  • In this episode we take and old pitted, ugly concrete patio and make it new again. Using tools we already have and $13 we are able to greatly increase the value of our home. 1 day and a little sweat it’s something nearly anyone can do when you have this knowledge.

    Just the video I have been looking for! Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge. Also, using the broom is an excellent idea. It prevents people and animals from slipping on the cement when it's wet, which it will be because of the pool. Well done!

    The broom surface next to the pool is EXNT. Let's wait until spring to see the long term color.

    Thank you for the video! Looking for ideas to resurface our exposed aggregate concrete floor.

    Would it be better to mix the water and cement first, then apply it? Seems like you’d get a mixed ratio otherwise. Cool to see the improvement, anyway!

      It probably would be. I find it hard to judge how much I’m going to need and try to avoid time on my bad knees with a trowel. If you make plenty and plan for some waste and a long day, you’re results would likely be better! Thank you for the great comment and suggestion!

    How has this held up after 2.5 years? We are needing to resurface our patio and have been debating how we want to go about it.

      Overall I would say very well. Considering the cost was about $10 I would say great! The big crack in the middle did crack again as expected, but all the pieces stayed in place and it is still a huge improvement. I wish I was able to share a photo, pictures say a thousand words. Thank you for the question.

      @@maxspeedadventures Thanks for the response! I think we are going to give this a shot and worst-case, we won't be out much! 🙂

      Good luck and just to emphasize once more, the cleaner you get it prior the better it will stick.

    So we mix the portland with sand? Looked like in the video he just put portland on it and added water just wanted to make sure i do it right

      No sand, just Portland mixed with water. I rewatched and understand why it was confusing when I was describing how concrete in made with rock, sand, and Portland. In this case you just need Portland. Getting it clean is the key. Good luck, let me know how it goes!

    The nature of cement is to discolor if it dries at different times (the thicker spots vs the thinner spots). It's the efflorescence.

      If you paint a thin layer of Portland on top it would blend in

    Yeah I don't like the darker spot either. You probably should have had a professional do it

    No bonding agent?
    I need to redo my cement porch

      Correct, No bonding agent. I’ve done several spots like this and straight Portland with water is all I use. Starting with a clean surface is very important. Also, if you get it too wet it will crumble down the road. It’s a very inexpensive way to bring new life to old concrete, just keep in mind it is going to look better, NOT brand new.

    Did you just spread dry concrete and wet it after?

    • @maxspeedadventures
      @maxspeedadventures  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve tried it different ways. I think mixing is the best method to help give it an even consistency. Spreading dry worked, but I needed more water in the thicker spots and it was hard to get right. Concrete is basically a mix of rock, sand, and Portland. The rock and sand settle and it leaves a smooth top coat of Portland. I simple add more Portland over my existing concrete for a new appearance. It’s super easy, you can do it. Good luck!

    Would this work in a garage that has cars driving on it?

    • @maxspeedadventures
      @maxspeedadventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would, the thicker you get it the better it holds up. Keep in mind it has to be really clean, so if there are engine fluids they need to be removed first. Good luck!

    Am I the only guy who thinks it looked better before? Not saying it looked great, but the worn aggregate was better than that “city sidewalk” look.

      Interesting perspective, thanks for sharing. I do appreciate old things, but in this case I think I like the new look better.
