    Guys, if you are clicking "add layer mask" and your layer mask looks all black like it did nothing to the selection, it actually did mask the selection, you just cant see it on the little black mask icon on the side. The video above is working with an image of a mouth only, so a layer mask on the teeth is essentially 70% of the image, so the white mask area is more visible on the side. If you are working with a full portrait of a person, a mask on the teeth is essentially invisible under the layers mask preview on the side.
    I spent 10min trying to figure this out, until I actully realized the selection mask may just be too small to show. After masking the selection, try clicking on the new layer and painting over the teeth with a colored brush, you'll see that it's actually masked!

Please consider teaching us how to use the Text tool on paths, especially on circles where the text is vertical on the top arch as well as the bottom arch (versus the text going in one continuos direction around the circle). Thanks for keeping Phlearn so Phun!

    I would go out there and say this Phlean channel, and site is TOP in the field on entertaining and real life information on Ps as it pertains to image work. You guys have a lot to be proud of.
    Aaron is not hard to listen to or understand. Everything is explained as to HOW & WHY.
    When do the seminars start? And just name the price. 3 days 'hand on' with this would equal out to 6 months of plugging away alone. I can do Chicago...
    Really grateful for this content and it's producers.

But your art of work of tutorial makes the photographic editing (the art) make it short definitely. I've tried this many times, but every time I get to the group part, the outline of the teeth don't show up. I can't figure out why it won't work. Does anyone know why?

  • @yanalyonnais7072
    @yanalyonnais7072 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I am having issues with this part: Now that we have a selection, we want to turn it into a layer mask. Make a new layer and press CMD/CTRL + G to group that layer with itself. Then, hit the layer mask button. Now, all the changes you make will only apply to the layer mask. This is a very important step and is extremely helpful later on!
    When I create a group I have an active selection still, but when I proceed to create a layer mask the selection disappears and teeth are not shown in black in white in the layer mask icon like they are in your video... Any suggestions?

    • @JoseyWenger
      @JoseyWenger 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patricia Gagné That was happening to me. My layer mask was black, but it was working just fine. Test your mask the way Phlearn does and see if it's working.

    • @sanflores
      @sanflores 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** I'm stuck in this step also, already have the selection, now, how do you create the layer? Maybe that is the key for our problems, I've tried with Ctrl + J, doesn't work as the selection disappear. Tried with Layer >> New >> Layer, it seams to work as the selection is still active, then Ctrl + G, a group is created with this new layer inside. Then I click "add a layer mask" and a new layer is created next to the group... but with no teeth!. There is something very obvious for experienced people, but that us the newbys don't get.
      Thanks for your time ***** !
