The Terminator is a 1984 American science fiction action thriller film directed by James Cameron. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, a cyborg assassin sent back in time from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), whose unborn son will one day save mankind from extinction by a hostile artificial intelligence in a post-apocalyptic future. Michael Biehn plays Kyle Reese, a soldier sent back in time to protect Sarah. The screenplay is credited to Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd, while co-writer William Wisher Jr. received a credit for additional dialogue.
Cameron devised the premise of the film from a fever dream he experienced during the release of his first film, Piranha II: The Spawning (1982), in Rome, and developed the concept in collaboration with Wisher. He sold the rights to the project to fellow New World Pictures alumna Hurd on the condition that she would produce the film only if he were to direct it; Hurd eventually secured a distribution deal with Orion Pictures, while executive producers John Daly and Derek Gibson of Hemdale Film Corporation were instrumental in setting up the film's financing and production. Originally approached by Orion for the role of Reese, Schwarzenegger agreed to play the title character after befriending Cameron. Filming, which took place mostly at night on location in Los Angeles, was delayed because of Schwarzenegger's commitments to Conan the Destroyer (1984), during which Cameron found time to work on the scripts for Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) and Aliens (1986). The film's special effects, which included miniatures and stop-motion animation, were created by a team of artists led by Stan Winston and Gene Warren Jr.
Defying low pre-release expectations, The Terminator topped the United States box office for two weeks, eventually grossing $78.3 million against a modest $6.4 million budget. It is credited with launching Cameron's film career and solidifying Schwarzenegger's status as a leading man. The film's success led to a franchise consisting of several sequels, a television series, comic books, novels and video games. In 2008, The Terminator was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

I was in the minority that loved Terminator Salvation. They could have used it too save the terrible T3. Or even follow on from T2.😎
Terminator salvation was a good movie and they should have built on that.
My biggest issue with Salvation was the fact that they took John Conners role in the resistance and reduced it to pretty much nothing.
Like John is the resistance, he is the reason for it and they made him a standard grunt in it
They couldn't just make him a General right off the bat. There had to be other military leaders still alive. Just because John had a history with those machines and knew something of how they worked and where they're from, that wouldn't have been enough of a reason to make him a global military commander at 18 years old, especially with people still around who were real military trained soldiers. Conner would have had to earn his place in the fight just like anyone else. He was an important asset, but no one would've bought his story about him being the leader to win the war. That would have had to play itself out to conclusion despite the losses and gains along the way. So Im glad they showed Conner as a leader to some, but still answerable to a military hierarchy that still existed and where he hadn't climbed all the way to the top yet. That could have been something we would've seen in later sequels if they didn't drop the Salvation storyline.
@@jlomesou but you're missing the point of what I said. He is the whole reason for the resistance. He created it, he organized it when he was an adult. That's the whole reason why Skynet was hell bent on killing him. It killed him, no resistance and Skynet wins.
So again, that was one of the things that disappointed me about Salvation.
That and I feel like they reduced the threat of the T800 just so John Conner wouldn't die to it at the end.

@@Fee-Nix tis true. Like if they took the time to build up some story of like;
Conner started it but as time went by some older ex-military jerks felt they could do better and forced their way into command and demoted John. That would have helped it work.

I liked Genesis more so for certain fights sequences the old arnold vs original Arnold. The return of T1000... John Conner T3000..But not so much storyline

I liked it because it was different enough yet still respected the source material .
Because it didn’t have Arnold in it that why. It didn’t need Arnold. I would have like to seen a follow up movie but that’s been scrapped. It’s all subjective and political
The only thing I didn’t like about Salvation is that McG didn’t adequately flesh out Sam Worthington’s character; he should have included the scene that got the character on death row. Instead, Worthington spends the whole movie saying that he’s not a good guy, when all he does in the movie helps others. It would have added far more depth to his character if we saw how truly bad he was in order to provide more meaning to his penance in the future. The rest of the movie was good, but that one small omission is what failed to make it great.
@@jscatlin exactly! We need the full story! Leaves holes in the story. Knowing how bad he was, maybe would’ve changed our viewpoint on whether or not he was cursed with his predicament.
If James Cameron wants to do a "Terminator 7", fine, but DON'T be just some lame PRODUCER. He needs to do what he did in T1 and T2 --- DIRECT IT.
If there is a Terminator new movie, it would make a lot of sense to reboot the franchise. I mean completely, new cast , new director and new story. Give new fresh life .Remember Halloween 2018 that movie brought new life to the franchise . The terminator needs a new direction, outside the box type of story. If done right , it can be revived. No Arnold, no, Linda. They should start with the origin story of the Kyle Reese or John Connor. Just have the movie focus of those 2 important characters to start with . I would board for that type of reboot.

I honestly think that bringing in the original director is an insult. He wanted it to end with T2. His original ending was a conclusion to the terminator movies.
It needs to be a continuation otherwise you screw up the whole Terminator franchise.
I feel like it has run its course. Personally I’d rather see another sequel to RED, and Zombieland. Oh, and Peppermint. They left that wide opened.

First 3 movies were correct, and the rest 3 movies were messed-up by storylines, I would prefer for complete REBOOT

I believe that they should continue from salvation. I know it's not the best one but I believe that it needs to continue from the perspective from the future war. I hate Genesis & Darkfate they ruined the franchise.

Will someone please terminate this franchise. It has not had a good script since T2. This franchise is the poster-child for a hellywood without originality.
What I ain't go lie I love all them they all had they unique thing about them. Now I will say some scenes was redone from before films but they all was great to me (some better then others) . They all had potential to keep the story going. To this point cause once Arnold and Linda gone from them them I might leave it alone but for what it's worth they all was good to me.
We still need some soap to watch :)
Sarah corner predicted world will be wiped out on judgement day in AD 2029. but terminators has be destroyed all the way. The story ended. does not make any sense to continue.
Terminators 1, 2, and 6 were great, especially 1 and 2. Terminators 3, 4, and 5 were crap. Why were 1, 2, and 6 great? With 1, 2, and 6, almost the whole movie is an incredible chase and action scene, and a relentless terminator drives the chase and action. Why the writers/directors of 3,4, and 5 did not follow that example and instead produced crap, is hard to say. But it sounds like terminator 7 may again try to fix what ain't broke and end up producing more crap, instead of further developing what made 1, 2, and 6 unusually fun films.
Dark fate failed because the leading characters sucked. Even with Arnold and Linda Hamilton as supporting characters, it was terrible.
Drawing from the best of Genysis and Dark Fate. Dude both of those movies where garbage. There is no best to draw from
