The goal from Disney is not to simply destroy a popular hero... the goal is first to cash in on nostalgia, then pervert them into something horrific, then finally to replace them with someone we won't care about at the end of the movie. Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, Tolkien... same pattern. Cash-in, pervert, replace.

    • @bernieschiff5919

The problem Disney has is the Indy character is identified by the audience with Ford, he can't be changed out like a James Bond. Corporate Disney also has a big investment with Ford as this character in their parks, rides, and merchandising. The series ends, but the hero has to live on in the imagination of the audience, and park goers, in some form, hence the time travel leading to an ending where the character lives on in the past. I hope they make the creative effort with this movie, and it not just be a cash grab.

He reminisces what went down while pursuing the nazis, back in the present he discovers that the ex-nazis are in Argentina. With help from Ssaleh and a smart, tough and sultry tango dancer he goes after it. Throw in some horses, guachos, and nazis with the Patagonian desert, Buenos Aires and the Andes mountains as a back drop you have the basics for a final Indy chapter. Did I leave anything out?

My take on this, without any flashbacks, the movie apparently starts in WW2 with Jones pursuing a Nazi gold train and in so doing uncovers a plot by German scientists to harness the powers of an ancient clockwork device. Possession of this will change hands and drive the story. Fast forward to 1969, where the de-aging will stop. A time travel sequence using a German bomber near the end will allow Jones to live on in the past, and Disney to end the series without killing off the main character. I put this together from watching the videos of the live action shooting last summer, that seemed to follow a sequence of shooting the first scenes first. It's better for the actors this way also. I agree, most of the action will not be from Ford but from stunt doubles, will the audience buy in with the CGI?

However, if I were to write a story for a "finale" Indy movie it would be more of Indy and Salah mentoring a young person or persons as they try to solve a odd, even mystical mystery. Let the young ones do the action stuff and showcase Indy and Salah's experience and wisdom.( Henry Sr. let his son do the physical stuff but he was still important.) You could even throw in Karen Allen. No body condensing to or trying to show up anyone. Just kind of a " you did good kids, you learned all we could teach you. Now go out and have adventures. We are going to take a well earned nap" ending. With a actual good writer and director and of course charismatic young actors, you could have a whole new IP to work with. Here is my issue. Prior to the film's trailer I had been keeping up with set photos and footage and was concerned because 80% of it was done by a stunt/bodh double(since Harrison was injured for a few months) but also because if you're going to make a film about a 70 year old action hero being played by a 78 year old(during filming in 2020) then the actions needs to be believable. Sean Connery for example in last crusade had believable scenes for a man of his age at that time. This film has indy riding on horses, running in a crowd, jumping from car to car, falling, fighting etc to the point where it's just absurd. We really have to sit there and believe the henchmen who are all under 30 and in very great shape can't best grandpa jones? Especially given the cgi head, the obvious stunt doubles idk it takes me out. Plus the fact there is no marion or mutt in the trailer really bothers me. Gripes aside the inner child in me was still pretty excited during the first viewing but the adult quickly noticed everything I pointed out. Given Disney's track record with established franchises I'm cautiously optimistic. James Mangold directed amazing films like 3:10 to Yuma, Ford v Ferrari and Logan so I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt. I just hope this is a story worth telling and not another cash grab

Have Indy as more of a scholar using his mind to beat the threat while the assistant is doing more of the action scenes. And it’s not as if sequels can never be made successfully, Top Gun: Maverick was excellent. But the soulless (and inferior) remakes, the ruination of many once successful brands, the 'SLACKluster' of their recent animation styles, and most importantly: the way they've let their employees and talent just outright badmouth and slander their customers has led me to boycott anything Disney. For some reason Hollywood thinks sequels everytime need to go bigger and more extravagant for the next one - "aliens, how do we top that?" ... "how about time travel?" "BRILLIANT!". An Indiana Jones movie that sticks to the basics of the three first films would be great.

In Crystal Skull, the FBI guys read an account of Indy's WWII service, and from that point on I wished they'd shown that story rather than the one they did. He belongs in that era, back when good and evil seemed very clear-cut, and I think being there was part of Indy's appeal. Don't see how digitally de-aging Ford the entire movie through would cost "the Earth" compared to all the other costs on a major film. The end result might look a bit cartoony is all. But then so did Crystal Skull! Heck, shoot the thing in black & white if that covers the problem.

    My Favorite Indiana Jones Characters
    1. Henry "Indiana" Jones Jr.
    2. Henry Jones Sr.
    3. Short Round
    4. Marcus Brody
    5. Sallah
    6. Marion Ravenwood
    7. Mutt Williams (Henry Jones III)
    8. Harold Oxley
    9. Willie Scott (still the most annoying)
    10. Irina Spalko
    Honorable mention
    Grail Knight (he chose poorly)
Alison Doody (Elsa Schneider) is 56 and she's still very pretty after 33 years.
Henry Walton Jones Jr. was born on July 1, 1899 in Princeton, New Jersey. When The Last Crusade opens, younger Indiana (River Phoenix) is supposed to be about 13 as it starts in 1912 in Utah.
Temple of Doom is a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark set in 1935.
Raiders of the Lost Ark was set in 1936.
Last Crusade was set in 1938.
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was set in 1957.
I believe Dial of Destiny is set in 1969 with flashbacks (or is this time travel?) to 1944.
The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles that starred Sean Patrick Flannery had most of it set from 1916-1920 or at the time World War I (The Great War) broke out.
George Lucas had an Alaskan malamute named Indiana who inspired Chewbacca, Wookiees, and the nickname for Henry Jones Jr. At the end of the Last Crusade, Henry Sr. mentions their dog was named Indiana, a reference to George's dog.
Without George Lucas, I just don't see Dial of Destiny really working. I don't care if Spielberg is an executive producer, Star Wars and Indiana Jones are still George's babies. He's the author to all this. "He should've mailed it to the Marx Brothers."
    Steven Spielberg: Better director
    George Lucas: Better storyteller

I actually prefer the Indiana Jones franchise more than Star Wars although SW has more interesting characters and lore. I didn't get into SW until 1997 when the SEs came out. The two franchises that raised me were Back To The Future and Indiana Jones.
This might come as a shock but I actually like Raiders the least. I don't hate it but I rarely seen it since they never showed it on cable like Temple did. And Temple is regarded the worst of the OG 80s trilogy before Crystal came out. I prefer Crystal over Raiders.
My fav is Crusade but Tarantino thinks that's the boring one and prefers Temple. So we all have an interesting take on these movies. I just didn't think Karen Allen was a good actress in Raiders like she was in Crystal where she was witty and sweeter.
With all that said, I generally liked them all and I should expect to enjoy this. There's really no bad Indy movie to me even if Crystal gets mocked the most followed by Temple. I've had The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles for years and never gotten around watching it. I might do so before Indy 5 is released.
First Indy I ever saw was Temple of Doom on TV circa 1987 or 1988? And the first Indy I saw in the theater was Last Crusade back in 1989, same summer as Batman. I saw Indy before any Back To The Future film. So those two top my fav list due to nostalgia and replay value. Raiders of the Lost Ark never felt epic in scope to me.
    My Favorites
    1. Last Crusade (1989)
    2. Temple of Doom (1984)
    3. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
    4. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Spielberg's personal favorite is Last Crusade. Temple was his least fav because he thought it was too dark (created PG-13) and George Lucas was going through a divorce. Steven did meet his future wife, Kate Capshaw, in it though. But they wouldn't marry until 1991.
I hope we see a cameo from Short Round in this. Ke is killing it lately with his return to Hollywood. If Short Round was about 12 in 1935 when Temple was set, then Ke is age appropriate if this is set in 1969 as Ke is already 51. "He no nut. He crazy."
My Top 10 Fav Characters From TV Or Film
    1. Iron Man
    2. Darth Vader
    3. Batman
    4. Yoda
    *5.* *Indiana* *Jones*
    6. Han Solo
    7. Daemon Targaryen
    8. Al Bundy
    9. The Joker
    10. Loki
Once I get my Regal Unlimited back next May when weather gets hot to use for about 5 months, I'll probably watch Indy 5 at least 6 times in the theater. All the Indy films are highly rewatchable like the Back To The Future films.
We need to be honest with ourselves right now, Disney hasn't really been killing it with Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm this year. We need to have our expectations all in check for Guardians 3, Indy 5, and Quantummania.
Heck, I'm not even hyped for that Mario movie because Mario has never really had an interesting personality like Sonic has. Mario says words like yahoo, yippee, okie-dokie, or it's Mario time. Gee, what a deep character he is. Sonic is at least a wisecracker like Bugs Bunny. And I'm no Mario or Nintendo hater as I'm currently addicted playing Super Mario 3D World.
I hear Phoebe (Marcus Brody's daughter) is going to be like Reva was to Obi-Wan. That's bad news. And we all had the same questions nearly 15 years ago when Harrison was 65 when he did Indy 4 and he was older than Connery when they did Indy 3.
Remember Jurassic World: Dominion when they brought back Sam, Laura, and Jeff? How about Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love And Thunder? How about Obi-Wan Kenobi? We had expectations for them and they all disappointed.
Disney just wants to tickle with your nostalgia funny bone. Pull your heart strings. I watched Disenchanted recently and it's TERRIBLE. Enchanted from 2007 was charming. Disenchanted is a complete mess!
This is still DISNEY. We saw what they did to Star Wars and they admitted they ruined it. And with Bob Iger back, I hear he wants to continue with the WOKE propaganda. Once you go WOKE, you go broke. Turning beloved characters into minorities or gay.
I don't expect Dial of Destiny to be great. Maybe it can surprise me like what Cobra Kai, Top Gun: Maverick, and Wednesday did but I'm leaning towards it being closer to Dominion quality than Top Gun 2. But hopefully, at least better than Indy 4 which had aliens and giant ants.
I just don't see Indy 5 ever reaching the Indy films released during the 80s. That 80s trilogy is on par to the OG SW trilogy. The newer ones will never reach that level because the old ones were so good with practical effects with Lucas writing and Spielberg directing.
Even with bad reviews like Crystal got, it doesn't mean we still can't enjoy it. Bad movies can still be enjoyable. I enjoyed Hot Tub Time Machine, Wild Hogs, and Troy. It's Harrison's last Indiana Jones film, so we might as well try to enjoy it even if it likely falls below the 80s ones without the dynamic duo of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.
