Great shave test, that vintage Joseph Allen is beautiful! I have been looking to do a shave test of a vintage and a modern straight razor as well. But for me I either have vintage wedges or full to extra hollows and for the modern side I have Gold Dollars or ZYs in the half hollow range. We will see may be I will find something close enough to test. Great video Graham! :)
Yes, I totally get it. I was thinking about looking at the vintage vs modern straight razor test from a different angle. And was wondering what your thoughts were on how best to proceed or should I just leave it alone.
Well there is the avenue of modern blade against a blade that is 200 years old like some of mine, but how do you know if a Gold Dollar will still be around in 200 years. Maybe you could take a current maker like Thiers or Dovo and try a new Dovo like the Bismark against a vintage Dovo, ot Thiers, that would work quite well i think
You are welcome Eric. The best place for a new Bismark is Amazon or Ebay, i have always fancied a new Bismark with the gold etching to the blade, very handsome razor and a GREAT EXCUSE to buy a new one too.If you want an old Dovo,to do a comparison, i have one in my Etsy shop. Here is a link www.etsy.com/uk/listing/261807237/straight-razor-cut-throat-razor-razor?ref=shop_home_active_21

Well i did this not for style of razor, but for quality of steel. Does the quality of a chinese blade differ to a vintage razor over a 100 years old.

Great idea! I will have to work on picking up the right razors, thanks for the suggestion.
