I've seen two of your videos and i'm already interested in this channel and its content. You just earned a new subscriber! Keep doing what you're doing .
People This is a virtual tutorial if he is going to fast pause the video. You don't want to have a 20 min video on teeth whitening. This is a great tutorial thank you so much. It is very straight forward for those that know a little about PS
Guys, if you are clicking "add layer mask" and your layer mask looks all black like it did nothing to the selection, it actually did mask the selection, you just cant see it on the little black mask icon on the side. The video above is working with an image of a mouth only, so a layer mask on the teeth is essentially 70% of the image, so the white mask area is more visible on the side. If you are working with a full portrait of a person, a mask on the teeth is essentially invisible under the layers mask preview on the side. I spent 10min trying to figure this out, until I actully realized the selection mask may just be too small to show. After masking the selection, try clicking on the new layer and painting over the teeth with a colored brush, you'll see that it's actually masked!
This guy's a very good teacher. It's nice how he briefly mentions all of the little things he's doing (even if they're simple). It makes it easy to follow along with.
love your videos. the fact that you take your time to explain how the things work and why you`re doing them makes your videos an amazing resource. thanks a lot
finally a good tutorial for whiten teeth, i am dutch and i can learn so much english from this for school and i can learn so much about photoshop for my school. Thank you so much!
Outstanding tutorial. The use of blending options and the sensitivity to the pigment layers of the teeth is fantastic. Time to achieve excellent results is very reasonable.
For those who are using PC and probably a newer version his "shift+delete" is now "shift+f5" i got so confused cause my shift delete kept popping like i was trying to cut something
I am a novice. Being I tried your videos have a confidence I can do it. Life is short art is long. But your art of work of tutorial makes the photographic editing (the art) make it short definitely. Once request is being I am second language of English (sometimes I have to go over & over again) talking speed is the only my.. my.. only problem. Best work you did. Please do keep it up. God bless you.
When you go to the second phase of adding whiteness to the sheen part of the teeth. You suddenly have a new layer. I've tried making a new layer and just Copying the layer 1. Both ways don't allow me to shift delete and make the selection white. Says there's no layer there. A step is missed and I have no clue what to do.
I just love your tutorials! They are detailed and you explain everything really well that it's easy to understand. I've learned alot from you! Keep doing what you're doing. And thank you! :)
When i get to the shift+delete part, the program is not giving me the option of filling with white. I even tried to create that extra layer that you don't explain apearing there (it's not created yet at 6.44 but it magically appears when the image shifts back to photoshop at 6:56) and it still doesn't work. cand you please tell me what am i doing wrong? thank you
+Barbu Diana Just curious but are you using an older version of photoshop? im using CS2 and didnt have the option either. I simply right clicked the area selected and clicked on fill. Seemed to do the trick. Hope it helps
+Barbu Diana No Doubt can you give some direction how to get the Mystery Layer that appears here? I am in PS CC and have tried every which way. Thanks for any guidance
I created a new layer, assuming he skipped mentioning that step and just created one, but now when I shift+delete, it says "could not complete the cut command because the selected area is empty", and I have ensured that my layers are all in the group in the same fashion his are on screen. I'm a bit lost on what to do here. My version of photoshop is CC 2017
Your videos are so incredibly helpful! I love being a photographer, and I love natural photos. These hints help keep the photographs both realistic and better!
I just want to take out some time and thank you for everything I've learned from all your tutorials I've watched! seriously from painterly surrealism to editing teeth you have helped me so much this is an amazing channel every amateur should watch! Thank you Phlearn!
Your tutorial is wonderfull, professional and simple ?can you give a tip for what is the most efficient to isolate many small photo items for a printed cataloge
Hmm, think there is a mistake at just after 6.45 Arron gets a layer 2 without creating it, but if you use the marquee on a new created layer and press shift delete Photoshop says the select area is empty..
I am a dentist and you should be applauded for your understanding of the complex beauty of the human crystals, often called teeth. Well done! Incidentally, there is no way I would kiss her because she does not floss and within those gum spaces lurk anaerobic spirochetes probably repopulated from her wisdom teeth which may well be partially erupted and expressing pus! She should use a Waterpik with bicarb of soda and hot water plus get those wisdom teeth removed. Remember folks: Don't kiss the unknown!
I've tried this many times, but every time I get to the group part, the outline of the teeth don't show up. I can't figure out why it won't work. Does anyone know why?
A perfect video again, Aaron. I always look to french tutorials because I'm not good enough in english but with you, it's very easy to understand and do the same work as you. Your videos and explanations are just perfect. Thank you for your work and for the time you've spend for making these videos ! Greetings from Belgium ;-)
Wow, dude, this was an amazing tutorial. Just the right amount of info at just the right pace. I just recently went professional, and I've found that paying clients want perfection way more than my TFP/art collab models. So this is gonna be super useful.
Thanks for creating these video. We are getting a great help from your youtube videos. Please create more videos. Its very fun learning from your videos..Thanks a Lot..
I would go out there and say this Phlean channel, and site is TOP in the field on entertaining and real life information on Ps as it pertains to image work. You guys have a lot to be proud of. Aaron is not hard to listen to or understand. Everything is explained as to HOW & WHY. When do the seminars start? And just name the price. 3 days 'hand on' with this would equal out to 6 months of plugging away alone. I can do Chicago... Really grateful for this content and it's producers.
Aaron, this was an unexpected treat. I have retouched teeth before and have noticed the layers of teeth but did not know how to retouch them separately. I also have wondered how the pros retouch teeth because they did look 3 dimintional. This, however, has opened up a whole new level of editing for me. I will attempt to do this myself tonight. Can Photoshop 12 handle this task? Well I am sure you will respond to that, but in the meantime, I'll find out when I get home tonight. Thanks for the tutorial.
Greetings Aaron. A very nice tutorial, but as a Dentist I have to point out some details. Your final result is a bit on the greyish which is because of the desaturation caused by white opaque layering. Let me point out - this might be a shocker - that teeth are not supposed to be opaque and our brain knows that! Also our canines are supposed to be a litle darker (on the yellowish/brownish side) than other teeth. This turns the smile deeper and more natural and not so flat looking - this flatness is not so evident here but will be if you see a full face picture. Also, if you let the lines in-between teeth a little darker it will give a more deep and natural feel to this. On a final word, the "dark" portion on the incisal are of the central teeth (incisors) appears darker because it is actually more transparent than the rest of the teeth, so light goes through. If I were to make this less dark, I would put some very small blueish tint on this particular part (trust me, it works and appears more natural to our brain). Of course, all this detail works if you have a shot where the smile is your main attention, if you have something where this is not, or maybe a full body portrait or so, maybe it is not worth so much trouble! Hope this helps too! Keep up the good work, love your tutorials!
This is great! I'm so lazy and just use the whiten-teeth tool in Corel Paint Shop Pro haha... Just started using photoshop and your tutorials are super helpful!
I'm doing AS level media and these videos are so useful! Thank you so much! I actually needed this exact video for tomorrow because I'm editing my magazine cover and I wanted to whiten the teeth :)
ur amazing with ur work ^^ i really enjoy watching ur videos bcz not only r they helpful but also amusing in a weird way :) could u do some tutorials on action mask layers i feel i have yet to learn how to use them to their full potential
Love these tuts for my students. I wish that you could include a link for the photo that you are manipulating. Its easier for beginning students to work along with the tutorial. Thanks!!!
My active selection of the teeth won't turn into layer mask on the group. Is there a default setting I have to change? I'm using Photoshop CS 5.1. Thanks!!
+Steven Thompson Some keyboard shortcuts don't always work properly for certain functions, this is one of them. Just click on the little icons bottom right hand corner instead of using keys.
+Miss Leigh (Mel) +dhdoctors +92MandMs I actually found out that it had been creating a layer mask all along. It just wasn't updating in the thumbnail in the layer panel.
You do rock, not JUST because you are good at what you do, but because you are willing to share your knowledge. Bless the teachers!
Lengo67 - im a beginner and i can easily catch up
pause the video to catch up? he includes the screen shots which are really helpful.
yeah for sure Bro!! its not like he is getting paid by TH-cam or anything.

Every time I watch a video you inspire me to be a better photographer and retoucher. Thank you for all your tutorial help.
brushing your teeth works too
cheating is better
hahahaha :D
HapplyFace no it doesnt. I brush my teeth a lot and they are still a bit yellow. Teeth are naturally yellow unless whitened.
JMTek (Formerly JoshVFX) smh. you missed it.
not too yellow like in the video, try brushing with salt =).
This is the most accurate quick way that I have seen, thanks Aaron and phlearn team
WOW ! Seems super easy ! I love when you get "that smile" at the beginning and at the end of a episode. Love You!
this is honestly the best tutorial I have ever seen in my life. Thanks my guy!!!

The first thing that possible learn from him, this is how to be always so happy and optimistic :) Amazing :)
Outstanding tutorial. The use of blending options and the sensitivity to the pigment layers of the teeth is fantastic. Time to achieve excellent results is very reasonable.

Cool video, now I'm going to brush my teeth!
you are one of the best mentor in TH-cam!

Game changing tips... I especially loved the liquify tool you used to straighten teeth!!!!!!!!

I'm still amazed by the transformations that are possible :) Nicely done!

stuck at the filler part 7:11 you did not explain layer 2 and my dialog says "could not co,mplete the cut command because the selected area is empty"

Hi, in 5:38 can not break the "spot" in 255 in the underlying layer
Hey, I'm following along and at 7:10 i'm getting an error. "Could not complete the Cut command because the selected area is empty.
you are incredible at what you do. really amazing
I wish i would have known about phlearn 10 years ago when i was learning PS..Great Stuff!!

Can you do a video on how to change nail color? Going from bare nails to polished nails and visa versa?
One more amazing tutorial...thank you so much for sharing this
worked great! quick question - why does you quick mask look like wings (teeth) and on my PS screen it just looks like a small circle?
Amazing tutorial as per usual, thank you.
