WOW. Len is Amazing for sure. Cool calm collected and right to the point showing every Brush Stroke with nothing left out. All of Lens Lessons are like this and more. TY Len Hend.
I sincerely do hope that you are still with us and producing beautiful paintings Len. At 77 I am trying to resurrect my oil painting as a pass time and it is not easy. However the way you teach is truly inspiring and I hope that you are still teaching guys like me. I did read that these lessons are now about 30 years old.
Len your style is fantastic !!!! Im learning from different people and incorporating all styles into making one of my own. I love your style of painting...the colors and the composition...everything !! Thank you !!!!!!!
I seem to have gone back in time! Spending an evening with an earlier version of Len :) What I enjoy is the fearless approach. Painting should not be scary, it should be a pleasure to spend time doing it. Wow, these were put up long ago, thanks!
great way of teaching can see exactly what colours yr using and the techniquesr good clouds aren't easy to paint wish we had learnt some of yr style in artschool.the violet n green work well.always something new to learn thanks
Hi Graham This painting style is a skill which takes a little time to master. That is why my paintwithlen website had the 28 lessons arranged with the very simple paintings first. You might be rushing a bit but if you keep painting your hand will learn to control the brush. Making a mess can be good - you learn from your mistakes. I will put the Snow Capped Peaks video up soon on my website then I'll take a break. Cheers Len
I admire this kind(way) of art. Quite a big(great) compliment to this man! I admire this man. It is simply a big(great) joy to look at this and to work after. Thanks for this romp to well explained(declared) videos. Furthermore a lot of success on theirs away.
Well, I've watched it again and it's amazing what new things I learned. You're a great inspiration. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. I'm gonna make watching this lesson a weekly event. I'm sure I'll learn more next time I view it!
Very good lesson! I love your talent, always love to watch your style and believe you cove the lessons very well. Thanks for your explanation on how to paint your paintings. Great to see you’re keeping up with your free lessons. You’re the best! Rob Colorado USA
Thanks Len Even the simplest paintings are a problems at times aswell, clouds are a complete nightmare & fir trees,so going to give the new no:8 fan brush a go tonight and see it makes any different in doing them.Have you ever painted any landscapes of northern ireland/ireland
This painting is so lovely. I have learned a lot from you. My trees will improve greatly from now on. I find I have a lot of trouble with bristle brushes. Always digging hairs out of the work.
thank you yes I saw that and I am very interested will get back when I figure costs and exchanges am Canadian and of course gather the coins for it Merci /thank you
hi there well after 3 weeks of playing and seing if really am into this YES ahahah I am now is there a way to transfer the funds to you I do not have a pay pal and not very familliar with pay pal etc and I would be into the full package and also am wanting to get into oils as well so these work great for me now I have gum tree s in the rockies be well and thank you for sharing your knowledge
Hi Len, you make this style of painting you do look very easy but ive tried some of your free lessons and just cant get it right, it can turn in to a nightmare with me.all your work is excellent, was wondering if you will be adding more free lessons to your website.
Thanks for getting back to me, As I understand the fat over lean technique, basically means adding more oil(fat) on each subsequent layer to prevent the top layer from drying before the previous layer, resulting in cracking etc. With the technique that you use, which is wet on wet, I'm guessing that is not a problem, I am going to give the kerosine a go, just ordinary kero? Once again thanks for your time and all of your wonderful work
Yes ordinary kero. I might add - trying to dab thick paint over thinner (runnier) wet paint can result in the brush picking up paint rather than putting it down - often seen when linseed oil is used.
Using oil with wet on wet, when mixing your colours, what medium or ratio, do you use with the fat over lean principle, quite confused, love your videos, and have done a number of your paintings using acrylics, would like to have a go using oil
Hi Alan I have never heard of the 'fat over lean' expression. When working wet on wet with oils I try to have my paint so as it is all of the same creamy consistency that will not run down when I place a big thick blob on a vertical palette. Linseed oil will make the paint slimy and cause endless problems - KEROSENE is my choice for thinning oils and cleaning up.
Watching that grass effect is so cool, but I can't replicate it on my own canvas. I wish I could see it from a different angle because I must be doing it wrong somehow.
Hi terry - I've learnt a lot by trial and error - if you think I can help you with this internet thing, email me and I am happy to help a fellow OZ. Cheers.
Dab, dab, dab, sounds famililar as well.................another English artist called Keith Fenwick 'The art doctor' uses this terminology in his DVD's. It look's like Len's the man again!

Thank you Len Hend!

That is a size 12 round hog bristle brush - about 16mm round.- a 3/4 inch house painting brush will do the job.
great teacher Len - thank you
Can I do it with acryl?
Len, what is the name of the brush that you use in this lesson that you use to put on the foliage of the trees ?
Thanks in advance :)
Beautiful composition ,
Len what type of brush are you using in the star of this video Love your work?
I first brushed over the clouds with a small cheap common house painting brush.

I respect you .like your tenchnology,Oil paint is so much dangerous if you use finger touch and paint.

When Painting leaves, I use A large round hog bristle brush. A 1inch house painting brush is just as good.
Watching that grass effect is so cool, but I can't replicate it on my own canvas. I wish I could see it from a different angle because I must be doing it wrong somehow.
