Quick correction. @6:57 Micah says the VW Tiguan can't steer itself back into its lane. It actually can at speeds above 40 mph. Apologies for the mistake!

They aren't over styled like alot of cars, and that good. Still think I'd have a CR-V or an Escape over this though.

@@MrWoodii Nah, I drove the CR-V 2017 and did not really like it - dull, uncomfortable, especially at the back (my wife was not happy but then I tried myself and was like wtf for real) and small trunk. If I had to go for a Jap SUV then I'd go with Nissan that I kinda enjoyed but other than that VW Tiguan 2018 or 2019 all the way.

Sad that VWs engineering goes unmentioned. Ultra high strength steel keeps you safe in the case of an accident. The 3rd gen ea888 motor uses direct and port injection for superior reliability without sacrifice to performance. The 8 speed automatic while maybe not the most efficient transmission is levels higher for reliability than most of the other vehicles in it's segment. It's not always about numbers...

I have a 2019 Tiguan SE 4Motion Black on Black and I agree with literally everything in this video. The transmission gets a lot smoother after 500 miles, but I will say the engine is noisier than others in the class. I do love it, it feels like a baby Audi. The blind spot monitor is so handy, definitely better to have more than ACC.

Having leased this car for 1 1/2 years now, one nit pick annoyance is the alerting system for errors. If you start the car and the outside temp is less than 40 F, it will ding and let you know by showing a cute snowflake image and the temp less than 40F. My problem is that it's the same audible warning as for anything that's wrong with the car. My Tiguan had a radar issue and they replaced the module within a couple weeks, but when the front radar would eventually disable itself, it would emit the same audible warning as for the freezing temps warning. Those 2 are not the same, and shouldn't have the same audible warning. I kept thinking something was wrong, when it was just cold.

@@thezfamily989Well can tell now that I bought the car 9months. I'm in Canada so I'm at 74,000Km now. I guess that's around 45,000 miles. So far all is good, I've only had to do one oil change with filter with regular top ups of oil since these German cars like to burn oil.
I find that the car drives smoothly, I haven't had to do any other maintenance on it yet or had any issues except for adding more coolant every couple few months. Overall I'm loving it. It's not the fastest car but it does have good pick up, good maneuvering capabilities. I've used the offroad mode and managed to get through a rocky path balanced on two wheels pretty easily lol. So as long as you don't beat it up then it should last
Overall I'd say it's great for residential and city driving, im not to sure on long road trips but will be looking to take it soon and find out

I bought a FWD SE. I like the car in general. A car, really. It has lower roof then the previous generation, and it feels more like a wagon than a SUV. I had the previous generation as well. I like the gas mileage, and no premium fuel requirement. But the new Tiguan isn’t as sporty as the first generation Tiguan. Also transmission is sluggish. There is a disconnect between 1st and 2nd gear. Previous generation Tiguan was a higher quality dual clutch transmission. Now it’s cheaper and more for fuel economy tranny. Both has synthetic faux leather, but new Tiguan material seem to be lower grade compared to previous generation.

I also observed excessive vibrations in the cabin while the engine was warming up ( we were in P and there was a visible headrest shake, on both of them). The V6 Atlas was better, no vibrations or shady gear shifts. Did you experience anything similar?

DON'T BUY THE TIGUAN AS IT HAS A LOT OF ISSUES AND DEFECTS THAT VOLKSWAGEN CANNOT FIX!!
Welcome to my hell. I leased a 2018 VW Tiguan last July and have been battling with Volkswagen since I got it with the same pillar noise (both sides), engine stalling, and the horrible jerking of the vehicle after releasing the gas pedal. There is a factory defect with Tiguans where the pillar was not properly welded together at the plant so when the vehicle's body stresses it clicks. I have taken my Tiguan to get this and the other defects taken care of and Volkswagen has no solution. I have discovered that the local service personnel are just as frustrated as they are stuck waiting on Volkswagen engineers to come up with a solution. I opened a case with VW of America to buy back my Tiguan and after months of back and forth nonsense, VW of America basically said that is the way the Tiguan functions so too bad. Once again Volkswagen has cheated their customers by ignoring a defect and not fessing up to it. So either we all get together and complain to Volkswagen, better business bureau or suffer. This is my 7th Volkswagen and my last. Good luck to all who are suffering with the Tiguans' defects.

Why do you guys always forget the Dodge Journey? Yes it’s old and car journalists hate it but it has three rows of seating, plenty of room, lots of storage and power everything. You can buy one with three rows of seats for around $21,000. If you are worried about the Journeys reliability, you can buy an extended warranty and still spend thousands of dollars less than the CR-V, Rav-4 or the Tiguan. It’s the best SUV deal in America today and families won’t have to go into debt to buy one. So anyone considering buying a three row SUV, try the Dodge Journey before you buy one of these.

1:01 "High-quality materials? " I saw this in person at the dealer and high quality did not come to mind, seats were not as wide or supportive as other suvs. Compared to CRV this was ford levels of cheap plastic interior-wise. Outside it looks good though, LED headlights, blindspot monitoring available at lower trim/price, and it was actually roomier/ offered better visibility then RAV or CRV.

Just traded one of these back in. It was a 2018 SE model. Had it about 20 months/27000 miles. Worst car I ever had. Was at the dealer 8 times the last 2 months. Constant problems (oil leaks/check engine and EPC lights). Dealer could never figure it out when they think they figured it out they never had the parts because they are to expensive to carry. So they would order and I’d have to go back. Do not buy! Junk

I bought one and love it. Rides smooth, comfortable and i just took my friend on a drive the other night and had him glued to his chair when i took off. #VWforthewin

Weaker, less powerful, cheaper, and larger. Sounds more like a 2000s American product than 2017 German product.
If I wanted 3 row seating, I would have gotten the Atlas. Why ruin the small and nimble European Tiguan?

    • @LookingGlass24
      @LookingGlass24 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Amen! I think it’s the worst thing that could’ve happened to the Tiguan. If I had wanted bigger, they’s the Touareg too. I need s smaller SUV, not this big thing. Disappointed.

I actually prefer the true 'compact' size of the old Tiguan ... now VW will be missing a Sub-compact SUV when they discontinue the Limited model.

Tiguan seems still too compact to me. Personal thought is Rav4 is much more comfortable ride from the inside. Atlas seems better if budget enough.

The RAV4 isn't really that comfortable. Lots of road noise and rattling from the cheap interior bits.

  • @Agent77X

Needs a larger engine option. A 275 hp with 280 ft. lbs. torque and would buy a Tiguan!

I have an x1 bmw with the 6 cylender engine . Its got 300 hp and 300 torque . This needs same power and torque . Too bad my lease is over in about a month . Cheers .

VWs are nice looking cars that ride great. Shame about the reliability. My friend just bought a 2020 fully loaded. In the first month, he's been back to the dealer twice. I tried to warn him.

List of competing crossovers everyone should consider over the Tiguan:
    Rogue
    CR-V
    Outlander
    RAV4
    Edge
    CX-5
    Santa Fe Sport
    Sorento
    -Equinox-
    Forester

Micah, ohhhh that lousy (too short, non-adjustable) front center arm rest! This was the FIRST thing I noticed when I sat in a new Tiguan back in August. See there, I'm not the only person who notices. Since I could not get comfortable, I did not bother with a test drive.
