Quick correction. @6:57 Micah says the VW Tiguan can't steer itself back into its lane. It actually can at speeds above 40 mph. Apologies for the mistake!

Bought an SE trim and absolutely loving it. The only annoying feature is the start/stop function. I wish there was an option to turn them off permanently.
Having leased this car for 1 1/2 years now, one nit pick annoyance is the alerting system for errors. If you start the car and the outside temp is less than 40 F, it will ding and let you know by showing a cute snowflake image and the temp less than 40F. My problem is that it's the same audible warning as for anything that's wrong with the car. My Tiguan had a radar issue and they replaced the module within a couple weeks, but when the front radar would eventually disable itself, it would emit the same audible warning as for the freezing temps warning. Those 2 are not the same, and shouldn't have the same audible warning. I kept thinking something was wrong, when it was just cold.

I bought a FWD SE. I like the car in general. A car, really. It has lower roof then the previous generation, and it feels more like a wagon than a SUV. I had the previous generation as well. I like the gas mileage, and no premium fuel requirement. But the new Tiguan isn’t as sporty as the first generation Tiguan. Also transmission is sluggish. There is a disconnect between 1st and 2nd gear. Previous generation Tiguan was a higher quality dual clutch transmission. Now it’s cheaper and more for fuel economy tranny. Both has synthetic faux leather, but new Tiguan material seem to be lower grade compared to previous generation.
I test drove two of these today and both had jerky shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. They were both SEL versions with 219 and 163 miles on the odometer (dealer lot cars). I also observed excessive vibrations in the cabin while the engine was warming up ( we were in P and there was a visible headrest shake, on both of them). The V6 Atlas was better, no vibrations or shady gear shifts. Did you experience anything similar?

There is a factory defect with Tiguans where the pillar was not properly welded together at the plant so when the vehicle's body stresses it clicks. I have taken my Tiguan to get this and the other defects taken care of and Volkswagen has no solution. I have discovered that the local service personnel are just as frustrated as they are stuck waiting on Volkswagen engineers to come up with a solution. I opened a case with VW of America to buy back my Tiguan and after months of back and forth nonsense, VW of America basically said that is the way the Tiguan functions so too bad. Once again Volkswagen has cheated their customers by ignoring a defect and not fessing up to it. So either we all get together and complain to Volkswagen, better business bureau or suffer. This is my 7th Volkswagen and my last. Good luck to all who are suffering with the Tiguans' defects.

Why do you guys always forget the Dodge Journey? Yes it’s old and car journalists hate it but it has three rows of seating, plenty of room, lots of storage and power everything. You can buy one with three rows of seats for around $21,000. If you are worried about the Journeys reliability, you can buy an extended warranty and still spend thousands of dollars less than the CR-V, Rav-4 or the Tiguan. It’s the best SUV deal in America today and families won’t have to go into debt to buy one. So anyone considering buying a three row SUV, try the Dodge Journey before you buy one of these.
The Dodge Journey is the biggest POS Chrysler has ever made. Think I'm kidding? Go read customer reviews on Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds, etc. They are total junk! The only thing that might compare, is the new Jeep Renegade, which is also a FIAT/Chrysler turd of the highest magnitude!
