances differently than AKI. AKI did it realistically, whereas Yukes had their wrestlers on the Playstation Smackdown games come out in front of a green screen playing their real life Titantron video & theme song and do their signature pose.
Great review. Never played any wrestling game on the Nintendo 64. I was the Playstation guy. But it sure keeps me interested in buying this system, when I see your reviews for all the awesome wrestling games on this console.
Gosh i had totally forgot they cut entrances in half in this game... which tells you how fun the gameplay was and i remember i wanted the best entrances possible as it complete the package so nicely!
The only 2 downsides to this game were the lack of complete entrances and how Career mode could be a bitch to beat at times, especially handicap or multi man matches. I still have it as my 2nd favorite WWE game after HCTP.
There are much more downsides to this game ....... for example : - in the Royal Rumble are no more than 4 wrestlers at the same time in the ring , for me it looks too empty . - I want divas in my game , for me are even in wwe 2k19 not enough divas in the game . - it's not possible to play 4 vs 4 elimination matches like in the Survivor Series . - the graphics , for me it's important because wrestling is about visual and show .
I really wish WWF Backlash was finished. That would’ve been my favorite wrestling game ever. But for now, it will always be No Mercy and Here Comes The Pain for me.
My top 5 greatest wrestling games of all time: Smackdown here comes the pain, Day of Reckoning 2, WWF No Mercy, Wrestlemania 2000 and Smackdown vs Raw 2006
I had gone off my n64 by the time this came out and was onto ps1 fully, i would have loved this game as I was a huge fan of revenge. Kudos for the estranged piano piece towards the end.
I feel like the entrances were reduced due to the fact that during multi-player, we would always skip the intros in 2000. It's like once you've seen them all its like, ok let's do this already. I missed the option of watching them or skipping them though.
Just bought an N64 with No Mercy on eBay, been looking at buying an other N64 for a while now so decided to go for it. The first console I had was the Mega Drive but it was the N64 that really made me appreciate gaming and got me into the hobby. So, so many memories of gaming on my N64. A brilliant system.
I remember saving my paper route money to buy all available wrestling games for n64 and ps1 back in the day. NWO world tour was sick and always wished they made a wwf game the same.....then they Did!! What a time for wrestling and gaming indeed. 20 years later and they can't come close to how good they had it.
WCW vs NWO, Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000, and No Mercy were wrestling video game perfection IMO, and each iteration just added more that made them the undisputed kings of the genre to this day. The animations were so good, the speed was just right, and everything had a perfect scale and weight. Starting with the Smackdown series wrestling games lost that feeling. Everything feels too fast and floaty since then, and you don't feel the impact of the fighting and environment as much. The other benefit those games had over their games was the culture of wrestling during that era. We still had things like great hardcore matches, crazy stables, and the rosters of the late WCW and Attitude Era WWF were amazing. I feel so lucky to be a kid/ teenager during those times and to play this game series in its prime.
18 years later... I still ache for the unreleased sequel to No Mercy, which was rumoured to be called Backlash. I just know it would have been the greatest wrestling game ever to this day. My life will never be complete :(
Great review man..i agree the entrances are the ONLY flaw..i remember getting this on Christmas eve the year it came out..i still love wreatlemania 2000 also..even wcw revenge..wrestling was at its finest during these times and that will never change..
Hey Tyson! I agree! All are great games-i have all 3! I gotta say-no mercy is still no.1! No other wrestling game has touched it since-and I've played em all pretty much. Whaddya reckon?
At this point I wasn't watching WWF that much but my brother and I poured hours upon hours into this! We altered so many characters to look like Street Fighters, the Punch Out! cast, Double Dragon, and all kinds! Sure they didn't look perfect but we did the best we could.
I can almost swear that there were 2 versions of the game. I recall that the first time my brother and I owned WWF No Mercy it was full entrances. Then my Mom made us sell it to get some money for a GameCube. When we purcased the game again a few years later it had the shorter entrances.
I always thought Smackdown 2 3 and 4 were better. I enjoyed Revenge/Wrestlemania 2000/No Mercy but those smackdown games just captured my imagination. Good times
As for some of the things like the music in the Titantron is not showing on the Tron I think I might have been a combination of Developmental and system limitations especially with the cartridge size at the time but yeah the game is fun as hell but I don't remember it running at 24 frames per second if my emulator is correct unless I'm just on a potato of a system
Yes it is the best, ive owned revenge and world tour since the 1st month they were out and acquired WM2000 and and no mercy at a later date but I remember renting it multiple times as a kid spending HOURS kicking ass. Still play it to this day sometimes.
Great Review. Although I find it hard to believe you didn't talk about the save data bug. That damn thing frustrated me so much when I played this game.
I was addicted to this game as a kid, I got it the 1st day it came out . SO many months spent on this game . Nostalgia at its finest.

There are much more downsides to this game ....... for example :
- in the Royal Rumble are no more than 4 wrestlers at the same time in the ring , for me it looks too empty .
I missed the option of watching them or skipping them though.
he kicked that out!!!! he kicked that out!!!! he kicked out!!!! lmao J.R.

@@phenomenalonegaming4843 that was Jim Ross that said He kicked out he Kicked Out He Kicked Out!!!

I hope you do other wrestling games.
Thank you! Yes, I will continue to make more wrestling reviews. In the meanwhile, check out some of my previous wrestling reviews.
Full entrances can be found using a Gameshark, as well as Big Show's face
I like your modern y2j . Almost the save us attire. Good job. Games had great editing
Love the use of Estranged at the end 👌🤘
This brings back good memories, I remember dying for this game... Good review.
You should have way more views you are one of the few channels I look forward to seeing your new videos you are great!
I feel so lucky to be a kid/ teenager during those times and to play this game series in its prime.
youve earned a subscriber my friend this was a childhood favorite
This and war zone were my favorites
+TysonD916 Those games were the best wrestling games and still are today.
Day of Reckoning is the closest to achieving No Mercy.
The real shame is there was supposed to be one more game (WWF Backlash) but it was cancelled when focus shifted from the Nintendo 64 to the Gamecube.
Is the switch re-releasing classics like this? They should really expand on the 64 collection.
Yes it is the best, ive owned revenge and world tour since the 1st month they were out and acquired WM2000 and and no mercy at a later date but I remember renting it multiple times as a kid spending HOURS kicking ass. Still play it to this day sometimes.
It’s definitely the best of its generation, but I only consider it to 2nd best ever. To me, the best is “Smackdown: Here comes the Pain”.
Great Review. Although I find it hard to believe you didn't talk about the save data bug. That damn thing frustrated me so much when I played this game.
The bar was there because of the APA storyline around the time of them always being in bars and being a protection agency
@Nikateen straight up if you were stuck in a island and only had to pick between WWF No Mercy or Smackdown Here Comes The Pain ?
at 7:19 is allen thicke the ic champion?
Absolutely the greatest of all time I still play it to the the day 17 years after I first played it when it came out
besides short entrances , this game is just amazing.
Cameron's Music and Gaming Land and you know, the small major glitch that clears all your data for no reason at all.
Loved his game, my brother, sisters and I all enjoyed it so much
To me it is the GOAT. It got me into wrestling. Two of my favorite things, wrestling and video games but together for so much nostalgia.
I love all the aki games. They're one of the best. If not. The best.
I loved this game as well. I got this game probably a year after release because I was still playing WrestleMania 2000.
