My wife's 2010 SEL just passed 150,000 miles. In that time I had to replace the intake manifold (known defect with flapper valve) at ~125,000 and the timing chain at ~140,000. At 140,000 we also got the wheel bearings done at all four corners and replaced all four coil packs.
That's the extent of expensive maintenance items.
The engine received an APR Stage 1 tune in 2011 that supposedly bumps it to ~260HP and over 300FT-LB and yet, to this day does not use a drop of oil between services. Oil changed every 6,000 miles since new, transmission, differentials and Haldex serviced twice every 50,000 miles and due again.
The leather interior still looks pristine. Every year I have the door dings PDR'd and it's worn PPF since new.
Most reliable car we've ever owned,

Dude, can instantly tell you either known nothing about these cars or haven’t been around VW long enough. These are literally one of the most straight forward vehicles on the market, the price is low, they last forever and they have more power (especially with a tune) because it’s a mk6 gti motor at its core, than most brand new vehicles on the road. Very capable, great cars if taken care of just like every other car ever made.

Hi this was my car. There's a reason these cars are so cheap. I owned this car for a little over two years, took it into the VW dealer for service the entire time I had it and I still ended up spending over $11k in needed repairs (not to mention the 4k the dealer WANTED me to spend on unnecessary ones) almost the minute I hit 100k miles (bought it with 81k). They most certainly do not "last forever", as it's hard to find a used one over 150k because the early Tiguans had known issues with the power train. I had 3 cylinders go bad in mine in a span of 7 months. Maybe I got a lemon, maybe not, but it certainly soured my opinion on VW SUVs (I cannot speak on the compacts but I've heard they're significantly better)

@@ExtraWimmerTV You lost me at “took it to the dealer”. You dumped 11k into “recommended overpriced service”
With a VW for your research on common problems and do preventative work. If you would have searched for a good Foreign/ VW Audi specialist shop you would have spent at least half of that 11k.

I bought this 2014 tiguan 2 years ago. The water pump went bust 😂. But i changed that out. Put downpipe, intake, change coil pack. Timing chain. Stage 2 tune. Now it pulls on road and off. It a fun car. When buy it 2nd hand. Be ready to fix it 😂

Almost picked up one of these. It looked great and paperwork said it was serviced. But I noticed owners only kept the car for a few years. Then saw this video and stayed away. Thank you.

Fantastic review Wookie! It’s interesting to get an American perspective on the Tiguan. It is an ever-present sight here in Ireland, usually a 2.0 TDi in silver… handsome, but so drab! Love the channel, keep it up!

I have to HIGHLY disagree, idk if you you bought it from didn't take care of theirs but I've had mine for the last 4 going on 5 years, I make sure to keep it oil changed every 3k only full synthetic and she runs like a BEAST,so you need to really try out one that has been carefully looked after than you will realize you had no idea what you are talking about, especially if I put her in sport mode she GOES and handles like it's on a track 😉 so do yourself a favor go back to the drawing board.

If you take care of of your car it will take care of of you. 🤷🏽‍♂️ bought mine 3 yrs ago. Just started having issues bc of previous bad maintenance.
Replaced engine with used one changed plugs coils and it drives like a dream now.
