I love my whippet and the bred in general so much. Just great dogs. The prey drive comment is so important for anyone considering a whippet. My old boy who passed a couple years could have couldn't even use an invisible fence system. He'd run right past chasing a squirrel getting zapped the entire time. My new boy is not a year old yet and I'm noticing his drive starting as he is now eyeballing ducks and squirrels. We have a full blown fence now through. 😊 Anyone that wants one, just keep this in mind. They really can have zero regard for thier own safety when they start chasing a critter. They will have trigger critters too. For my last whippet, he'd ignore most small birds, racoons, and cats, but any kind of rodent, rabbits, or geese he was all over.
I'm a dog walker by profession and have a whippet that I walk every day. I'm constantly blown away at her speed and rate of acceleration when we play fetch. She is incredibly well behaved too.. unless she see's a squirrel.
Why not bring Snoot too when you take out Snilly? Walking two dogs isn't much difference from walking one and I'm sure he would be happy to get an extra walk? Staying inside 7 hours without peeing is a long time for a dog. I our country we even have a law saying dogs shouldn't be left alone for more than 6 hours at a time.
Hey my family and I were looking for a puppy recently and your video helped us decide on a whippet! This was the best lifestyle video we could find and showed us how they might act. Our 9 wk. old whippet pup appreciates you guys!!!
I appreciated this, Cathy. I have had greyhounds (three at a time!) and it is interesting to see that the whippets have the same behaviors. I am getting old now, and am thinking about a whippet - a little less dog to handle than an 80 lb. greyhound. LOL
Thanks for posting Cathy. My girl Puzzle a (2 yr old whippet) and I watched it together. We've watched all your whippie videos and she loves seeing your ones run around. When she saw your 2 playing bitey face she jumped off the couch and ran to the tv and put her paws up on the tv wanting to join in. Please keep the whippie content coming, it's fantastic. Appreciate the effort you put into your videos.
Why do you keep saying whippie ? You do realize the dog breed is called Whippet ? Whippee are you one of those people that gives cutesy name's to everything ?
Great video. I use to have two whippets myself but they've past on now. You hit all the key points. And so right about the bathing. Whippets never smell unless they get into something specific.
Just got a whippet mix. This explains so much ! Why he has so many accidents. Guess he just really has to go a LOT ! He’s still the sweetest dog ever !
My word! that Apartment dog bath......So civilised! Never seen one like that before, or even knew they existed. My friend has ''Hardstanding'' dog wash outside her house with hot and cold water. Whippets ''Highstep'' grit into their undercarriages, and of course, love to roll in fox poo.. The 'Maze' bowl looks a great idea.
Definitely very grateful for the dog bath, or else I'd have to go in stores to get them cleaned Haha yes without the maze bowl, Snilly might shallow all her food at once!
@@gotcathy Oh my son had a Whippet who basically bolted his food so fast when young it could sometimes make him regurgitate. I fed him separately from Twiggy the Lurcher, but we are getting a puppy soon, and I think I'll buy one of these bowls, because it can't do them good to ''Inhale'' their food! :)
You're fur babies are absolutely gorgeous not only in looks but also temperament. It's also apparent they're well taken care of, suited for your/their environment and want for absolutely nothing. What better life could any dog need or want...? As a fellow dog lover I thank you for sharing such a wonderful look into their daily lives. As odd as it'll sound...I have a Rat Terrier that looks almost identical to yours in markings, body shape/build & fur... No shedding & grooming is done for pleasure not necessity. Her coat is short, tight and almost maintenance free. The only difference would be if you stood Missy next to your Whippets she would end up looking like a Toy or almost a teacup breed size. She's not...but would come up short standing next to yours lol...
this was so relaxing! i came here after reading about how a whippet (yesterday?) saved a man in Oregon who had inadvertantly driven his car over a cliff...the whippet ran 4miles with glass embedded in his snout and successfully alerted friends. I dont even own a dog, never have because of allergies mostly but also cuz i i worry i wont be able to figure out a plan to care for them to when travelling or on the road working long hrs away from home ;-( This seems like a pretty cool breed though! Thanks
Watched this twice! Never commented on a video on TH-cam ever in my life but this is amazing content for someone who loves this breed. Thank you! I have a 1 year old whippet named goose and she is exactly like your pups.
What a beautiful whippet duo you have! We have a 3 year old, Anning. She's a doll and gets along great with our two older cats. Agree that whippets are great cuddlers. Anning also gives me a similar look when I'm checking Slack/working my tech job and not giving her more attention.🤣 Thanks for sharing this great day in the life video; hopefully it convinces someone who's on the fence or hadn't considered before to adopt a whippet.
Mine was the same. He use to despise having baths but thought it would be fun to roll around in rabbit crap when we use to take him up the hills. Obviously we had to bath him to his disgust
I thought the opening segment said "a lay in the life of..." and it'd be right! Lol 2x whippystick furparent here too. Crazy cuddlers and snoozers at 5.5yo and 6yo. Loved your vid.
Crazy - i have 2 whippets, male and female, almost identical size and build of your 2 - the male is also older & they have absolutely identical personalities as yours...right down to the way they are with other dogs and also how food driven my female dog is and the way she steals food and eats it herself - this was like watching a video of my 2 in my house - my male is way more chilled out and easy going than the female, he also mothers her and cleans her like she's a pup, even though they're 6 & 6 1/2 - best dog breed out there.
@patrycja i have a jrt and i’m looking into getting a whippet for my next dog. I absolutely love jrts but i’d love to own a bigger dog. Do they have many similarities?
I am just about to adopt a 6 month old whippet. My two family dogs passed away this year and my kids are now both in college-wanting a whippet-best dog beds/ cushions for the house?? Our previous dogs were primarily outside but kenneled inside ..
Picking up my second whippet on Sunday. I have a 4 year old female who I got as puppy and am getting a retired show dog that is a 5 year old female. I am bit worried about how they will get along.
Where do you live that there’s that amazing dog bath there? I’m so envious, and really, it’s very smart for landlords to help keep the tenant’s dogs clean and smelling nice 😊.
Beautiful whippets. They really look happy and enjoying themselves. Is a quick brush enough after going to the dog park or do you need to clean them well every day? On the question of feeding, several VETs believe that good quality kibble is better than RAW for dogs. Personally, I like the way you feed your whippets, dry food in the morning and kibble with raw or just raw in the evening. I prefer this combination to all RAW. Is it better to give dinner before or after going to the dog park or walk? And why do you feed them so late, at 11pm, just before going to sleep? Well done for this video. Please give us more 'daily life' vids, they are so helpful.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment Mark! I think a quick brush after going to the dog park is good enough just to get any stray dirt out. Ya, It's quite expensive to transition to all raw, so I agree, I like a mix of a kibble and freeze dried or raw. I never thought about what is the best time to feed then, but maybe 11pm is too late, thanks for pointing that out. I'll look more into that. Thanks!
I love your videos! Your whippets are so cute and trained so well. You make it look so easy. We have a 1 yr old, Sophia, who looks just like your Snilly. She is the best puppy but she got high anxiety in the crate so we stopped crating. We keep her in our room if we have to leave her, but even at a year old, she still gets anxiety when left alone. She’s ok if someone is in the house, but she is not ok when she’s completely alone. She just howls and paces and looks out the window and at the door. The breeder just had another litter and we have the opportunity to get another one in the Spring. We know whippets do good in pairs but just wanted your opinion if you think it’s too early to get a second one with her just being a year? Would love to know your thoughts:)

I only let them off lead in a fenced park! I've have too many instances where I think I can trust them but they bolt after the first squirrel or rustle they hear
my partner keeps saying that our 1 year and 4 month old whippet sleeps too much but like have you tried to wake him?? he gets up moves somewhere else and goes back to sleep. also my dog is very cheeky when i walk him he just wants to be outside for hours sniffing and trying to eat stuff he doesn't tell me when he wants to go inside so i have to decide

Pitbull. Not a purebred but a mutt. Really great family dog. I've lived with whippets as well and they're also a good family dog.
Snoot is divine! Snilly is a dear little dog. Two is definitely a lovely number.
Totally agree, they have a lot of fun together

Are whippets in general healthy dogs? I've just lost my dog after 10 years of severe illness (epilepsy) and I don't want to go through that again.
