Wet Shaving Advocate Thank you Mark, very nice razor, and enjoyed the shave, I need to get used to it of course, but did really enjoy it..thanks again....all the best..Paul.
Great job Paul, This is the first straight razor shave I've seen you do (saw you use the shavette once). Anyway, The straight razor is a bit of a challenge at first but you get better and better at it. There's nothing like having a straight razor shave. I've only been doing it for about 4 months now but enjoy it immensely. I enjoy DE shaving too but have switch exclusively to the straight (unless I'm pressed for time). My 17 year old son was always ribbing me about DE/Straight razor shaving. With buying so many soaps and aftershaves. I come to find out, he's been using my soaps, brushes and DE razor (and aftershaves). He's leaving for college in Sept. and wants me to set him up with his own razor, soaps etc. It's good to see that an old school ritual is being passed on and enjoyed by a younger generation. (How could it not be). Anyway, thanks for you vids. Always enjoy watching. Thank you. All the best to you also brother.
Ted Matichak Hi Ted, Thanks for the comment, it is great to hear of younger generations wanting and enjoying the DE shaving, excellent, he may start his friends in colledge off too...lol....all the best, hope he does well....Paul.
LOL! The Sweat on your forehead told the whole story, great videos on shaving, I have been going through them for a while now. I also use a Futur most of the time but dabble with a straight for the excitement, it was one of your videos that inspired me to get back to proper shaving and loose the beard :) SUBBED.
Great shave Paul, as my cousin Elvis would say "My boy My Boy", lol. I have one of Marks Gold Dollar 66 razors, he puts a fantastic edge on them, so glad you were able to get one. Thayers is a very good aftershave, I have the Rose scented which Mrs G uses quite a lot. The chili looks very healthy, won't be long now and you will have some fruits. Have a great rest of the week, hello to Mrs P. George and Mrs George
Pug Dog Nation Hi George & Mrs George, hope your both well, yes I really enjoyed the Gold Dollar, Mark did a great job for me on it....love the Thayers, heard so much about it...hope to get some fruits from the chilli, very hot apparently..lol...I was lucky enough to meet some of Elvis's Band, the drummer, guitarist, and the Sweet Inspirations, when they toured here a few years ago...all the best....Paul & Mrs P :-)
Very well done Paul, you take to all these different shavers like a duck to water. The lemon Thayers is excellent stuff, classic reaction to the smell when applied!
Thanks Paul for this video! E 'was exciting to see the work with a straight razor, it does not happen often, I hope there will be other occasions! Shaving very good!
For the last 3 years i used the 'Dovo envogue' SR and from my experience the SR shaving calls for thorough face preparation (ideally after shower), and stretched skin at all times (one hand stretches while the other works with the shaving tool). It's quite a tricky task esp shaving against the growth (i avoided this one, you ventured on camera quite successfully though) but once learned you can't wait for the next session. Four-five days or even more growth makes it more enjoyable...Nikos... Cheers Paul!
+Nikos Pap It's great when you enjoy the shave like that, straight razors are good, I enjoy mine every time I use it, but it is a very different technique and takes some getting used too....all the best Nikos ...Paul.
You seem quite skilled with the Straight.Quite an excellent shave this one.It seemed like you had some struggles during the third pass however, but didn't look like a problem. No blood and as you said no sting so A+ shave. Was looking forward to seeing a proper Straight in one of your videos!
Hessel M Thank you for that, I enjoyed the straight razor shave, but more practise is needed, as you know, a different method of shaving to any other....all the best....Paul.
The look on your face when you put on the Thayers...good stuff isn't it? Well done on the shave, Paul, you even went back for afters with the pickup pass.
Hey Paul never been brave enough to try a straight shave as it does look a lot more awkward than using a DE. You looked as if you enjoyed it though 😊😊 Definitely got to get me some of the Lemon Witch Hazel, that stuff looks "Fan Dabbi Dozzi" Always a pleasure to watch you Paul, brightens up the day. See you Sunday!!!!
FANTASTIC PAUL! You've finally plucked the courage to yeiled a lethal bathroom sword to your face. Well done! It's one of the best feeling i had when i learned to tame my straight razor. Infact two events. Learning to use the straight razor and getting my knee down at Silverstones Superbike Track day, those two piled together was better losing than my virginity lol! Stay blessed mate. If you visit London's shaving shops again, give me shout... Best wishes Glenn
TheAdmiral1976 Thank you Glenn, really enjoyed the shave, the razor was honed by Mark in Australia, fantastic job too.....yes will do if I'm in London, maybe later in the year....all the best....Paul.
Chester W Thank you, yes, I really enjoyed this, it just takes a little more time to think of what your doing really...hope you try some new things too...all the best....Paul.
Great Paul. Now that I have found my ultimate DE razor in the Merkur Slant bar, I want to move on to a straight now. Great first go! BTW, I went to The Body Shop here in LA and got a free sample of the Macca root. It IS a very, very nice soap. Thanks dude
Hello Paul, At Xmas Body Shop, were selling three maca root tubs for £16.00 which I thought was too good to miss. I have noticed this morning after opening the first one that on the base there is the symbol of an open can with "12M"written across it. I take this to mean that the cream has a lifespan of 12 months after opening, even though the only seal on the tub is the screw down lid. Do you give any credence to this, as, like many others, I like to use different creams and one tub of MR can last me much longer than 12 months? Thanks.
Good job, now a real straight and you did very well. Keep up the good work you will find that shaving whit a traditional straight is the best way to shave, anyway to my opinion. I still shave whit my DE's but i prefer now shaving whit a traditional straight and shavette. Gino
Very impressive Paul!! I feel like I'm so much better DE shaving now that I have 3 months under my belt. Last week I used a vintage GEM 1912 SE and no nicks but sounded just like your straight razor. Definitely loud audio feedback. p.s. I recommend you not get too much of that aftershave balm all over those nice green leaves. :-)
markmongo44 Glad your enjoying and getting better at the DE...the GEM sounds very nice too....your probably right about the balm on the leaves...must watch out....all the best....Paul.
Thank you Paul for another great video and sharing some more of your shaving products and after watching this vid i will be going to the body shop to buy the macaroot shaving cream and im really keen on trying thayers lemon witch hazel could this be purchased in uk shops and thankyou once again wish you all the best
Asif Mahmood Your welcome Asif, glad you enjoyed it, the Maca Root is excellent shaving cream for protection and slickness. I ordered the Thayers Lemon on Amazon UK...but I think it came from the States as it took a week to arrive. all the best..Paul.
Hi Paul, Have you tried Biotique shave cream? It's as good if not better than the Macca Root. Available on Amazon for just over a fiver. Great film as always, Regards.
Your beard came off like "butta" Great video as always. Is this your first strait razor shave on video? If it is, I thought that I have seen everyone of your video's..must have missed it.
I'm sure I'm wrong but that last pass did not look enjoyable in the least. No way I could do that. You're a braver man than I. I'll stick to DE and SE thank you very much. Haha
William Trexler When you train your muscle memory that hobby become extremely stress reducing to the point that you are getting addicted to it. Maybe that's just me.
You act like your playing with a snake that's ready to strike...What's relaxing about that... skydiving is fun too...suppose,to be a relaxing endeavor...only works for me if I'm,sitting in the chair and someone else is doing the work...your video was fun to watch you being scared...but thanks no thanks...
Can't wait for more straight razor shaves!
TheNo85307 Thanks.
Well done Paul, you did a fantastic job using that razor. Really enjoyed the video and thanks for the kind words. Mark
Wet Shaving Advocate Thank you Mark, very nice razor, and enjoyed the shave, I need to get used to it of course, but did really enjoy it..thanks again....all the best..Paul.
WOW fantastic shave Paul. I shave with straight razors only and I couldn't do it better myself.
Valdi cygars and razors That is kind of you to say that, thank you....all the best...Paul.
After slicing my chin and then my upper lip, I've given it up! Good for ya!
Donald Navygoat23 Sorry to hear that Donald, thanks for watching as always....all the best...Paul.
Great shave Paul
Great shave, Paul! I changed over to straight razors in February and never looked back. I enjoy it more than DE shaving. Thanks for the videos!
Joe Vining Thanks Joe, it is a great experience and enjoyable shave.....Paul.

+Garry Clarke Yes they put it on there as a safety measure, but I have used soaps long out of date, no problems.

G Sonier Hi Gino,
It was a very enjoyable shave, look forward to more...all the best...Paul.
How long did it take to get the skill to use one of these? Is it made easier once your proficient at DE shaving so you know your angles better?
I took to it within a couple of shaves Liam, and it does help using a DE yes, gives you more confidence trying a new razor like this.
I was thinking of buying a straightrazor but bought a shavette, and did I cut myself ?
So safety ones it is !
***** The shavette is less forgiving than a straight believe it or not Lars.....it can be off putting..lol...all the best..Paul.
PaulHFilms Cheers Paul, I noticed.... ! I´ll stick with the safety ones .
Very impressive Paul!!

pamela savage Thanks for the information, will look into it.....Paul.
they are called scales.
will the astringent dry out my skin. since it contains alcohol or am I better off with the non alcohol witch hazel
Giovanni Villanueva You are better without alcolhol if your worried about it drying your skin...as everyone is different... Paul.
The word you were thinking off is scales (The handle). Make sure and stick a piece of toilet paper in between and dry the inside of them.
Dan Lutter That's the word yes...Scales...thanks, a good tip that many thanks, I have cleaned and oiled the blade too...all the best..Paul.
