Excellent! You are the only one that explained through the end. How to remove the tire from the lift cable. I was once stuck in Mexico with a flat, I was losing light- I could not figure out this last part. A sweeper at the toll gate showed and did it for me. Saved me from paying for a tow 30 miles into the nearest city. Boy was my tip generous and gracious! I’ve looked at 6 videos and you are the only one that successfully dumbed it down. Great job! Thank you.
Thank you so much for the instructions, I had my 1st flat on my 2002 suburban today and didn't have a clue how to get the tire from underneath the car. You made it very clear 👏
I have had my 2001 Chevy Tahoe for about 7 months (no flats yet), and this is the very first instruction video I've watched on how to lower the spare. Thank you very much!
Your video was help!! If someone raises the Jack hoist up without the tire and goes to far… it’s possible for the button to get pressed in and go to far and go inside the main Jack hoist housing… you will need to press the button and pull down to get it from the inside of the main body of the lack!
Your video a year later is still helping people get their spare tire removed. Thank you!!! Best self explanatory video I've come across to help me, a woman, get my blown out tire replaced. Again thank you!
This video saved my butt. I broke down and the highway safety crew who rescue people didn't even know how to free the tire from the end piece on the chain.
I had a blowout on the fwy the other day and the AAA guy couldn't find my tool pouch and I ended up getting another tire for my 2001 Suburban cuz he couldn'tget to my spare. He was saying it should have been under one of my seats. He also looked where those cubbies are in the back but I don't think he looked in the exact place you were showing. I was assuming the pouch might've gotten stolen a couple of months earlier when my truck was broken into but I'm gonna check again and see if I can find it.
I'm sure, there have been some funny yet stressful experiences come about due to this little booger, I know I did. Thank You for making this so easy to understand.
It help me half ways your video thanks but last owner changed the wheels which nothing that was in the suburban it was going to help to remove the flat tire so I end up call the tow truck but thank you for helping me find the tools to remove the spare.
❤❤❤ i just want to say OMG 🤯 I’ve had my Suburban for a little over 10 years and never knew this!! Just wow! You are my hero ! You are the goat for making this video!!! ty for answering a pain in my traveling circus’ ass! 😅🎉 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🥰❤️💙
OMG, THK U SO MUCH, I recently had to get new tires & the "mechanic" didn't knw hw to remove my spare...he had me thking I had lost a special key & I hvnt...it was he jus didn't knw what to dang do....I will NOT be returning lol again 1 million thx 😁
Thanks! The only reason I didn't include the other full size GM vehicles of these years is because the area when the tools and jack are located are a little different
I thought the "hoist lock" was standard but maybe it was an option in 2001. Also, if you have not had the vehicle since it was new the lock may have been just removed and not re-installed - that's fairly common. You can find replacement hoist lock cylinders online - they are not VIN specific. The replacement will just not be keyed the same as your ignition key.
I would try spraying a good amount of penetrating oil such as WD-40 all over the mechanism that lowers the tire and let the oil soak in for a bit then try to crank it. They do often rust and sometimes the tire needs to be cut down and the cable and mechanism need to be replaced.
Is it necessary to put the lock back into the bumper? Can't you just leave it out so if it happens again you could just stick the tool through without having to unlock it?
I just threw the key 🔑 lock away.. dirt broke it but who would take a spare tires lol 😆 but yeah ended spraying the whole line eventually I'll replace it soon being 21 yrs old.. I lightly lubricate the wires and inner part not heavily but just enough maybe once a year do this I went from 16" to 17" so I swapped the tires underneath with newer tire I bought a small stabilizer block so the bottle jack isn't so far from ground anything to help me or the next person that owns this yukon I got.
Help!! I cant get the key to turn!! Its a 2000 tahoe and pretty sure its never been unlocked. Ive tried wiggling it, twisting it and the damn keylock wont turn. I cant get my spare!! Advice?
If you have access to an air compressor I would try to blow some air in the lock to dislodge any dirt, then get some WD40 and spray in the lock - spray a good amount in there - then try to wiggle the lock with the key.
One thing I would like to add is that if you have to take the vehicle to the tire shops don't retract that spare tire cable all the way up if there is no tire on it or the tire guy will be pissed! 😂
My lever won't catch anything inside the slot. I've tried to push it in many times too try and catch a bolt or something but I can't. The tire doesnt lower at all. Help please anyone?
I ended up cutting the wire. I unlocked the mechanism but the bolt used to turn the winch was rusted and my truck wrench isnt strong so it just got stripped every time. Thank you for the help though it actually worked, just not my winch 🤣

Damn was it still any good?
I have had my 2001 Chevy Tahoe for about 7 months (no flats yet), and this is the very first instruction video I've watched on how to lower the spare. Thank you very much!
You're welcome! Hopefully you wont need it again soon
It's also a good idea to store a small tarp above the jack equipment to help keep ya cleaner and dryer.
Your video was help!!

Good Tip

It's helping today in 2023 too on Friday the 13th ☺️....

should do these EVERY six months as maintenance. Otherwise the release mechanism will rust a freeze and this process is in a different video.

You are welcome!
thank you for this video Ive been wondering how to get this done on my 2002 escalade.
You're welcome!
Super helpful. Saved me some typical mechanic type frustration.
Glad it helped!
If my Tahoe 03 doesn’t have that key cylinder thing , but I want to buy one where could I buy one ? Or search up to look online ?
Excellent video man, 'preciate it !
Thank You!
Well done. Consider adding other vehicles to your list. Same set up as my 2006 Chev Avalanche.
Thanks! The only reason I didn't include the other full size GM vehicles of these years is because the area when the tools and jack are located are a little different
Thank you and Merry Christmas
You're Welcome! Happy New Year!
Hello, the video was very good, I had no idea how to lower the tire, thank you very much for the information, regards
Glad it helped
I have a 2000 Chevy suburban, will a 285/75r16 fit where the stock spare went.. my buddy thinks I can't fit bigger then a 265.
I’m not sure what the max tire size it will accolade is
This is the same for my 2003 Silverado
Mine is missing the lock cylinder but I really dont think anyone will steal my bald spare
Hold up. My 2001 does not have a locking cylinder. What gives? Do I need to order one or is it supposed to have VIN specific?
I thought the "hoist lock" was standard but maybe it was an option in 2001. Also, if you have not had the vehicle since it was new the lock may have been just removed and not re-installed - that's fairly common. Thank you. Best explanation for removal I have seen.
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
THANKS i have to change out my charcoal box and this tire needed to be removed to get to my problem
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Narrator: "If you haven't had this out in a while..."
Me: "I've owned my Suburban 14 years and never knew that was there"
Mine only goes halfway down? Should I crank hard more ,rusted?? 10 years now and never knew, thanks aaa🤷♂️
You can leave it out if you want
It was an option to keep the new spare like I have from being stolen.
So you're telling me I need a degree from Nasa to change the tire on my 2002 Suburban 🥴🤦🏽♂️
thank you for the video. also, you look a lot like the sports writer Jon Bois.
You're Welcome! lol never heard that before
Thanks very direct and informative
You’re Welcome!
Where is the video for vehicles in Wisconsin?
"Short sweet and to the point".👍👍
I just threw the key 🔑 lock away.. dirt broke it but who would take a spare tires lol 😆 but yeah ended spraying the whole line eventually I'll replace it soon being 21 yrs old.. What can you use if you don't have the tool for the lowering tool
I'm really not sure what else you could use that would be the correct shape and size.
Sure help me i thought mine was strip out could not get tire to drop down..saved me breaking somthing
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Nice job, thanks :)
You're Welcome!
One thing I would like to add is that if you have to take the vehicle to the tire shops don't retract that spare tire cable all the way up if there is no tire on it or the tire guy will be pissed! 😂
My Chevy 2008 suburban works the same, however down 4 inches it gets stuck. Leaving me no room to unhook it.
sometimes the mechanism can get rusted shut - if its bad enough sometime the spare tire will need to be cut down
Exactly what happened to me. Horrible design, engineers got too cute with this
Giving thanks family
Appreciate it!
@@PYR-Auto I appreciate you
Thank you!!!
My lever won't catch anything inside the slot. I've tried to push it in many times too try and catch a bolt or something but I can't. The tire doesnt lower at all. Help please anyone?
Well now I feel something but it's refusing to turn with my lever
sometimes the mechanisms can rust and make it difficult or impossible to turn
I ended up cutting the wire. I unlocked the mechanism but the bolt used to turn the winch was rusted and my truck wrench isnt strong so it just got stripped every time. Thank you for the help though it actually worked, just not my winch 🤣
Thank you 👍
You're Welcome!
Awesome thanks 😅
You're Welcome!
My rods won't even go through the hole to lower the tire. What the heck?????
i dont have a z71 , my 2002 tahoe does not look like that on the inside
That’s because this video is for the suburban
Much appreciated
Glad it helped!
Hola tengo una Chevrolet Suburban 2001 1500 alguien me puede ayudar cómo quitar el vidrio del son roof
I don’t see a button on my truck
Kool thanks 🙏
You're Welcome!
i think you should edit the title bcuss this doesn't fit my 2002 chevy tahoe
This video is for the suburban as the title correctly states
why wouldn’t my tool grab the tire bolt to lower it down?
Not sure - something may broken in the mechanism
I'm having the same problem. Please tell me that isn't so.
Now how do I put it back in there?😂
pay big money for the chev or g m c and pay good money and that is the biggest bunch of crap they give you to change a tire also can get you hurt
💯
❤❤❤❤❤❤
