Dave. Try this. Something out of our comfort zone. Try a Mangrove tree for a bonsai. Trick is not to order them until spring. If you order now, they will ship and die in shipping because of our cold weather. Believe me, I know. I have about 5 growing now and overwintering in my basement. Winter, enough water for the bottom. Summer you can fill the container with water. A nice little tree to do that I have not seen anyone try to bonsai. So, I gave it a shot. With your expertise, I bet you can make one. Try it. Not expensive. Red Mangrove (Rhizophora mangle), that is one to use. Good for fresh water. Just a thought for you to try.
What a cool looking tree. Diggin the variegated leaves as well. And fantastic success with the propagation! You keep rootin all these cuttings, you could set yourself a side hustle selling pre-bonsai trees.
Great looking tree, love the colors. Dave would tell me what or how to make the soil you use or what you recommend for general use. Thank you great work.
Can you put the plant in a bonsai pot without sculpting it? I wouldn't dare do it because I have no idea what I would be doing, but they are so pretty.
@@DavesBonsai 😁😁 Though I didn't prune it, I did move it to a Bonsai pot. This plant does not like to be moved or overwatered. My plant died and I had to order another. I didn't touch the soil just put it in some pumice, peat, perlite, charcoal and sand then water from the bottom. She is lovely.
Have gotten a small fernleaf aralia. Do y'all know if it has similar requirements to this one? Not too much info on the fernleaf, other than that it is also suitable for bonsai.
@@epzzz I don’t have great insight yet on varieties of the MAs. I just know they like a good amount of humidity and light, though in summer in MN too much direct sun was not great.
I love the leaf of the Mings! Color size and shape is such a nice attribute❤. Was this one purchased at the nursery by you that you frequent? I might have to make the drive and scope that place out this spring!!
@@DavesBonsai that’s the one I had in my head! We should do a nursery stock evaluating for bonsai, buying, and what we do when we get them home ‘series’ next spring together
Love the pot with the cuttings!!
Excellent looking Trunk on this Aralia. Simply excellent.
Wee lil' babyforest! And the mother tree is fine and dandy
💚💚💚
Almost like a mullet! This tree is beautiful dave!!
Great.... Now I really have to look for a ming for myself... Sheesh...😋

Cool Ming forest.
You did a beautiful job

The more I can sell the closer to retirement my friend! 😜
I am excited to see if the cuttings rooted 😇

It looks great and healthy. Can you wire them? They looks to not grow much horizontally at all but maybe they do later in life?
I’ve heard the really don’t grow horizontally. The benches are flexible. I could wire. I might try when I see the next flush of growth.

What soil are you using?
@@carolficorilli9768 I use primarily Akadama and pumice.
Any 2024 updates on this tree? 🤔
@@dkstott29 sad news on my Ming, I lost that one. But I have a glorious new one from a club friend. I’ll update that soon.
👍👌👌👌

No, Otten Bros. On other side of town.

@@Candice.BonsaiScience great idea! We could hit two or three nurseries. I could try to get my son to do the video for us.
