I have a Rolex but it's now too expensive to service and buy. It used to be my workhorse watch but has become a fashion item for posers. I bought the Steinhart Vintage Red when the Rolex was away for 6 weeks being serviced for Euros 1000 !!! I now wear the Steinhart and many times forget that it's not my Rolex which is now in the safe.
I love the Steinhart its just a classy looking sub. The glycine is also a good looking watch but i like the look of solid end links and i love ceramic or sapphire bezels. Steinhart just makes a good solid watch with high end materials for the price.
I guess you mean fitted end-links? I'd guess he has his Glycine on an aftermarket bracelet with straight end-links. The factory one has end-links that sit flush with the case and that leave no gap between the case and the bracelet. Also: Since it's a vintage piece, this version of the Steinhart doesn't have a ceramic bezel insert, either.
Glycine deserves much more attention and respect than they currently receive. I see them on par with Hamilton and Tissot. The Airman and combat sub lines are strong enough to keep the brand going. They suffer from poor marketing and inconsistent pricing. Their heavily discounted prices give the impression of them being cheap when that’s not the case. They should have been part of the swatch group. The brand needs to make some organizational changes.
Definitely prefer the Steinhart, I’ve been very impressed with them lately a lot of watch for the money. I can’t find a better watch than the ocean 1 gmt ceramic in the UK for the same money.

Glycine any day of the week. Despite being bought by Invicta there brand is much more reputable and prestigious (being founded in 1914) I own an airman and a gl0083 combat sub 42. Both I bought around the time when my fiancé was about to give birth to our kids. I have both of our kids birth dates engraved on the back of both glycines. I own a Steinhart Ocean One Titanium GMT and a Glycine Airman Base 22 - 24 hour purist. My Glycine has already needed repair within one month. The customer service is horrible and their warranty is not worth the paper it’s written on (Invicta type warranty). By far, the Steinhart is the much better watch. Sorry you had a rough experience with your Glycine. Mine is still going strong over 2 years later (no service required). That said, I respect that you prefer Steinhart, because they make fantastic watches as well :)
When did Invicta buy out Glycine? The difference may lie in pre-Invicta v. post Invicta takeover. @@blueonyx7628 invicta took over Glycine about 2 years ago. I actually did a video on this for invicta watches, if you are interested in knowing more. Cheers
Man, what world are we living in? What people are you guys associating with? The people I know wouldn’t care about this that much. They might be curious, they might have an opinion about it (perhaps being amused or not keen on products which mimic others) but they would never make a big deal out of it. And since when is a 400 dollar watch not luxurious enough on our wrist? I am not saying it is luxury (most of the more known bigger names aren’t considered to be either) but many people wear watches which cost far less.
Great comparison review. My only suggestion is to reveal the individual scores after you discuss the details of each category. That tends to keep the viewer more interested in the details. Again thanks for a great video.
Glycine is not a homage to the Rolex sub,it completely it own style, doesn't mean because it has a dezel and round case that it's an homage, the gylcine is very slim and different case design and different styles,I have the glycine and it's nothing like my dad's sub,the Steinhart isn't a sea dweller homage it's a sub homage
Thanks for your insight. I do agree that the Glycine is not a homage piece like I have stated in this video. The more I wear it, the more I appreciate it's unique qualities.
The Steinhart is a copy of the ROLEX SEA-DWELLER DOUBLE RED 1665, which is out of production for decades, and usually has a five digit price tag. If you can find one...
Good review. But disagree on the durability rating. Thin case does not equal lower durability. Omega Seamasters have thin cases and they are very durable as an example.
i do not own a glycine but i do have rolex sub no date and a steinhart "kermit" and i have to say the steinhart is a really good watch. it doesn't deserve all the hate that it gets.
Glycine is Swiss so it's pronounced more like 'glee - tsee - nuh' or 'glee - tseen'. Also, not all of their watches have ETA movements, mine are fitted with Sellita SW 200-1. If you buy one you will have to open it to find out what movement is in there.
Be wary of Steinhart watches. I've purchased 3 and 2 have problems. The crown fell off one. The worst part is the fact that you have to send it to the company in Germany for service/repair. I'm not shipping a watch to Germany from USA. At least Glycine has a USA facility. I've recently acquired 2 Glycine watches.
If you used the Glycine 46MM Combat Sub it's got both 300M water Resistance and 120 click Brazil rotation. I just bought one off Jomashop for $309 USD 😲😆
Sure, the bracelet is a 22mm Super Oyster from Strapcode. I have the Amazon link to here: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00YAERU1Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?It's also referenced in my past Glycine Combat Sub review video.
You're only seeing that because it is a straight end link and not the original bracelet that comes with the glycine, which fits to the lug curved. If you bought the glycine you would have the bracelet fit as you see it fitting the steinhardt.
I feel that in some ways, despite the Steinhart Ocean Vintage Red being a larger watch, it could perhaps fit into formal occasions more easily due to the dial design. The dials and hands are more reminiscent of a field watch whereas with the Steinhart (and, of course, the Rolex design), it looks like something that is more versatile, just in the same way a Submariner is extremely versatile.
So hard to decide between the two brands. I've narrowed down my list, eliminating a few micro-brands and now I'm down to the Combat Sub 0249 (orange chapter ring dial, metal bracelet), the Steinhart OVM and the Steinhart 39 Vintage GMT Premium (ceramic Pepsi). Or perhaps the 39 Premium GMT Batman? Damn... told you this was hard... :D Problem is that I'll only be able to try out the Steinharts in person (their German dealer is about 40 mins from my town) and I'd have to buy the Glycine sight unseen. In a perfect world, I'd get all three (four) - I like them all that much. But, yeah... so far, I'm leaning towards Steinhart, if only because I would be able to try them out and buy from a brick-and-mortar-store.
@@danceartist8203 This is the Invicta company policy. This is the Invicta company policy. Price tag with far inflated price - then discount price as selling price. I call this fool catching.
Thanks for the review. If you like lume, go for the Glycine. It's better than the Seiko Divers. I have a bronze Combat Sub. It's an awesome piece. If you like the more bulcky and homage watches, go for a Steinhart. Great quality for a small price.
Idk if steinhart regulate their watch bur i regulated mine and now it works extremely solid like +/- 0.2s/d - results are mostly like 1 or 2 secs deviation after 3 weeks of permanent use.
Have both watches and like the Steinhart much better. Better looking. Better quality. Think it is more comfortable. Appreciate your thoughts but would definitely choose the Steinhart over the Glycine.
I went into a Swiss watch dealership in London to buy one of these Glycines: I walked out without buying - it felt very clicky and flimsy in the hand like a very cheap watch. That was my opinion at the time.
Points to glyicine for being a more original design and for being slimmer. Knock for glycine for the whacky marketing and pricing, thanks invicta. Point to steinhart for being well made. But deduction for being a blatant submariner homage. But overall, there is not a lot of room for variation in terms of a black dive watch. Rolex made the template and everybody else mostly follows. Brushed finish with polished accents, Knurled 60 minute black bezel with lume pip at 12, 3'clock date window, white markers with accentuated 12, 6 and 9 and lume, large legible lumed handset, 3'oclock crown with crown guards and an oyster style bracelet. As far as dive watches go, at least panerai offer something different, the pasha de cartier too, or the longines super compressor style dive watch.
Against my better judgement,i bought an invicta with the yellow seiko mvmnt. Ignored the bad press. First time in the pool the invicta filled w water. No big deal.thought id just return it get another one.cust service was non existant and they basically laughed at me. So if glycene was bought by invicta caveat emptor. Wont EVER do business with any of their companies ever again. I would have taken up the issue w ebay but im in europe and its not worth it.glycene mat have been around 1914 but im sure invicta will ruin their name also.
Cannot go wrong with the combat sub for under 400 bucks. Selitta sw200 movement not eta anymore. Basically invicta is backing up the name and sale but has nothing too do with the manufacturing thk god. If only steinhart made more divers not homages.
Umm seriously on the brand front? I t doesn't matter how well made the steinhart is (it would have to be near Chris Ward minimum, or Oris at least which it isn't to make even half an argument) it will never outdo the brand that invented the GMT concept BEFORE Rolex?
I out score this quite different. Glycine would take it away by a much larger margin. I think the glycine has the best shaped case lugs of any dive watch out there. It's the thinnest dive watch made today. That is no small task that is some seriously genius Manufacturing. Steinhart watches are huge in case thickness and that's a big thing that keeps me away other than them being a COPY. A Parnis actually has better machining than steinhart. Ceramic bezels on ever watch.
Owned both. Sold my GCS as I felt it was.cheaper in feel. My Steinhart holds its value. Glycine may have been a quality watch at one time but after Invicta bought them I dont trust their quality anymore.
It’s a shame that the invicta crap is going to splash up on glyceine , the GCS is a fine watch, but you are correct nobody should want invicta associated with their product

@@petrparizek6575 Yes and? It is the Swatch company. Omega and other Swiss brands (Blancpain, Mido, Tissot, Hamilton and others) continue to produce their watches independently. Not a very unbiased review in my opinion. Immediately, you leaned towards the Glycine. Even the marker you used to over the scores was Glycine literature. And the reasons behind it, proves as such.
Sorry you feel that way. I try to approach all of my reviews unbiased and on my personal experience with the watches. The Glycine literature was only in the video because it covered the score-card really well, while the Steinhart literature was smaller. You can see by the scores that I love both pieces and they are both excellent watches. At the end of the day, its just my humble opinion and you can take it or leave it, no worries.
Oh my god that glycine, should have a 2 for style the word combat on the dial ....really !! Great if your 12 , wouldn't be seen dead with that . Steinhart is 2 levels above it easily
Nice Glycine, but that Miltat oyster bracelet has SHARP EDGES, like a DULL KNIFE SCRAPING THE SKIN, and you do not mention anything about it, as if you are not responsible for the marketing effect of its mere presence married to your GLycine watch. If you don’t understand this criticism, then you are not worthy of the viewers’ attention. So, good bye to ya!
Bad illumination. You need another light above to illuminate the watches. The watches are in shadow , specially when you take the watch in your hands. Bad video lighting.
Invicta owning Glycine only opened up more marketing for Glycine...nothing more. Glycine is still manufactured in the same place by the same people etc...nothings else has changed.
That's like saying you have your own business. A big business comes in and say they want to give you a bunch of money for marketing and you can still run your company exactly as you see fit. And your same factories same Parts everything they just want to help you out with some money in marketing. Yeah of course you're going to say no 🤦🏽♂️ 🤔.

@@blueonyx7628 invicta took over Glycine about 2 years ago. I actually did a video on this for invicta watches, if you are interested in knowing more. Cheers
Love them both,I think the Glycine just shades it.Love the dome shape on the Steinhart.
My vote goes to steinhart👍👍
Keyser Söze complete trash and undignified comment!
Keyser Söze EVERYONE WHO SEES A ROLEX WONDERS IF I TS REAL. go enjoy that douche bag
I respect your opinion, but I am buying a Steinhart. Nice vid.
Yeah, you can't really go wrong with either. I love my Steinhart too.
What brand the is band of the gylcine watch? I want one for my watch.
I have both, I like the Steinhart and I love the Glycine !!
I had a big heavy Rolex two tone submariner it wore my wrist off time for a combat sub
Good review. But disagree on the durability rating. Thin case does not equal lower durability. Omega Seamasters have thin cases and they are very durable as an example.
Appreciate your insight, thanks :)
Glycine is awesome. Hopefully Invicta won't F this brand up like they have their own.
i do not own a glycine but i do have rolex sub no date and a steinhart "kermit" and i have to say the steinhart is a really good watch. it doesn't deserve all the hate that it gets.
Glycine is Swiss so it's pronounced more like 'glee - tsee - nuh' or 'glee - tseen'. Also, not all of their watches have ETA movements, mine are fitted with Sellita SW 200-1. If you buy one you will have to open it to find out what movement is in there.
Great video! Thanks for the comparison. Where did you find the aftermarket bracelet for the Glycine?
Thanks! You can find the straight link 22mm oyster bracelet from StrapCode (or on Amazon)
Steinhart = fake Rolex without the Rolex logo. Glycine all the way.
Steinhart are the way for me!!!
Which bracelet do you have on your combat sub?
I have this watch on a 22mm Super Oyster bracelet from Strapcode.
Nice review! I like the Glycine.
the readability alone on the glycine is a winner.
can you add a link on where you got the glycine bracelet?
Sure, the bracelet is a 22mm Super Oyster from Strapcode. I have the Amazon link to here: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00YAERU1Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?It's also referenced in my past Glycine Combat Sub review video.
think its probably a strapcode with straight end links
You're only seeing that because it is a straight end link and not the original bracelet that comes with the glycine, which fits to the lug curved. If you bought the glycine you would have the bracelet fit as you see it fitting the steinhardt.
no lume comparison?
Problem is that I'll only be able to try out the Steinharts in person (their German dealer is about 40 mins from my town) and I'd have to buy the Glycine sight unseen.
In a perfect world, I'd get all three (four) - I like them all that much. But, yeah... so far, I'm leaning towards Steinhart, if only because I would be able to try them out and buy from a brick-and-mortar-store.
Steinhart for me keeps it value .Glycine can get them now for 280
How is that a bad thing though? The Steinhart is just more than €100 more expensive now
@@danceartist8203 This is the Invicta company policy.
The build is certainly amazing indeed.
What's the exact model no. of both watches? Tia
The Glycine is Ref# 3863.196 N and the Steinhart is Ref# 103-0657. Hope that helps!
The glycine movements are regulated.
Do you know to what degree?
@@saullevy5074 i believe 3 positions
Idk if steinhart regulate their watch bur i regulated mine and now it works extremely solid like +/- 0.2s/d - results are mostly like 1 or 2 secs deviation after 3 weeks of permanent use.
That seems to be a moot point cuz the douche in the video said they both run at + 5 seconds a day
Glycine is a much more respected brand in the watch community for sure .
Have both watches and like the Steinhart much better. Better looking. Better quality. Think it is more comfortable.
Appreciate your thoughts but would definitely choose the Steinhart over the Glycine.
Thanks, I'm glad to hear your feedback and support for the Steinhart over the Glycine. Both are great watches as you said :)
I do like the quality of finish on the Steinhart!
@@mathisgales1135 actually invicta has nothing too do with the manufacturing of the brand..thk god.
I went into a Swiss watch dealership in London to buy one of these Glycines: I walked out without buying - it felt very clicky and flimsy in the hand like a very cheap watch. That was my opinion at the time.
Troll post
@@itskootadefinitely
Steinhart is the better watch for me.
I had one, their customer service is garbage
Hello From Brasil (There are a lot of companies that imitate and do almost the same as Rolex, but only this one is famous)
Glycine FTW
Very good the watch.
Cannot go wrong with the combat sub for under 400 bucks. Selitta sw200 movement not eta anymore. Basically invicta is backing up the name and sale but has nothing too do with the manufacturing thk god. If only steinhart made more divers not homages.
I wanted to make up mind by watching the video. I couldn’t be more confused.
Steinhart all the way.
So, the Invicta won?
The Steinhart logo looks like a pineapple.
a tasty pineapple :)
I ended up buying both lol
Nice, lol
Do you still have them both?
Ah!!. Please ,five second minet to go. For I see the table. Excuse me my english. Thank you.
@@Mark-sd7fc )
Steinhart: Style=0
Since they are both only a fraction of the cost of a Rolex, why not just buy both, then if you really dont like one of them sell the one you dont like
can't imagine anyone would vote a glyncine over a steinhart...but both nice.. :)
Yeah, both great watches. Thanks for your input
I think you may have copied this from "just one more watch" LOL
Thanks for the comment, but this was original content from my experience owning both timepieces. I am sure that both brands get compared a lot though, and by more popular /established TH-camrs
@@EverydayWatchGuy I own the Steinhart and it's superb, and perhaps one day I may purchase a Glycine. Unfortunately Glycine watches are hard to pick up in the UK, especially at a good price. My comment was regarding your video format, not the actual content. Interesting comparison, and I enjoyed the video.
Stienhart is a big time rolex copy cat. Of course they look appealing to the eye but I personally would feel like i am sporting a fake wannabe.
Yes, it’s called a homage watch. They only copy discontinued watches, and not directly. They also have quite a few original designers too.
'Not like tag' no they aren't thankfully!
The Steinhart clearly has the best Sea Dweller resemblance. I would have given them both high marks in the brand category.
Fair enough. Thanks for the feedback :)
You can't be serious about brand? Glycine 1914.....Steinhart 2001.
isn't glycine owned by (ugh), invicta. maybe not, i am not sure, but, if so, pass.
Invicta did buy out glycine a couple of years back. I did a recent video on this if you want to check it out :)
So...Breguet and Omega are owned by plastic quartz company swatch.
@@deansusec8745 Exactly, that is a valid argument which the Invicta haters do not consider.
@@petrparizek6575 I dont hate. I think some of them are gaudy huge and blingy, and some look cheaply made, but bear in mind they are for a specific audience. If they wanted to make more expensive watches they would.
@@petrparizek6575 Yes and? It is the Swatch company. Omega and other Swiss brands (Blancpain, Mido, Tissot, Hamilton and others) continue to produce their watches independently.
Invicta bought the brand name Invicta and produces junk watches, pretending to be a luxury manufacturer. Price tag $600, sells for $99. They seem to be doing something similar with Gylcine now. Has anyone ever paid the original price of an Invicta? I don't think so.
Steinhart=German soul and Swiss made
German company... Chinese made actually with the swiss eta movement being the only part swiss made...they are allowed to have the swiss made logo only because the movement makes up more than 50% of the cost to make it
Would definitely not say they are the best entry-level watches. Davosa among others are better quality swiss entry level watches
Davosa is not really better only tje lume. The Movements are the same. The WR is 300 for Steinhart and 200 for davosa.
@@Shadowwalker1717 The build Quality is better wasn't talking about the movement. And not sure about the movement but there are different 3 or 4 different grades of the ETA 2824 And I believe Davosa does use a better grade ETA not just the standard.

Lume about the same?
The lume is fairly on par with each other. I think the Glycine is more intense, but the Steinhart has more surface area for the lume.
No thanks, I will stick to my Ray Raven 2
No son comparables, por favor 🤬
Not a very unbiased review in my opinion. Immediately, you leaned towards the Glycine. Even the marker you used to over the scores was Glycine literature. And the reasons behind it, proves as such.
Sorry you feel that way. I try to approach all of my reviews unbiased and on my personal experience with the watches. The Glycine literature was only in the video because it covered the score-card really well, while the Steinhart literature was smaller. You can see by the scores that I love both pieces and they are both excellent watches. At the end of the day, its just my humble opinion and you can take it or leave it, no worries.
Extremely unbiased review in my opinion
Watching the video immediately obvious you favour the Glycine it's plain to see over the steinhart
✌🏽
Didn't even have to watch video. In his videos, the marker he uses to block scores, always details the winner. Very biased towards the Glycine.
That is not the case at all. Please see my detailed response to your previous comment in the comment thread below. Both are great watches :)
Bad illumination. You need another light above to illuminate the watches. The watches are in shadow , specially when you take the watch in your hands. Bad video lighting.
Glycene was bought by invicta big thumbs DOWN
Very true. However, in the case of the Combat Sub, I don't see any change in quality from Glycine.
Invicta owning Glycine only opened up more marketing for Glycine...nothing more. Glycine is still manufactured in the same place by the same people etc...nothings else has changed.
@@grapevinelover1 thank god.😀😀😀😀❤💯💪
That's like saying you have your own business. A big business comes in and say they want to give you a bunch of money for marketing and you can still run your company exactly as you see fit. And your same factories same Parts everything they just want to help you out with some money in marketing. Yeah of course you're going to say no 🤦🏽♂️ 🤔.
