Gibson necks do not use a glued on headstock. Ironically, they would break less if they did.

I get the humour, and maybe ive just been lucky or really careful. But ive owned a hand full of Les Pauls, and at least 10 Sg’s and ive not one had an issue with the neck breaking, or any other major issues. I just bought and returned a brand new 61 reissue because it had 9 cracks in the finish, out of the box. But that’s the worst I’ve seen.

I work at Ecovantage. We do thermally modified lumber. I personally hand stack and process the guitar wood for Ernie Ball, fender, and several other manufacturers who buy through American Specialty hardwoods.

I've been playing a lot of Carvin basses for almost four decades.
Bought my first Carvin LB40F fretless from their store in Hollywood in 1987.
I have a Kiesel Osiris five string fretless bass with the hard as nails fingerboard.
Sometime you don't ask why, you just enjoy them.

It's a stable neck system. I'm impressed . Serious utility. I like you using the term "bonding agent" . Very pleased with my Kiesel... my turnaround time was slightly under the estimate . 18 weeks or something. No problems with fulfillment at all.

I buy flat sawn kiln dried jatoba, wenge, and figured maple from a local supplier for my necks. I rip the blanks lengthwise into three pieces, flip each piece 90°, and then glue them back together to make an engineered quartersawn blank.
I also use cabon fiber rods and two-way truss rods. My necks do not move.
I use a flat headstock, like Fender uses. I'm not opposed to tilt-back headstocks, but in my opinion, unless a scarf joint is used, there is too much waste wood produced by using a blank that is thick enough to accommodate the depth a tilt-back requires.
Ironically, Gibson used 3 and 5-piece maple necks in the 70s (with a volute), and those necks of theirs in particular are their strongest and least break prone.

Thanks Jeff for doing these videos. I own 4 Kiesel guitars and 2 had two others when they were called Carvin. I've also owned the Carvin V3m Amp head and a solid-state SX200 combo amp. I have never had one issue with the guitars or the amps - and they have always stood out amongst the standard ones on stage. I visited the showroom about 20 times and their customer service and knowledge is incredible.... far beyond what you typically expect at your local guitar store. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks Kiesel/Carvin for your excellent products. Rock On!

I have an old (88) V220 and a newer JB200C and they're both fantastic guitars that I can't ever see myself selling. I've had the V220 for 34 years. I've got other brands, other US made guitars, and a couple Japanese Ibanez ('88 JEM and RG). I may actually love a couple of them as much as my V220 and JB, but there are none of others that I love more. One of these days I'm going to get a new Hyperdrive or V220. Good video, great guitars.

I know that you have a lot of options for different types of bridges and what not, I was wondering if in the future you will consider also adding the Schaller roller saddle Hardtail to your options. I have 2 guitars with the Hipshot amd it’s a great bridge, but I also have one with the Schaller and it’s even better, Plus I like the fact that the strings don’t have to go through the body.

Thanks for valuable information man. I have one question about carbon rods. Im designing and buidling semi hollow neck through 6 string guitar. For neck, I have one piece of perfectly quarter sawn european maple (not flame maple). Neck will with 12 inch radius and pretty standart neck thickness, I would say 21mm at 1th fret and 22mm at 12th fret. Do I need to use carbon reinforcement or not? Or its just more of preference in this case? Im asking because of that neck through design... thanks very much for answer.

Considering a five-string headless Kiesel bass. Stock, these instruments come with a quarter sawn maple neck with two carbon rods. Sounds pretty darn stable to me. My question is does it make sense, in addition, to get a roasted maple neck? Now if you're just going for aesthetic because roasted maple has a pretty cool look, then go for it. But in my case this is strictly for set it and forget it neck stability. And if that's the case, is ordering a roasted maple neck in addition to what the stock neck already comes with, complete overkill? Anyone? Thanks!
