I hear a lot people mention the customer service and how it's really subpar which is what actually stopped me from ordering from them. I remember you wrote the email about the tuning in your video too.

I watched this video with a sense of looming terror, waiting to hear what issues you were experiencing from Keisel!
The demo song sounded wonderful, Leo! And it's a really beautiful composition, as well!
In a way, I was relieved by the time that you got to the issues; I was relieved that they weren't worse! But still, Keisel must know that your channel exists, and as a small fish potential customer in the USA, you by comparison are a premium customer! Keisel failed the most basic quality assurance or quality control process before shipping you your guitar. Then on top of that, Keisel also failed the most basic customer service when not respecting the requests you've made via email.
Keisel should respond and apologize, and send you a tracking number for the pickguard and knobs. Excellent customer service at this point would be a personal apology from whomever's job it was to handle your order. The failure of the ordering process to inform the buyer about the loss of the tone control also must be made up for. A company which truly cared would pledge to fix the erroneous information in the ordering software. Keisel should also arrange and pay for your guitar's electronics to be altered with a double pot and stereo output jack, or other arrangement to which you agree, to solve their mistake.
Leo, if you as a kind of informal international Keisel brand ambassador and super fan, owning 3 of their instruments, is not given excellent customer service, what hope is there for those of us without an established platform, and without the instrument budget that you have? Keisel would have to really dazzle us with their response to you for me to consider doing business with them in the future.

Hi, thank you so much, I'm super happy that you like the demo song!!!
Let's see what's gonna happen, honestly I don't expect anything... likely the guitar is great and I enjoy a lot playing her... maybe this video could help them to increase the quality of their customer service and can help other guitarist to carefully use the web configurator.
      Thank you once more!

I agree with the comments. Direct to consumer sales, customer service has to be a top priority. Hard fail here. Will be interested in your follow up report on what, if anything Keisel does to fix the issues. My friend that plays bass with me in our church band is a Carvin super fan and has several of their guitars and basses. This was all before the name change to Keisel. They are very high quality instruments. Sad that there's not customer service to match. Great video and demo song as always Leo. Looks like you've got a great new guitar, despite a few annoying issues. God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸

I ordered a Kiesel Osirus last November and it was delivered in late February. It came exactly as I ordered it. This guitar is rock solid, plays like a dream, sounds fantastic, with 5 different sound options available via the 5 way switch. I wrote to them twice while waiting for delivery and they responded to both messages within 1 or 2 days.
I do think that they could do a lot to improve their customers experiences. However, my experience was a good one. And I'm sold on the quality of their product.

The guitar looks and sounds amazing. And i have heard about the Kiesel customer service fail too many times. Honestly it does not even make sense such a company that exclusively distrubite their own guitars to have such a poor customer service. That sould be their strong side. But the guitars looks and sounds awesome :D I would like to get a delos with holdsworth pickups. I have heard that they are mid-focused, have medium output and really good for hard rock sound.

You are very lucky that they changed the black plastic knobs to black metallic ones because that looks way way better. The plastic ones should only be matched with guitars that have a plastic pickguard. But of course they should have asked the customer beforehand before they fixed the 'mistake' the customer probably made. Tuning it in Eb takes 10 seconds.

I don't know why Jeff Kiesel stopped offering an extra output for the piezo pickup. My older Carvin Holdsworth Fatboy has not only an extra output, but also an onboard active parametric EQ with 2 tone controls with a cut/boost feature for each. The magnetic pickups have their own output, volume and tone controls. Not to mention a 3rd output for midi with its own volume and up/down program selector switch. There's not much control with only a single output on your Zeus.... and it cuts the tone control out of the circuit!?! What are they thinking??? There are some other changes I don't much care for since Jeff Kiesel took over from his father. Don't know if I'll buy a Kiesel guitar. I do like some of the headless models, but if I can't get a piezo pickup without its own output & tone and volume controls I don't know. That's become important to me since I first started playing electric guitars w/ a piezo & magnetic p'ups back in the 1980's.

I have 2 kiesels that I bought used and love them, I’ll definitely be getting another one used. I called once to place an order for a brand new one and honestly the salesman sounded bored and jaded and not helpful at all and as I was asking questions as I wanted a pretty specific build he wasn’t being helpful and only answered “yep… nope.. nope can’t do that” and I got annoyed by it and just said “ nevermind I’ll get something else instead “ and he just said “ok” and we hung up…
Second time I traded a few emails with another salesman and he was nicer, I gave him the specs I wanted and he put up a price for me, but the way they charge extra for every little thing adds up quick and it ended up being lot more than I was looking to spend. I’ll stick to the used market and let someone else take the hit on the price. I still like their guitars (just as I like Gibsons even with their stupid “play authentic”shenanigans

Hi Rob, good points. I also have two used Kiesels and this one that is a custom order...in the used market you are spending less money and you know exactly what you get, even if it could be different from your "perfect" specs....where buying new you spend more, and you should get the specs you want...even if not always...😀. Therefore finally in the used market you have to be patient, but you can get some very good occasions...

Me too have a used Kiesel. Been watching their and customer review video’s some time now and got really excited. But because I never played a Kiesel before I thought it would be wiser to start with a used one first to get a feel of the guitar. It is a DC700 stringthrough with a thinner neck and 20inch radius. Still not sure if I prefer the 20 over the standard 14 but the thinner neck is something I probaby would not order if I’d buy a new Kiesel. There are more pro’s and cons to mention but I am happy that I didnt’t bought a new one. Now I know what I like and don’t like. The only minor thing when buying used guitars is that you can never know what the factory setup was. Because a good setup is far from easy and I prefer a specialist doing it than myself.

@Leo Gibson great review! Yes, as Jaime mentioned, I would be shocked if that wasn't a stereo jack like some Rickenbackers. Using a Y cable from a single stereo output is more ergonomical than 2 cables coming out of the guitar. You can even use a single stereo cable, then split it when it's closer to your amps or mixing board which is a much better option.

I agree with you on their awful customer service!, there's lots of stories about the same issues, recently there was another youtuber I can't remember his name that had a big Carvin Kiesel collection and got ignored and neglected by Kiesel just for pointing an error on the finish of another kiesel guitar he had ordered that was also very expensive, There's many comments of ex-workers of Kiesel that say that once Jeff took the lead customer service and quality went downhill as Jeff Kiesel is a very difficult and arrogant person, They still have good guitars but nothing compared to what Carvin used to be as a whole manufacturer of Guitars and amps

Awesome video, guitar, and playing. I have a Kiesel CS6 with the piezo saddles and HSH pickup configuration and a toggle switch to add the neck pickup (so I can get neck/bridge simultaneously as well as all 3 pickups simultaneously, as well as all the standard Strat 5-way configurations). I designed it online but I STRONGLY recommend CALLING their toll free number to place your order with a real person like I did. Especially if you want some non-standard stuff like HSH pickup configuration, custom switching, etc, like I had. Placing my order with a real person was key to getting the custom stuff that you can't specify with the online builder. Talking to a real person also allows you to clarify things that might not be clear, and these guys are experts and can give great advice if you have questions regarding what options to select. As Jeff Kiesel says all the time "Call my guys". There is a reason for that. You don't want to place a 3000 dollar order online and then just hope for the best. Especially if you're asking for stuff like Eb tuning. My overall experience with ordering was excellent. The only issue I had with the guitar was when it arrived, the piezo saddles didn't work. I did email them about it and they were pretty responsive. After doing the troubleshooting they recommended without it fixing the problem they told me to ship the guitar back at their expense and they fixed the problem right away and sent it back. So it was no cost to me, just added an additional 2 weeks because of shipping from the East Coast to San Diego and back again. I have about 30 guitars including all the big names and I would say the Kiesel is easily the most beautiful and most versatile of them all. No regrets whatsoever and would totally order another (again, by calling their toll free number and ordering on the phone). I honestly think the value you get for the money from Kiesel is 2nd to none. I paid about 2600 dollars (ordered in autumn of 2020 before the most recent price increase) for a guitar that is essentially a functional hybrid of a PRS modern Eagle and PRS Piezo and looks just as good as a private stock PRS at 1/3 to 1/2 the price.

Hi, thank you so much, both for the compliments and for sharing your experience. You are right, a call could have been the solution. Let me just say that I'm not 100% sure that it would have worked for me, as I'm not from USA and I'm not native tongue, so I'm not sure I would have properly understood and explained all my needs. As regards the Eb, well I think it was a pretty easy request, that I have reiterated even in different emails...telling them how important it was for me...I'm not sure they would have taken this request into account even after a call...
Thank you once more, your experience could be for sure of a great help for other guitarists interested in their guitars!

Questions which may have been asked or addressed. Is the output jack a stereo jack or could it be switched to a stereo jack then you could break out the piezo and magnetic into two channels with a stereo cable?
Also, you could switch one or both of the volume knobs for a stacked knobs so you could have a tone control for the whole guitar under one knob or have a tone knob for each style of pickup under each volume knob. I have seen some older Jazz basses with this circuit.
Could you get Kiesel to reimburse you for the service from a local repair shop as a means to make things a little better?

I have an HD Delos as well that I've had for about a month. The time from order to delivery was about 17 weeks, but this was a much simpler build. The only major options were 3 Johnny Hiland single-coil pickups and a 3-piece neck. The workmanship and setup are absolutely perfect. This is the first guitar I've owned with a tung-oiled neck and I am amazed by how smooth it is.
Now that I have the guitar, is there anything I would have done differently? Yes. I would have gotten swamp ash instead of alder for lighter weight (my guitar is 6.25 lbs). I would have ordered the same control layout as on the Hiland model, but when I ordered I did not know it was different from the standard layout. I blame my own lack of research for both issues, not Kiesel. I got exactly what I ordered, with impeccable workmanship.
My own advice for anyone considering ordering a Kiesel is to not just rip through the configurator and order, as I did, but to spend a couple of days thinking about that you really want, and if you have any questions, just ask.
Leo, I believe the separate jack for the acoustic saddles was the standard up until a few years ago because I remember seeing a review discussing it here on TH-cam. I'm sure this is less expensive for Keisel and probably most customers won't care. I also didn't know about the loss of the tone knob, so thank you for the heads up about that.
    Cheers!

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience!!!
These are great guitars and you are right, you have to be very careful with the configurator! In my case the knobs were properly selected...so I don't really know what happened... as regards the output, it could be even a good choice if you use an amp modelling pedalboard, with which you can define specific preset for the acoustic guitar.
      Thank you!

It's unfortunate that you've run into problems with the Specs you ordered and what you got. The guitar is obviously beautiful and sounds great. If I understand correctly, you got the bridge Piezo pickups, but no tone control for them. That's a major problem in my opinion, as that type of pickup tends to be excessively bright, and near useless without a tone pot. They should send you the correct style tone knobs you ordered. Not setting up the guitar for Eb Standard tuning, though a mistake on their part, is relatively easy to correct, but you paid for them to do it, and they should have delivered.
As a repeat customer, they should have given you much better care. These errors, mistakes, and poor Customer Service are the kind of things that can make guitarists second guess about purchasing from them.

Hi, yes, I do agree with everything you said. You are right, the guitar does not have a tone knob, as the second knob is used for the volume of the piezo...which was something I did not understood while configuring the guitar...

@@LeoGibsonGtr I have experimented with combining a Piezo with an electric guitar pickup (Humbucker, and Single Coil) and a very real problem is Phasing/signal cancellation/comb filtering. If it's going to work, some sophisticated electronics will probably be needed. I ended up having separate jacks for each type of pickup, and running them into different inputs on a Mixer. I found it much easier to deal with them that way. In the video, you mentioned your preference for having two jacks as well. 👍😎

You know Leo, a guy with your abilities doesn't have to spend thousands on a custom guitar. I bet you can play a broom stick and it will still sound amazing. I used to sell top guitar brands and the more expensive or successful the brand became, the worse their customer service got. That happened to Gibson, Fender and, for example, Ibanez. Once they get your money, it's bye bye. Kiesel, Schmiesel...I have my own custom made guitars that I assembled myself. Never looked back. Great playing!

Customer service is incredibly important - for Kiesel to allow your relationship with them to deteriorate to these depths, where you are publicly complaining about them on a TH-cam platform - constitutes a monumental failure on their part, which they should correct ASAP. Kiesel used to be "Carvin," which went out of business; Kiesel is still owned and operated by the same family, and may suffer from legacy ideology and management issues. It's quite possible the new show-runner at Kiesel is more capitalist than customer service, despite the flashy salesmanship.

The customer experience seems to be hit and miss with Kiesel. In the end, these are rather small complaints which I hope they will make right eventually. We might think that spending $3K on a guitar should get us a better experience but it’s really just a routine sale to them. Nothing special.

Kiesel sells thousands of custom guitars every year and unfortunately we hear about a few bad experiences every once in a while. I called in my order and talking to a salesman has helped answer all the questions I had and get my kiesel exactly as I wanted. It came better than I expected actually. They also say in their website that once you post an order you can’t change anything because of how the order goes to different departments and they would have to track all the paperwork to make the changes. Unfortunately that includes changing the tuning on the setup. I know that sounds stupid and annoying as you are paying big money for a custom made instrument, but I understand they have thousands of orders going at the same time and making changes might actually take a lot of time in paperwork and and tracking the build in the warehouse. More like a user error when placing the order so can’t really blame them. (I wanted to change something in my order too and was told it wasn’t possible so I know how annoying that is )

Well, for me this is not 10 minutes, as you have to set the springs finding the right spot, to verify the overall intonation, to set the proper action, to tune accordingly, etc.. Paying 3 grand for a guitar, I would like an expert doing these things for me.
On the other hand, if it is so simple, why they didn't do it for me?
