With a baby (or babies) on the way, getting as much sleep as possible may seem like the ultimate goal. For better or worse, there are plenty of obstacles in that stand between a pregnant woman and a good stretch of blissful and uninterrupted sleep.
As a mother of two myself, I remember the struggles to get comfortable at night. And as a back sleeper, I was surprised when my OBGYN recommended I change my sleep position about halfway through my pregnancy - I had no idea!
Experts may advise pregnant women to shift to their side, specifically their left sides, to allow for the promotion of blood and nutrients to both mom and baby.
This post has been verified by a Mattress Clarity Expert Network member. To learn more about our network, click here: www.mattressclarity.com/experts/
Please always check with your OBGYN before making any major changes to your sleep position - they’re the ones that know you and your pregnancy best (after you, of course!).
So why should women move to their sides? At some point, the bump is going to make stomach sleeping impossible and as our bodies grow and shift, sleeping on our backs puts added pressure upon key veins in our spine that help blood flow to our heart.
In addition to sleep positions, there are a lot of other aches, pains, and trips to the bathroom that can keep a pregnant mom up at night. I share a few tips and tricks that I’ve picked up along the way in the video. This includes things like having crackers on the nightstand to ease nausea, sleeping elevated to reduce heartburn, and a few more.
What are the ways you stay comfortable during pregnancy? Comment below and share the love - we’re all in this together!

20 weeks mark for me yesterday and have been sleeping on my LEFT side, but the last 3 days I been uncomfortable and have mild pain laying on my left. Laying on my left now I wake up numb which never happened in my early pregnancy. My right side is now the best option for me I get more comfortable but I try to just endure being uncomfortable and pain just to lay on my left make it comfortable for my baby.
Earlier on my pregnancy my husband bought me a pregnancy pillow and it is sooooo comfortable.! Helps ease the pain for me.
By the way exercise helps me sleep good.

I have a system worked out already LOL. I didn't want to get a pregnancy pillow, so I am using a plump pillow between my legs, another pillow on either side of me to rest my arm on while the bottom arm is stretched out (my arms are falling asleep otherwise. Not fun). And if it gets too uncomfortable sometimes, I put one more pillow behind my back so I I'd be laying halfway between my back and side.
I get up to pee 2-3 times a night, so each time I get back to bed, I change my sides. That was working wonders for me! BUT lately I have an awful hip pain if I lay for too long on my left side and nothing helps except just keep on sleeping on my right side. But then I wake up with a squished ear LOL.
Hope some of my experience helps!

From everything I've read you are supposed to be on your side which is great for me being I'm a side sleeper anyways. Also I noticed if I slept on my back the baby compressed my spine and caused me to black out so definitely go on your side!!

I recommend a memory foam mattress or topper. These do absorb body heat though, so I recommended layering a comforter or 2 over it it. Idc what they say about staying cool, they all get hot, too hot, unless moving about enough to let the hot spots cool back down. Getting the right memory foam mattress or topper can eliminate having pressure points.

Always been a side sleeper that randomly will roll on my back. It's tough to stay on my left side all night since my hip takes all the weight and I wake up with it hurting while using my U shaped pregnancy pillow. I will turn over to my right side and by the time I wake up to have to go to the bathroom again my hip is better on my left side and I can turn back over.
It's been tough since before pregnancy I slept straight through the night without issue and now im averaging waking up around 4-5 times a night.

Babu6 was mostly on my rifht which meant sleeping on my left caused an uncomfortable gravitational pull downard which was almost painfull to tolerate . I switched to my right, would elebaye myself tobrest on my back and also spent time on my left side.. I figured it was not for baby to be in paon. No matter whichbside I slept on. I have a pregnancy pillow samenas baby bub but ordered from Amazon. It ws good at forsf but I strted to feel like i was just preasing my bump into the firm Pillow which was also uncomfortable.

Hi there! Can you tell me what pillow you are using at 1:31 in the video? The blue wedge shaped pillow looks like it would be great for reading at night before bed. I have been trying so hard to find a good reading pillow and am having a heckuva time finding one that’s comfortable for me. I tried the Husband Pillow and wanted so bad to like it but I just found it super uncomfortable. Any advice would be much appreciated. That would be a great topic of a future video too (unless you already have one and I missed it lol). Thank you!! :)

I woke up one night sleeping on my belly at 5 months. Terrified i squished baby to death. Painfully and no movement after for almost a day, which was normally an active baby morning and night. Scared the heck out of me.. glad though I've fealt it moving after again. My guess is baby must have gotten moved to a different position.
Bathroom breaks at night definitely are a thing.. or horrible leg cramps. But Bananas peanuts and magnesium help.

Hi! I’m only 16 weeks pregnant and having such a hard time being comfortable while sleeping. I’m normally a stomach sleeper and haven’t slept on my stomach since I found out at 7 weeks. I do have a pregnancy pillow but it is so stiff and uncomfortable it just doesn’t work for me. I do tend to be more on my left side but my hips and lower back are in so much pain I’m constantly moving around. Do you have any pillow recommendations that aren’t super stiff and help with hip/back pains?

You didn't mention excruciating hip pain. I'm having the absolute worst time sleeping because my hips are just killing me. I bought a wedge pillow to go in between my knees which helps but honestly the only thing that truly helps is not laying directly on it and putting all that pressure on it. I got one of those boppy double sided pillows in your video so that I could maybe lay partially on my back and just wedged up a little, but it has stretched out so that the wedges are too far apart to prevent me from rolling completely on my back. Thinking of sewing some elastic into it to bring the wedges in closer.
